Town boss Paul Jewell says he will field his strongest possible team in tonight’s season-opening Capital One Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers at Portman Road (KO 7.45pm). The Blues manager’s options are somewhat limited by international calls and a couple of injuries, while he admits his squad is three players short.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has admitted that he’s had a thoroughly frustrating time in the transfer market this summer. Despite adding four players to his squad and having another bid provisionally accepted by a Premier League club, the Town manager says “everything that could have gone wrong in the transfer market has gone wrong” as he has sought to strengthen ahead of a 2012/13 season which starts with tonight’s Capital One Cup tie at home to Bristol Rovers (KO 7.45pm).

Damien Delaney is with Ireland for their friendly in Serbia on Wednesday, Ronan Murray with the Irish U21s for their European Championships qualifier against Turkey in Sligo on Tuesday and Josh Carson has been promoted to the Northern Ireland full squad from the U21s for their friendly against Finland in Belfast, also on Wednesday.
