Town and Newcastle Launch Robson Friendship Scarf Wed 16th Sep 2009 15:31
Town and Newcastle United have released a friendship scarf in tribute to Sir Bobby Robson to raise funds for the legendary manager’s charity ahead of the sides meeting in the Championship at Portman Road on September 26th. The club will rename the North Stand the Sir Bobby Robson Stand at the game which his widow Lady Elsie is expected to attend.

Prematurely-retired Town keeper Shane Supple is targeting reaching the very top in Gaelic football, having returned to Ireland’s native game since his move back to Dublin last month. Supple, who is with his local club St Brigid’s in the Irish capital at present, admits that playing at the top level is tempting.

Town and Sheffield United are locked in a battle to sign Bolton Wanderers central defender Danny Shittu, according to reports in Lancashire this morning. Both clubs are said to want to take Shittu on loan by the end of the week, while two other Championship sides are also believed to have shown interest in the 29-year-old.

Town’s winless start to the league season continued as Nottingham Forest left Portman Road with a point after a 1-1 draw. The Blues took the lead in the opening minute via Grant Leadbitter, one of three home debutants, but Forest sub Robert Earnshaw hit back in the second half immediately after coming on, while Gareth McAuley was red-carded close to the end for a professional foul.

Warner Duff, Town’s disability liaison officer, is on the shortlist in the Feelgood Factor category at the Pride of Britain Awards. Earlier this year, Warner carried off the EA Sports Fan of the Year at the 2009 Football League Awards and was named Club Employee/Volunteer for 2009 by the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS).
