Blades Linked With Shittu
Blades Linked With Shittu
Tuesday, 15th Sep 2009 10:45

Town target Danny Shittu is being linked with a loan move to Sheffield United. The 29-year-old, mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues yesterday, is out of favour at Bolton and appears certain to leave the Reebok Stadium.

The Blades are said to be close to signing the man mountain defender on a loan deal with a view to ÂŁ1.5 million permanent move. Newcastle United are also said to have shown interest.

Town boss Roy Keane refused to be drawn on the speculation linking Shittu with the Blues.

ITFC do us a big favour as well as all the local press - any rumours of transfers keep them quite don't be selfish to sell papers etc. I am fed up of major players coming to PR and another club see it and takes them from us. Press hope you are are satisfied. All last season, every player we went for a certain bunch of budgies were linked with them.

Sadly Sheff Utd is a far more attractive proposition for a player at the moment! I have them as near-certs for promotion this year ... boo.

And especially as Shittu is already northern-based (Bolton to Sheffield isn't THAT far). Pity if we miss out though, as he is a decent defender at this level.

Maybe not such bad news. Read Bolton's own review of their reserve game last night:

Bolton`s Danny Shittu was sent off in a reserve game against Blackburn Rovers last night after conceding a last minute penalty. Shittu has been linked with numerous clubs including Chartlon, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Newcastle United, and is set to sign for Sheffield United on loan if Alan 'Porky` Nixon of the Daily Mirror is to be believed.

The Nigerian`s new employers should be aware of his clumsiness. Whilst playing for Watford in the 2006-7 season, Shittu upended Idan Tal in the penalty area, when he was no threat on goal, and Gary Speed converted the resulting spot kick to give Bolton an entirely undeserved victory. It seems that old habits die hard.

The big man`s blushes were spared last night as Ali Al-Habsi saved from Brett Emerton to give the Wanderers a 2-1 victory, thanks to goals from Danny Ward and Javlon Campbell.

Still sounds better than McAwful though. Always plays well against us too.

We shud have got Shackell from Wolves before he went to Donny on loan. Forget about the budgie links, he'd be an ideal signing for us..

NorseBlue, whilst no team likes to concede pens, they are a part of the game,as many wrongly awarded are [until technology intervenes].Defenders are going to give away [or be deemed to have ]penalties ,or they are going to shy away ! i wouldnt be put off by that report .

Still think that Keane's original target - Richard Wood from Sheff Wed - would be a lot, lot better. Four years younger than Shittu, bags of experience, same height, another big lad & scores goals. We won't lose Wood for 6 weeks to the African Nations Cup come the New Year and his wages would be far more affordable.

Do hope Keane's still negotiating about Wood - he'll be here after the Sheffield derby match on Friday if he's going to come.

dirty..magee - penalties are one thing. Getting sent off regularly and being slow & clumsy in the tackle are three others. I didn't write the report by the way! Just thought I'd share a Bolton view with you...

apparently it was just a knock against Forest, and Laws is hopeful he'll be back against Boro (tonight?).
