Town manager Joe Royle has ruled out signing former loan player Alan Mahon from Wigan due to the cost. Mahon, currently out of favour with the Latics, is again being linked with the Blues.

Former loan star Alan Mahon is again being linked with a return to Portman Road. Mahon had a successful spell with the Blues last autumn while a Blackburn player but was eventually sold to Wigan with the Blues unable to match the fee paid by the Latics.

Town striker Darren Bent scored his by now obligatory late goal as the England U21s beat Austria 2-0 in Krems. Bent netted in the 89th minute after coming on as a sub for Blackburn's Jon Stead.

Town keeper Lewis Price kept a clean sheet as the Wales U21s beat Azerbaijan 1-0 in Baku. Price won his second cap and is yet to concede a goal in his short international career.
