Academy striker Darryl Knights and the England U17 side lost 1-0 to Portugal at a tournament in the Algarve yesterday evening. The Town man, who made his senior debut in the game at Sunderland in November, played the full 90 minutes.

Town manager Joe Royle has revealed that he first tried to bring new signing David Unsworth to Portman Road last summer, however at the time there was not the cash to finance the deal. Unsworth will sign on loan next week ahead of the Sheffield United match.

The Blues and Colchester United have agreed to play a benefit match for former Town youth coach Brian Owen during 2005/06 pre-season. Owen, who was at Portman Road in the Bobby Robson era, is a former U's physio and is currently a coach at Layer Road.

Winger Jaime Peters, set to sign formally with the Blues in May, put in a Man of the Match display as Canada's U20 side beat Mexico 2-1 in Honduras. The game was Canada's opening match in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the FIFA World Youth Championships in Holland this summer.

Town legend Mauricio Taricco has announced his retirement from English football and has moved home to Argentina. The full-back left Spurs earlier in the season and had a short spell with West Ham before deciding that it was time to return to his homeland.
