Town's current standing at the top of the Fair Play League may lead to an early start to 2000/01. Should Town win the Fair Play League they will be invited to enter the Intertoto Cup which can begin as early as June. Last year Bradford and Aston Villa entered the trophy which can lead to UEFA Cup entry. So far Town have received just eight bookings this season with John McGreal the greatest individual transgressor with just two bookings. There have been no players sent off so far this year.

Midfielder Jim Magilton has been given the all-clear to go on playing after an X-ray on his recurrent ankle injury. The X-ray's results showed no damage to the bone and therefore that the injury is none too serious. Magilton should now be able to take his place in the side which meets Charlton at Portman Road on Saturday.

Town have announced that the new sponsor of the marquee sited by the newly laid practice pitch. Comms company Alcatel will sponsor this facility for the rest of the season.

Sean Friars may be on his way back to his native Northern Ireland for a loan spell with Derry City. Their manager Kevin Mahon is negotiating with Town to try to bring Friars to his hometown club. Last season Friars spent an abortive spell with Derry club when he spent the whole time injured. The Derry manager is also looking to bring in Perry Taylor from Tranmere.

Town midfield maestro Jim Magilton is to face an X-ray on his recurrent ankle injury. However, Town manager George Burley is hopeful that the Northern Ireland international will be fit to face Charlton on Saturday: "Jim got a knock on his ankle in our last home game against Middlesbrough and it has been a bit sore. He will have an x-ray to make sure their is no serious damage. After four or five days he should be OK to play at the weekend."

Town have announced that the Worthington Cup match with Coventry will be on Tuesday 27th November, kick off 7.45pm. Town are reducing the cost of children's tickets to "recognise the importance of young fans" for the game with Gordon Strachan's side. Kids' ticket prices will be reduced to £3.00 for the night, however, normal adult prices will apply for the game. Tickets go on sale from today and season ticket holders have until Tuesday 14th November to purchase their seats.

Some sources are continuing to link Stuart Baxter with the Town European Scout's job. Baxter has reportedly resigned from his job at AIK Stockholm, but according to our sources is not on his way to Portman Road. With Simon Hunt joining Romeo Zondervan what Scandinavian scouting role would there be for Baxter?

Falkirk midfielder Mark Kerr was once again linked to Town in this weekend's papers. The 18-year-old has been rumoured to be a Town target since the beginning of the season, but so far the story seems to be merely press speculation.

Town centre-half Hermann Hreidarsson has been called up for the Iceland squad their friendly against Poland on 15th November. He joins Matt Holland who was called up by Ireland last week.
