Reuser to Reach Mauricio Status Fri 23rd Jun 2000 14:59 New Town signing Martijn Reuser has spoken of his delight at his transfer to Town finally going through. And he has endeared himself to supporters all the more by speaking of his feelings for the club: "Three months ago coming to Ipswich was an adventure — it is very good to be back again. I’m very, very pleased to have signed a contract and let’s hope we have a great season — as good as the final months were for me of last season. I am really looking forward to playing in the Premiership with Ipswich. We have a good group of players and I think we can do well. Ipswich is a nice place with a great group of players who I think can survive in the Premiership. I didn't speak to any other clubs as I'd made up my mind to come here." What a star! |
Three Year Contract for Reuser Fri 23rd Jun 2000 14:36 Martijn Reuser has signed a three year deal with Town. Manager George Burley said at this morning's press conference: "I’m thrilled we have finally agreed everything with Martijn and he has signed a three year contract. Martijn did superbly well during his loan period at the Club and I’m sure he will be a tremendous acquisition to our squad for the forthcoming season in the Premiership." He was not alone in his praise for Reuser, chairman David Sheepshanks added: "We are in the enviable position of knowing exactly who we have signed and what we are getting following Martijn’s three months playing with the first team squad at the end of last season. He is a popular lad who has already become a big favourite with the fans. On a personal note, I am absolutely delighted Martijn is joining us and wish him the very best of luck, good form and many goals over the coming years at Ipswich Town Football Club." |
That Was The Week This Was Thu 01st Jun 2000 14:39 What a week, eh? One that no Town fan will ever forget. Has it sunk in yet? We are Premier League, we are Premier League. |

Town 5-3 Bolton Thu 18th May 2000 18:16 Town eventually ran out winners of a stupendous play-off semi-final second leg at Portman Road last night in a game that saw Bolton reduced to nine men, have ten booked and concede three penalties. A hat-trick from Jim Magilton, a penalty from Jamie Clapham and a fifth goal from Martijn Reuser saw Town to Wembley for the first time since the 1978 Charity Shield. |
2-0, But Play-Offs Again Sun 07th May 2000 20:26 Town easily defeated Walsall with two second half David Johnson goals, but fans returned home feeling less than ecstatic as Blackburn failed to beat Manchester City and catapult Town into the Premiership. Two play-offs with Bolton (yes Bolton again) await with the first away at the Reebok Stadium next Sunday afternoon. |
Stewart Declares Himself Fit Thu 04th May 2000 11:26 Town's record signing Marcus Stewart has declared himself fit for Sunday's more than slightly important game with Walsall. The serially injured striker says he can't wait for what he sees as the biggest game of his career. Stewart previously played for Bristol Rovers in a Wembley play-off final against the club he later joined Huddersfield, but sees Sunday's march as the bigger of the two. His dead-leg sustained on Saturday at the Valley is now OK and he is back in training. |
Injury Worries for Both Town and City Fri 28th Apr 2000 14:07 Ipswich and Manchester City both go into this weekend's vital First Division clashes with injury worries. Town are definitely missing John McGreal (ankle, not back before play-offs if required), Jonas Axeldal (knee, likely to be out for the season) and Mike Salmon (groin, needs an operation). Marcus Stewart is hoping to be back from his back spasm problem, Mark Venus will be looking for his ankle injury to improve and Manu Thetis could well be back from his back problem sustained on Tuesday against Crystal Palace. Richard Naylor is still feeling his tendinitis which will require surgery over the summer. |
Town 1-0 Palace Wed 26th Apr 2000 11:06 Town moved to two points behind Manchester City after a David Johnson stunner was enough to beat Crystal Palace. Town switched it about from Saturday with Manu Thetis coming into a three man backline, Martijn Reuser coming into midfield and with Jamie Clapham and Fabian Wilnis as the wide men. |
