Town's 2008/09 season got off to the worst possible start as Preston came from behind to beat the Blues 2-1. Kevin Lisbie put Town ahead in the second minute but goals from Paul McKenna and Simon Whaley won the points for the visitors.

Town's reserves continued their 100% start to their league season with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United at Playford Road. Gary Roberts put the Blues in front from the penalty spot in the first half and Jaime Peters wrapped it up three minutes from time.
