Town's hopes of retaining the FA Youth Cup won last May are over after the U18s lost 2-1 at Liverpool. The young Blues were unlucky to be defeated with Liverpool keeper Dave Roberts making a number of saves and Kieran Leabon having a late goal ruled out.

Danny Webber's goal 13 minutes from the end prevented the Blues from taking all three points against second-placed Sheffield United. Town had led an entertaining game through Jimmy Juan's 54th minute freekick.

New striker Alan Lee will make his Town debut on Saturday when the Blues take on Sheffield United at Portman Road. Despite the acquisition of the former Cardiff player for £100,000 earlier this week, the Blues remain short of fit strikers.

The Blues got back to winning ways with a 1-0 defeat of Luton Town. Sub Ian Westlake struck on 69 from Darren Currie's excellent 40-yard pass from halfway. Earlier, strike pair Dean Bowditch and Danny Haynes had both missed good chances to put the Blues in front.

Central defender Richard Naylor is no longer considered a doubt ahead of Saturday's game at Sheffield Wednesday after an x-ray revealed no broken bone in his hand. However, midfielder Gavin Williams has a dead leg which is likely to keep him out of training in the early part of the week.

Town's U16s defeated Arsenal 2-1 at the Gunners' Training Centre in Shenley. The U18s fared less well, losing 3-0 and ending the game with 10 men.
