McKenna: There Are Going to Be Quite a Lot of Late Calls
by Leejames99 at 23:36:33

@blues1
I still think my points are thought out as are yours, we all support the same club, I said midway through season that Mckenna had bought players with the Championship in mind and did the right thing getting the stadium, training ground etc Prem ready so when we go back up investment can be made on players.

It is for this reason I do not think Hutchinson, Delap or any of them have relegation clauses and especially not at 30 mill and if he is Man City will want him back which Delap doesn't have to do if hr doesn't want too and can stay at Town, it's the same as the Phillogene Villa situation.
30 million for a player tipped to be the next Harry Kane not going to happen I dont think and I don't think.Ashton or Man City would of done that deal. Nobody expected Delap to get the plaudits like this. I looked and all the same stories were out about Adebayo last Summer. I think Liams Dad will tell him to stay, what club is he going to start at, defo not the top teams, Halland, Solanke, Bowen, Cunnah, Mateta, Hoijlund, Wissa, Isak, Evanilson, Jackson,Trossard,Watkins, Jimianez,Pedro, Nunez, Beto?
I dont think he would bother going to a newly promoted team, Everton I don't think is a step up for him, I just really think he loves playing football and would rather play with his mates at Town right now only 22. If I was his agent Id be looking at Town to give him Prem wages still and remove the 30 mill release clause, in fact Ipswich could pay Delap 10 million sign on fee in new contract and change the release clause amount which i think they might, Delap is worth more to Man City and Ipswich by staying put. Even if he stayed until Christmas they could renegotiate.

If your 22 and offered to renegotiate with big sign on fee to play every week and possibly get a Championship winners medal or go and sit on bench at Chelsea and get 10 mins and cup games I think he would stay.
It's the same with Cajuste and Hutchinson rather than sell, renegotiate with who we have, if they renegotiate with Delap they could even give him 20 mill and put a release on of 60 mill for next season.
I would be happy for Mckenna to stay better the devil you know, I just think we need a reset now and see no point in keeping Burns, Chaplin etc for their sake and ours.
We have 3 windows to bolster the squad before a return to prem which if we kept all the new signings we would walk the Prem.

We don't need to be rude or use bad language towards anyone it's just opinions and im sure a bit of yours and a bit of mine will be where we end up.
I just think Mckenna has a golden opportunity to make Ipswich a really good team and playing together in the championship and getting a winning mentality can only be a good thing.
I think Delap will stay.
Id love Davis to stay but I just cant see why he can't convert to midfield behind Clarkeand in front of Townsend what a left hand side that would be.

Let's see what the Summer holds, midfield is crucial. I really would like fans give muric a chance his stats for Burnley in Championship were insane but I also get a feeling Slicker might be number 2 and will have quite an influence on Delap as will Sheeran. Think Palmer might go.
My ideal 11 come July
Muric
H Clarke
O'Shea
Greaves
Townsend
Cajuste
Humphries
Szmodics
Hutchinson
J Clarke
Delap
Humphries will either be great or not ready, still looks sleight to me, love Finn Azaz. Apparently Town were looking at Eric Dier.

Anyway all good let's just keep to footie chat

McKenna: The Reality is We've Been Very Adaptable This Year
by BonchosAura at 23:07:26

I get that the points total is disappointing, but if we'd had some luck and things going our way we'd at least be much closer to survival. So many incidents that didn't go our way, that would have led to us picking up points.

And what do people honestly expect from this season? Competing with 17 clubs with established squads they can incrementally improve with big money signings. We were bottom of the league for squad value at the start of the season. We had to improve the squad to have any chance, which means a bunch of players who don't know each other or have a rapport and then we got hit with a lot of very unfortunate injuries, including our best defender slicing his hand with a kitchen knife! The idea that someone can look at our season and moan at McKenna is insane to me. I can't be bothered to do it but you could list the incidents and decisions that have gone against us and its a lot of points affected. There were some off days including some games we really should have won. (Soton H, Man United A) but with what he was dealing with that was bound to happen.

IMHO McKenna and Ashton played a blinder by thinking long term with the squad and signing players with a high ceiling that could improve with time and give us a good chance to go up next season, and hopefully a better chance in two years where we won't have to sign a whole team.

I remember when we went down last time and everyone wanted Sheepshanks out. I think this fanbase is mostly not delusional. So McKenna didn't work two miracles in a row. But ive enjoyed this season and we'll really miss him when he's gone. Yes we didn't stay up, and we have a low points total, but if that's your only metric for success/progress it's only going to be harder the more the promoted teams go down.

Who would class as surprising departures?
Certainly think Leif might be one to go, Burns, Burgess, Walton and possibly Hirst?
I like George Hirst a lot, is he good enough for a consistent scoring threat in the Prem though?

McKenna: The Reality is We've Been Very Adaptable This Year
by Carberry at 21:54:17

Whatever the views on adaptability, styles of play, recruitment and passion, we didn't succeed. That's the end of it. For McKenna to suggest there were positives and to offer his wisdom to promoted managers is pretty arrogant in my view. He seems to be in denial that it has been a failure of a season while he has been at the helm.

Leejames99. No, I dont pretend to know everything about football but I hsve been involved with local football for over 40 years so I know a bit. I certainly know that if you take one of ur 3 in front of the 2 holders out to go 4-4-2, that u are leaving ur midfield a player down. So having a flat 4 in midfield makes it far more difficult to press the opposition defence without leaving urself totally exposed. And indeed more often than not, outnumbered in midfield. Sorry if u think I'm rude but ur constant negativity is pathetic and uncalled for. And frankly, I, like most others on here, are fed up with you coming on saying the same thing every post you put on here. As I've said to u on more thsn 1 occasion, you were one of the most fair and sensible posters on here until the last few months. Why uve decided to suddenly change that I don't know. U say that I'm rude then find it necessary to be sarcastic about the name I use on here. So what makes urs any better?

McKenna: We're Better Prepared For the Championship Than We Were Two Years Ago
by SickParrot at 19:07:43

Subject to which players leave in the summer and who we bring in to replace them, we should have a stronger squad on paper than two years ago. However, as Carlo88 points out, instead of the momentum of a high scoring promotion behind us we start next season on the back of relegation and winning very few games. Conversely expectation will be higher than last time. We will probably be favourites to win the league and all our opponents will relish the opportunity to beat the ex Premier team. It's going to be very tough to bounce straight back.

@poet
Just think, in my opinion, that if it took a boring season of shut up shop to stay in Prem Id take it, i have this feeling that Mckenna feels the players who got us promoted will do it again, i personally don't think Morsy should stay or J Taylor, the reason being is I feel this season, if they have taken anything from Prem, to survive you need players who have played together and Mckenna bought in too many players who he wasn't going to play instead wanting to give the lower league players games (which they deserved).
I look at this season as somewhat of a reward for the likes of Morsy, Burns, Walton, Chaplin etc who would of never got to play in Premier League and might get them a good move where we would make profit.
I think now is time for a reset, alot of those players are out of contract in 26 so should cash in now.
I think they should try and keep Burgess and Tunazabe along with Cajuste and pray he convinced the likes of Hutchinson and J Clarke to stay and be part of the challenge to go back.
Time will tell and of course Mckenna has been a great manager and I also think he has the tools and talented players to get back up with a few additions in one go, I just don't think he has it in him to sell the Morsy, Davis, Burns etc, they would all do well in Championship but surely we now need to build an elite team to go back up and we have three transfer windows so he has the time and money, it's time to now show what he learnt and if his ability matches his plaudits, pivotal season in his career, he will either be the next Sir Bobby or the next Paul Jewell

Well, we ruined Brian Clough's send off at Portman road, our friends up the road spoiled the Spion Kopps last stand, let's remind Everyone that they're really not up to much.
We won't mention Kevin Keegan's England losing to the Germans before Wembley was redeveloped.
I got soaked that day.
