Thanks for posting this. I've always felt very similar about Africa (and consider it one of the most overrated songs of all time) but tend not to voice my opinion too much as it seems so universally loved... I'm also well aware that I like plenty of music that many would consider total rubbish. Each to their own, hey.
I used to run a lot to a decent level and suffered from Achilles Tendonitis for five years, ruining my competitive ambitions. I had lots of different physio on it, but in the end, the thing that fixed it (with improvements literally overnight) was to get custom insoles from a podiatrist because I had developed fallen arches. Wore them in all my shoes for about a year and then just in runners for another year and don't wear them at all now but haven't had a problem since. Might not help for you, but worth looking into.
I think it's fine. Sadly, I don't really get the opportunity as I work in a school so don't get the chance to fly off early. If I did, I would happily take my children away as I think the experience would probably trump what they experience in school over the period. I'm also fortunate in that my children rarely seem to get ill and have time off, so they don't really miss a lot of school throughout the rest of the year. Taking a week off at the end of term is probably an awful lot less time missed than some children have through illness.
With regards to holidays being a privilege rather than a right, my counter-argument would be, do you not deserve nice things because you aren't wealthy? I say that as someone who had a "holiday" to Calais for less than 24 hours as my only trip abroad before the age of 13, and that was only because my granny had some vouchers for the tunnel...
I've had invisalign and am very happy with the results. No idea how much the costs compare with others as I didn't look around, I just went with the dentist I usually go to. I had already decided to go ahead with it and had booked a consultation when my dentist rang me to say they had an invisalign promo event where all retainers and treatments were being offered for a fixed cost, significantly cheaper than what I was expecting, but still £2500. This was a few years ago and I do still have retainers to wear at night. I wear them every other night.
I think he's also become one of only 8 (I believe) players to score in all of the top four flights of English football. He scored in League Two for Port Vale and Chesterfield.
I totally agree with this. He might be unlikeable and act like a petulant child, but you cannot deny the quality and longevity of his career. 130 goals in 211 appearances for Portugal, 311 goals in 292 appearances for Real Madrid. Comparisons to the other Ronaldo are valid, and maybe at their absolute peaks Il Fenomeno might edge it, but his peak was about two seasons, not 10. What do you judge the greatest player ever on? Surely longevity has to come into it, in which case there is only really Messi ahead of him in the modern era.
I never listen to podcasts (I don't tend to have a lot of dead time as my commute is short) but I put this on this morning and have to thank you. It was wonderful! The tractor story was superb, but so many great stories. It's as if every story from Gazza is better than your own best funny story.
I've had a series of Garmins and always go back to them because they are so good. I never buy the expensive ones and tend to go for midrange ones. Currently on a ForeRunner 245 Music which is great and has everything I need (I would survive with just an accurate GPS system but this includes HR, cadence, etc). As a bit of background I'm a fairly experienced runner so can sort out my own training sessions, but do often use the suggested runs it gives me. I don't care for any smartwatch features and turn off notifications.
I can't let an opportunity like this go without recommending my own books. The first one is pretty much a parody book but (I would say) a reasonable and quick read. The second and third are much more serious action/crime stories and far superior in quality (I learnt a lot writing the first, including what I actually want to write about). A Cloud Can Weigh A Million Pounds The Flames That Lick at the Shadows The Deluge
That was glorious. I think I'm taking our promotion for granted on a day to day basis now, but watching things like that (especially that owning game at Sunderland) brings home just how incredible it was.
