Delap to Arsenal ?
at 06:32 8 May 2025

The club has not stated exactly what this "release" clause is and they haven't stated it's £30m.

As a businessman, I wouldn't sign an unproven player at this level for £20m (or whatever it was that we paid City) and include a clause that the maximum we could get is £30m. I might sign a clause that said if someone bids £30m it triggers a potential sale at that figure, but then it opens up the possibility of increased offers from elsewhere and obviously the player's potential acceptance of any acceptable deal to the club.

I would seriously question our CEO's business acumen if the contract states that the maximum we can get for him is £30m.

Just ran that table at 45 minutes, we'd be 15th and Arsenal would be champions . .

Poor old Trawler Boys. Not at all good.

I'm originally a Lowestoft lad, actually played for them back in the day, so I get notifications of their scores.

I got the notification "play suspended" and it was either 4-1 or 5-1 when the incident happened, so made no difference to the result.

Lowestoft were relegated already, before the match started, so I imagine with Telford being so far from Lowestoft they didn't want to traipse back to reply a dead rubber.

Really hope the goalkeeper has recovered. Sounded awful.

Made me think back to my playing days and when I used to watch them as a kid. I was there the night the keeper (can't 100% recall his name, begins with "M", Mutton I think) came rushing out to clear a ball and smashed into Rex Butcher's leg. The whole crowd could hear the "crack", dreadful injury. Will never forget that.

Sky Sports really should employ a translator...
at 08:13 13 Apr 2025

I used to really enjoy Soccer Saturday when Jeff Snelling did it, along with Le Tis, Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas, et al. It was fun, in amongst the thrills of the games themselves.

Nowadays I just can't watch it. That new presenter can't lace Jeff's boots and Merson, Morrison and Boyd, for me, are useless and barely understandable.

They could certainly do a lot better than Mike Dean in the ref's spot too. He seems to have no real personality.

The best pundit, actually with the ability to describe something in a succint, descriptive and understandable manner is Sue Smith. She's excellent imho.

Another excellent article from the Guardian re the gulf between the Prem & C
at 07:55 23 Feb 2025

Don't know if this has been spotted/already posted, but yesterday's results for the 3 promoted teams, who were all at home, was 0-4, 0-4 and 1-4.

That says everything.

Crossed to the dark side today

They were actually 6th in the live table before the pen went in.

They could well sneak into the playoffs again looking at the form of the clubs around 6th.

Would love them to finish 7th, level on points with 6th but having a 1 worse goal difference.

I totally agree with that as far as throw-ins are concerned.

As we're so data-based I wonder if they've done stats on what % of OUR throw-ins cause us to lose possession. That number would be very high.

Marcus Stewart Evening

I would have loved to go to that, but being based in Thailand makes that pretty difficult unfortunately.

One of my mates went and like you he said it was a superb evening.

Met Marcus a few times, once with his dad away at a Southampton game. Such a top man and I so wish him well in his battle.

Rob Edwards now gone . . .
at 15:47 9 Jan 2025

I have a good mate who’s an avid Luton fan.

He said a few weeks ago that Edwards had lost the plot, plus the board who haven’t invested in players, just the new ground.

According to him they lost their 6 best players upon relegation, yet signed no-one. Their best 4 remaining players have been injured for weeks and they’ve lost10 consecutive away league games.

This culminated in playing their attacking midfielder at right back and their left winger playing as a 10 against QPR.

I feel for my mate . . 😩

They’re away both games, so travelling twice. We’re at home both games, no travelling.

That doesn’t totally even things up but it helps.

VAR last night
at 16:28 31 Dec 2024

“Our” cameras just give St George’s the videos, it’s their technology that interprets/investigates using all the various camera angles and they put in the “lines”, where/when necessary.

The footage doesn’t necessarily need to be perfect quality, as long as feet and body positions are investigative using straight, parallel (to the goal line, penalty box) lines (not the cut of the grass as that could be slightly “off”).

I guess the goal line and penalty box lines could be slightly “off” too, but probably a better point of reference.

KM got it spot on last night . .
at 07:51 28 Dec 2024

We simply don't have the squad to go with the formation and attacking approach we took in League 1 and the Championship.

To go gung-ho against the top teams in the Prem (especially away from home) will fail with the quality of player we currently have, a la Man City, West Ham. Same happened against in-form Newcastle at home.

What KM did last night was smart - 5 at the back and try to stifle them. We kept Arsenal to just the one goal and then with 10 or so minutes to go, just 1 down, put the attacking options on and give it a go. Sure, we may lose 2-0, but there's a chance we could snatch an equaliser or possibly a winner if we've kept a game at 0-0 until 80 mins.

I hope we see this a lot more in the tougher away games.

Great memories.

Mariner was just awesome, won everything in the air and what a player Gatesy was too, superb finishing.

I remember seeing Butch at left back on quiet a few occasions when Osman and Beattie were the first choice central defence.

What a team we had then. It was a pleasure and an excitement to go watch them every week.

Cajuste’s long throws were ok, it was Leif’s and Axel’s where we gave possession away pretty much every time.

The 4th goal
at 06:29 29 Oct 2024

In my opinion, yes.

Mbeumo is left footed, Leif knows that, so should have forced him down the line. Leif's positioning is very poor, leaving the inside open, which is obviously far more dangerous in any case, especially with a left footer.

For me, Muric is just as culpable as there wasn't a Brentford player close enough to the flight of the ball to add any touch. Total miscalculation by Muric and appeared unaware of zero impending danger, apart from the flight of the ball.

It is a form of abuse when someone leaks, semi leaks or intimates confidential information, because they know the team in advance.

Phil should have deleted the thread as soon as the idiot made that initial post. He has time to prevent idiotic and potentially damaging threads, which this could have turned into. It may already have done, I can’t be bothered to read through the whole thread.
