The Labour stance on Brexit was an absolute shambles under Corbyn. A better strategy for the country would have been for them to accept the result and formulate in opposition a clear plan to leave in a manner that would have been as painless and seamless as possible (though it would not have been easy). Instead we had the patronising "people's vote" campaign, led largely by Labour MPs who didn't even want to win an election with Corbyn as leader, giving Boris Johnson the easy tag line "get Brexit done". Which was completely devoid of substance but played well with a public who were sick of the entire fiasco. Fighting a battle you've already lost is never a good idea. |

I think the key difference though is that Corbyn comes across as genuine, whereas Galloway is like the most eloquent second hand car salesman you would ever meet. |

The plus of having Corbyn on board is that he is a household name, and as much as some people loathe him, there are a sizable amount of people that love him. The hundreds of thousands of people who joined the Labour Party under his leadership haven't just disappeared. There would also be brand recognition as you would know what to expect from a party he has helped found. He's a terrible party leader though, so I think if they were to make any medium term headway they would need to unearth a more ruthless, media savvy leader with Corbyn more in the background. |

I didn't see any of that. I like Lucan, though he can make some rather out there comments. What was the gist of what was said? |
 | Forum Reply | Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.. at 09:26 2 Jul 2025
I missed all of this, who are we talking about, and what was said? If it's ok to ask such questions. |

My opinion is that the cases are quite different, in that one was directed at vulnerable people already under significant threat at the time, whilst the other was a reaction to mass slaughter carried out by one of the most advanced militaries in the world with tacit consent from our own government. Lucy Connolly's sentence was ridiculous however, and only served to create a martyr for those who would destroy free speech for all but those who agree with them given the chance. Court sanctioned community work with refugees would have been a far more beneficial sentence to have been handed out, both for her and society. |

I didn't call for the death of anyone, and I wouldn't have joined in. But I don't believe the chant in question was directed at individuals but rather the IDF as an institution. If I called for the death of Yigal Amir would I be an antisemite? He is Jewish after all. |
 | Forum Reply | Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.. at 14:23 1 Jul 2025
So what if they're all Jewish? What is the relevance? Last time I checked holding all Jews collectively responsible for the actions of the Israeli state was antisemitic. |
 | Forum Reply | Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.. at 14:18 1 Jul 2025
My interpretation was that the chant was calling for the death of the IDF as an institution rather than those serving within it. If it's antisemitic to chant death to the IDF, then surely Abbott's now deleted tweet is correct in your eyes? |
 | Forum Reply | Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.. at 13:55 1 Jul 2025
It's appears she's conflating the IDF with Jews in much the same way you did earlier in the thread. Did you have a concentration lapse? |
 | Forum Reply | Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.. at 10:26 1 Jul 2025
It would only constitute antisemitism if the chant was targeting the IDF because it was Jewish, rather than for the atrocities it is committing daily. The ethnicity of those committing war crimes is irrelevant, it's the war crimes people are angry about. |

I thought the point he was trying to make was that the audience were thick, and would chant along to anything, and that that is dangerous. All rather patronising and dismissive of the genuine and legitimate outrage people feel about an ally to the UK massacring people whilst they wait for food. |

I just heard Bob Dylan’s Masters of War, how has that man escaped jail the past 60 years?! “I hope that you die, and your death will come soon” - vile incitement to violence. |

That’s the official position of the British government is it not? I doubt it would be especially controversial, particularly as it’s actually happening. Do you not watch the news? Disgust at genocide does not equate to support for Hamas et al, no matter how many times it’s used as a slur to deflect attention from the horror unfolding. |

It's been highjacked by the very people who'd call you a "greebo" back in school for wanting to go to such an event. I'm sure there's still loads of great stuff going on, but the BBC coverage makes it look like a massive tvatfest. |

To be fair, ambiguity was the election strategy that gave Labour a huge majority. No need to set the agenda, that's what Nigel Farage is for. |
