How about we don’t get side tracked and just look at this from a purely footballing view.
Last season was not good for him, not surprising trying to anchor the midfield in a struggling team where we simply weren’t physical enough.
He was never a player with electric pace but last season he never broke the lines and he seldom played ant killer passes.
A superb player and captain for our club and never to be forgotten for what he did in that squad of players but I think he is past his best, time has caught up with him.
Can his body last 90 minutes in two games a week?
If not can we afford the luxury of sentiment. |

Physios on and takes player off, game continues, he has to stay off for 10 minutes to be assessed.
Player is safeguarded by having treatment, game continues with team down to 10 men.
Next “injury” exactly the same.
I have never seen so much diving and cheating in a half of football.
Fernandez clutching his head, he was never touched.
If we have the wonders of all camera angles why can’t there be restrospective action for simulation.
This could be picked up after the game and player booked or indeed banned for a game. |

With Delap you know a booking is not far away.
The Everton defenders were trying to get a second yellow card for him and to be fair I have seen them given.
He wasn’t looking at the ball but was looking at the player. |

I went there back in the day, got in the ground and started chanting.
The other end emptied and we naively thought they were town fans coming to join us!
They came in chanting “ we are the shed etc”
A copper next to me said it was our fault for coming to Chelsea , what a tosser.
At least we were prepared for them when they came to the North Stand! |

It’s been mentioned, Wolves were getting stronger and stronger in the second half and the writing was on the wall.
I only get to see the town on the box but nearly every game it’s apparent that the opposing team are bigger, faster and seem to have more about them
There is a huge gulf between Championship players and PL players.
Our Manager can only pick the players he has at his disposal.
I do however share the view that for some reason he has not been prepared to make substitutions earlier or indeed take a gamble when we needs a change in tactics. |

Yes players “tired” after8 games in the Premiership and even the England manager saying players need a rest.

I’m really not sure that I agree with your sentiment.
Yes he looks smooth on the ball and usually in a game slides past a couple of tackles but how many times has he played killer passes or indeed took the game by the scruff of the neck and changed the outcome?
He has only just started to last 90 minutes. |

In the past, age check here, how many people took the piss out of Tony Pullis’s side, Stoke City, with their long throw in, one Rory Delap, now every team uses them.
Wasn’t football back in the day, the purists were outraged.
Here we are, we haven’t got a long throw in.

Time and time again we seem to be adverse to putting the ball in the box.
We seem to be out muscled in midfield after a few sideways or backward passes and eventually we lose possession.
If we are going to lose possession lose it in their box with Delap an ever presence.
Might get a chance, a deflected own goal or a corner.
At this stage of the season what have we got to lose.
If we go down let’s go down fighting. |
