For those of you saying "he only got off a custodial sentence and if it was us we'd have been sent down etc.." Were any of you at the trial? Thought not.
I wasnt either, so it is just speculation. My speculation would be that he avioded going to prison because the judge decided he was needed at home supporting his family, not because he is a footballer. And btw he did get a custodial sentence which will always be on his record... it is just suspended. British justice is not perfect, but I'd rather our justice system than anyone else's. |

I appreciated Roy's candour, and he did bring some good things to the club. There have been no serios problems with discipline, the team has a backbone and a toughness and work ethic that was not there with some of the previous managers over recent years, he has kept players feet on the gound sucha s Wickham, and he did win more games than he lost (though not enough for an ambitious club). I certainly wish him well in the future. |

Hopefully this is just paper talk. Staying put for at least a season is the best for everyone, Connor and Town, oh, except Jonathon Barnett. Hopefully Connor has his head screwed on and decides to play for us this year before deciding. In terms of valuation, we would be crazy to consider anything less than £10M, this lad is prob going to be the England centre forward for years to come and could be worth the sort of money some have mentioned in a year or two. |

I think RW's story is one taht lots of talented young players should learn from (Connor I hope you read this). Not only does such a player get lots of first team action, they become the fans' hero. We used to chant "England's no.1" long and loud well before he ever played for country, but his confidence grew and grew, and there was a terrific sense of the team, player and fans all benefitting together. When he left for Arsenal and was just beginning to get picked for country, he had a couple of nightmares (bringing down strikers to concede penalty) and the Arsenal fans didn't give a monkey's about him. His confidence disappeared and IMHO he never recovered. |

Agree with sirben... and would also add that he did the dirty on us. He and his money grabbing agent made sure Arsenal knew exactly what the clause was in his contract (remember he had just signed a new contract with us) so that Arsenal could buy him at a fee that was below his valuation at that time. I still maintain that the timing and manner of his departure was the turning point in our fortunes, and signalled that we had peaked and would not be able to retain or attract star players, even after finishing 5th. For that, I will never forgive him. |
