Stoke City 0-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:19:07

2nd Jan 2023 we drew with Lincoln and slipped to 3rd in league 1, followed by a poor run which ended with a 0-0 draw at Bristol Rovers which saw us go 4th, 10 points behind Plymouth. Once our Transfer windows signings settled in we know how that ended.
We are NOW 2nd in the Championship, a league that our manager has no experience in, some of our players have had no success in and other players have never played in.
Probably too much to ask that we have a transfer window like last year, but the management team does have previous, so if a failure to beat Stoke is a poor result we have come an awful long way in a very short space of time!
Happy New Year All!

Rooney: Fulham Have Window in Which to Recall Stansfield
at 18:17:27

@Arniem Agree about Buabo but according to KMcK last night he is injured as well so won't be contributing much which is a shame. Would like to see Stansfield in ASAP but we will only hear about it once it's done.
Not sure about Diallo as he has been injured and not played so that looks a risk which I am not sure this management team would go for.

EFL Publishes 2023/24 Squad Lists

Can we set up a gofundme page to raise money to purchase middle names for Lee Evans and Leif Davis?
Unless any of their more over-endowed colleagues want to donate a middle name to them!
Don't want any feelings of inferiority in our great club!

Town Working on Scarlett Loan Signing
at 13:34:34

Agree Pezzer. He started last season well but fell away when pompey as a team fell away..
He looked good in an attacking team and has plenty of pace so hopefully he will fit in well with our style of play.
Got to be honest one of the best forward signings this year by any team in the championship has to be Hurst if 1.5 m is the actual cost. So many others on inflated fees and if he scores 10-15 goals this year he is gonna be worth 8-10 m at today's rates.

Ipswich Town 3-4 Leeds United - Match Report
at 18:01:34

Leeds had to bring in their on strike forwards to beat us..
Good match but their forwards were more clinical than ours and both defences were poor.
We are still looking dangerous going forward so there are many more points to be had. We won't meet that quality every week.
Shout out to the Leeds fans though as from the North it looked like they were still clapping rather than celebrating when their 3rd goal went in which was class..

Ipswich Town 2-0 Stoke City - Match Report
at 20:01:02

2 games in and the refereeing is all over the place.. last week the Sunderland lad got a yellow for tripping Davis which got him sent off but today body checking Burns off the pitch twice, tripping Mass once he is past you and clattering Davies a couple of times to stop him creating havoc down the left in the first 30 minutes is OK.
Except if your name is Morsy cos then it does state in the refs manual that you have to book him
But all told brilliant performance all round from all those who started and the subs who made an impression once on

McKenna: Edwards at the Stage Where He Wants to Go and Start More Games
at 18:36:47

Edwards has said that he wants to start games. Much as I like him as an impact sub Im not sure he is up to starting games in the Championship.... yet...
Presumably that is what KM has told him so he wants to go and start games somewhere else.
Fair play to KE for wanting to play.
Fair play to KM for being honest about the situation.
It is what it is!

Warne: Town Are a Blueprint For the League
at 17:10:17

Interesting one this - Their fans were saying after the Pboro game that as soon as Posh went more direct and attacked with pace in the 2nd half that they were over-run and weren't in the game cos their midfield is too slow
So do they sit back so we cant get behind them and risk having the crowd on their back or go for it and hope we don't break on them.
As McKenna was at that game we trust him to do what is necessary!

Blue Action to Trial Cobbold Stand Move
at 21:27:16

Got to be honest and say that I'm such an old git that I remember the "good old days" of the away supporters being in the North Stand and both sets of supporters trying to out sing/antaganate each other. Those days are long gone! I was at the Portsmouth game at the start of the season I was in the SAR end and all you could hear was the Portsmouth fans... The sound from the North stand doesn't carry that far.
I am all for Blue Action trying to generate more sound, well done all of you, and it has taken soooo long for any of us to have this enthusiasm and long may it last. I will always be North Stand, thats where I grew up and thats where I will die, but if sitting in North and Blue Action are generating sound in Section A that noise is filtering elsewhere I will be truly grateful.
Things move, times change, embrace it or we my as well look back on the Mick Mac days as being heaven

Town Seven Points Off Top Ahead of Lincoln Trip
at 22:17:42

Jeez fellas.. chill the beans.. Plymouth have to play all the following AWAY as yet.. us, Sw, Bolton, Barnsley & Pboro.. It just happens that they have played all the top teams at home so far. If they are still there after this then they deserve to be.. but I suspect they won't be!!

McKenna: One of the Best Performances Since I’ve Been Here
at 21:42:24

Thing is we are too one dimensional now and need to change it. We feel the compulsion to get the ball out wide and cross it along the 6 yard box... Thats where all our goals came from in midweek and was all we were about today.
Both Lincoln and Cheltenham flooded the 6 yard box with defenders when we had it wide, so put Lineker in his prime in our front line and he will ALWAYS be outnumbered and struggle to get on the end of a cross. He wouldn't get the fabled 20 goals a season playing this way.
Mix it up, cross it quicker so the defenders cant get back, take a shot from outside the box, Morsy did it early season but wont shoot now, dont put Burgess up front unless you are prepared to swing balls in the air that he can attack, he didn't have a header to compete for.
You know far better that us Kieron so over to you! Maybe your first test of hopefully many as a manager..

First Ever League Victory Over Cambridge Could Send Town Back to the Top
at 10:40:47

@HatStand - Probably the same reason that the Print At Home Match tickets state that the Entry time for the match tonight is 1-45pm - 2:15pm.
Either there is only one turnstile open or everything has been re-instated as was after the previous Saturday cancellation :-)

Ipswich Town 3-2 Portsmouth - Match Report
at 18:53:25

2nd penalty was really harsh as neither of them were going to come down with the ball, no more a penalty that the trip on Chaplin in the first half but Chaplin didn't go down much to Morsy's annoyance.
Not keen on them but thought the Pompey fans made it a good occasion, loads of noise and a good appreciation of Chaplin at the end which was class

So John-Jules gets booked for kicking the ball away but it's OK for Joey Barton to put the ball up his jumper in the first half to stop JD taking a quick throw. Must be because Joey is a bit if a "lad" and we are a bit scared of him.
Never mind Joey - football won tonight :-)

Chaplin: That Has Set the Standard

Thought Chaplin was mom yesterday although could be persuaded by several others. Hopefully having a run in the side will be productive this season whereas last year we swapped between him and Celina not really giving either of them time to settle

Keogh Signing Confirmed
at 11:33:14

Reading other reports it appears that he wanted to move this way to be near family, which may mean the wages aren't big.
Seems to me like KMck is building a squad to just get us out of the league this year. There will be games where we come under aerial bombardment from some teams and having someone of his quality and experience will help.
Tail end of last year we lost Edmundson to injury, Burgess suspended and we went into 2 games with Baggott, who did superbly well but if they had been playoff games instead of meaningless ones it may have been different.
Still need a goalscorer but this signing does make some sense
