 | News Comment | Phillips Set For Town Medical at 11:13:37
Given his time at West Ham last season and that he can't play vs Man City, I think they take this week to look at him, and start him against Fulham. Don't throw him in on Saturday, as if it doesn't go well and his confidence is fragile it could be a slow rebuild - we signed him for the season and not just for Saturday! |
 | News Comment | Town Among Clubs Eyeing England International Phillips at 14:48:24
Whilst I had thought about him and the fact he could do a job for us earlier in the summer, the more you think about it, the more it doesn't really stack up. His wage demands would be significant, which could disrupt squad cohesion, he hasn't had a consistent run of games in more than 2 years, so fitness is likely an issue, when we play a high intensity press. I could see it on a loan basis with him trying to get his career back on track (and Citeh trying to generate some return for him), but I can't imagine we'd buy him outright, feels too much of a risk. |
 | News Comment | No Fortuna Extra-Time at 16:44:45
Not sure they charged extra on the grounds there would be extra time. Plus a penalty shootout can take up to 30 minutes to sort out anyway, so doubt anybody will be crying into their bovril over it! |
 | News Comment | Szmodics Talks Continuing at 14:55:59
Given the injury concern over Broady, it feels like this will be a wide left option, which when you look at the opportunities we created for Broady last season would feel ideal (not as skillful, but a more ruthless finisher). Would be a forward line with teeth: Hirst/Delap/Smodic (S), Smodic/Broady/Harness (WL) Hutchinson/Chaplin/Taylor (10), Burns/Hutchinson/Delap (WR) So many options. Just need a new central midfielder to support Morsy and Luongo and we have a start 11 with a bit of depth, then support/developmental players to grow |
 | News Comment | Town Agree Fee For Manchester City Striker Delap at 14:34:40
@Keanos_Barmy, not yet - we should be able to capitalize the costs over the duration of the contracts, so if all 4 are on 5 year contracts (think one might be reported as being 4) then the costs into 2024/25 year of accounts would be £15m (unless the capitalisation is weighted to the front of the contract - I don't know the exact rules) plus costs capitalised from prior years signings, plus wages. Take that off the £100m we are reported to have received this year as being part of the premier league we should still be sitting comfortably under it. |
 | News Comment | Town Still Favourites For Philogene, No Everton Fee Agreed at 11:54:34
Agent probably pushing for Everton as they'll pay more salary - not that they'll have a clue where the money is coming from with the 777 debacle! Sounds like the joint deal we've agreed works for Hull, so hopefully we can sort it with the player too. Can we please just get this done now... |
 | News Comment | Town Hutchinson Offer Expected - Report at 07:50:07
Chelsea clearly leaking info in the hope of starting an auction. We've waited until the FFP deadline so as to benefit from Chelsea's need to get their financial in order - so we have a stronger hand to play. We can also make some signings pre-1st July and then others post 1st July to benefit from the 2 FFP Windows (2023/24 & 2024/25) - would expect at least one big signing to drop before the end of the weekend. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Tuanzebe Has Made Good Progress at 08:48:17
I think he's done a good job of steadying the ship on that right hand side when we had a sticky patch with regular confusion between Clarke and Woolfie - he's a more solid defender, but doesn't quite give us what we need going forward. Clarke clearly has a great relationship with Burns and has also given us some good energy off the bench which has swung games over the last couple of months, so it's worked from that perspective. Not sure what the long term answer is here as ideally you have a hybrid of the two (which probably was Williams), but can see us continuing for the last 5 games with Abel starting and the Clarke impacting in the 2nd half. |
 | News Comment | Tomasson: First Half Cost Us the Game at 01:42:13
Really well articulated, however, he left out the bit where we should have scored 6 goals in that first half. We were great and the Blackburn defence was awful. 2nd half they stepped up and we dropped off - we can't let teams free run from their centre half to our left back position without being challenged and expect not to concede, but so good the boys stepped up and got the win. Hutinson also looks different gravy! |
 | News Comment | Town to Introduce Ticket Touting Policy at 09:37:00
Got no problem with this in principal, however, I often give my (and my son's) season ticket to a friend and their child, or to two mates who upgrade my son's ticket - I don't resell (they pay for the upgrade). As long as the new policy doesn't get in the way of that and tries to force me to sell my ticket as opposed to gifting it to somebody, I'm good with it. Just need to be aware of the law of unintended consequences! |
 | News Comment | Blues YouTuber Griffin Releases Christmas Song at 09:01:00
Watched it with the sound off at work - looks well produced and a good effort, but expect I've not lost anything through not having the sound on. Why does he walk like he's carrying a couple of barrels? |
 | News Comment | Penney Enjoying Spell With Motherwell at 12:56:03
Was speaking to a friend of mine who is a regular at Fir Park earlier this week and he was raving about him. Said he's miles better than the two players (both injured) who normally play there. Think they'd keep him in a heartbeat, but like 99% of Scottish Football, they've not got any cash! |
 | News Comment | EFL Matches Postponed as Mark of Respect at 12:20:08
Actually done me a favour as I couldn't make tomorrow's game - the postponement, not the death of her majesty. In the wider context, I'm comfortable with games being postponed as a mark of respect. it's not like it happens every week - plus it gives plenty something to moan about, our good start this season has reduced the opportunities for some people to date!! |
 | Blog Comment | Viewpoint: Barnsley - 27/08/2022 at 10:38:05
Good write up - I agree there is no need to panic. won 4, drawn 2 and of the draws, Morsey should have scored in the last minute to beat Bolton and the Ref decisions stopped us winning against Barnsley - could be sitting here with 6 wins, although if this were last season we could easily be sitting here with 1 win, 3 draws and 2 defeats! My only concern is that we've played 4 lower end teams and won and played two top half teams and drawn - definitely harder times to come as we play Sheff Weds, Posh, Derby and Pompey - but at the moment the team's playing really well, keeping it tight (for the most part, still the occasional lapse to get the heart in the mouth!) and things look good. it's going to be a long season (especially with the World Cup break), but it's all trending in the right way at the moment. Just hope we've got McKenna bought into the long term project ala Burley/Sheepshank, so we don;t have a stella season and he then leaves us for Watford (or a.n.other generic premier League yoyo!) |
 | News Comment | Bonne's QPR Future in Question at 15:40:08
He is not the answer to the 20 goal a season striker discussion (which I'm not sure we need). Totally get he's an Ipswich lad and would give his all, but he is not the goal machine that people are arguing for. He can score goals (but offers less than Harness, Chaplin and Burns) and harries defenders (which Ladapo is doing very effectively at the moment), but I've also never seen a player be offside as much. Plus the goals he did score at the start of last season, he missed twice as many sitters. I don't think he's game is suited to how we play now (hence minimal goals after McKenna joined) and I would have preferred we kept Piggott than bring him in. I would love to be proved wrong and for him to join and be a success, but he doesn't get anywhere near our current starting 11 at the moment and any additions should be competing for a starting spot. |
 | News Comment | Work Permit Scuppered Celina Stoke Move at 13:16:34
Would take Celina if we can afford him/he wants to come, but if it were to be a him vs Hirst, I think I'd take Hirst. Celina's good, great to watch and has bags of talent, but is he a long term permanent option? Just feels like he blows too hot and cold |
