I dont think the obsession is due to the Norwich connection - it is because when fit he has probably the best goal contribution stats in the Championship - I remember the NTT20 podcast people showing his numbers are really good We are going to need to get out of the league - that is priority 1,2,3 and 4 - if he helps us make that more likely, then we should be considering it |

I am more worried that a line in a newspaper report that "he is not that keen to drop down to the Championship" is being turned into the gospel truth and will become a stick to beat him with if he does end up at Portman Road While it is unlikely that he got to the end of the season, played in a European final, and his first thought was "tell you what, I quite fancy a go at the Championship" (leaving aside the quality comparison between the UEFA Conference League and the Championship) But it now looks like he will be at best number three in Chelsea's ranking of strikers behind Delap and Jackson, you would think. They may also need to fit in Nkunku, and they wont have finished stockpiling players yet given their Champions League commitments. And where in the PL are they going to find a club they are prepared to loan him to? It is also very early in the transfer window so he may not be wanting to close off other options. An initial reaction that "I would rather start for Chelsea" is completely understandable, but if he ends up at Ipswich I would be both amazed and delighted, and I would not read into his journey here that he has a bad attitude |

it is useful to see benchmarks in the form of historic prices, but I would query whether any of those players would command those fees after the season they have each just had. I agree that Delap is arguably better than those players, and should command a higher fee in an open market, I just dont think Man Utd are going to be able to sell Hojlund for more than 30m at the moment! |

I remember that quote too - and good to see him play last night - that would be an unbelievable loan But the bigger questions are how do you pronounce Guiu, and what chant does he get? [Post edited 29 May 15:34]

KM said that after the last game - effectively we were underdogs in every game we played last season on this basis, and therefore the base case is that we should not have got a point (OK, the last bit I added) |

Well at least he didn’t pick Liam Delap - got to think that would increase what we pay to City if he got a call up. It looks like the U21s are all being ring fenced - how else to explain Wharton? |

Surely Nuno needs to ask Danny Murphy's view before making such an idiotic move? The resident MOTD defensive guru can then tell the naive Forest boss that Leif is the reason we conceded so many goals... |

OK, Devil's advocate: Below the current top 4, we have taken points off every team in the Premier League except Forest, Palace and Brentford (on the basis that we are going to take West Ham to the cleaners this weekend), and all three of those sides you could have seen us getting at least a draw in one or other of the fixtures. Agree that the record against the bottom clubs has not been brilliant, but we have had our moments. Specifically on the Leicester and Southampton games, we scored 3 goals across those 4 games from an aggregate of 6.4 XG, our opposition scored 6 from 5.0 XG - and considering we played for a portion of one of those games with 10, that does suggest we should have got more points from those fixtures. It wouldn't have made a difference to getting promoted, but it is a more comforting indicator of performance in the Championship I would say. [Post edited 21 May 14:04]

If nothing else it means they get to play on a decent surface - would any other ground they play at have a premier league quality pitch? |

I would say that Coventry are the better watch as a team, but Sunderland are more likely to beat the blades in the final - they have a doggedness that may frustrate Sheffield whereas Coventry would have been more likely to want to play. Sheffield will win I think in a reasonably uneventful game with few chances - the Bristol City game was a bit freakish |

Yup - clutched his head, complained like crazy about the unfairness of the challenge but in reality was simply beaten in the air by Delap. Mbuemo did something similar in the second half - bit of ankle clutching after a tackle, sees that he is not getting the foul, jumps up and makes a tackle in midfield Utterly shameless |

On the subject of ‘housery - wasn’t there a directive earlier this season about only the captain speaking to the referee? That certainly hasn’t lasted - the Brentford players had at least three around the official pretty much the whole time. TBH I don’t think it always helped their cause, but it grinds my gears to see it. I also wonder whether the fact that van den berg went down like the proverbial sack of whatever in an earlier challenge with Delap, holding his head, only to make a miraculous recovery, whether that might have counted against him in some of the later incidents - I would hope so |

As I mentioned yesterday and Joe on BM also led with, it doesnt really solve the problem as the punishment is completely asymmetric - you are much more likely to take a risk as an attacking team if the only downside is a defensive free-kick versus the defending team where the dowwnside is a penalty - so that approach very much favours the attacking side |

How about making a rule that the players just have their hands behind their back until the ball is in play - they do this already when defending a cross in open play just in case they commit inadvertent handball, so this will not be a difficult skill to adopt. |

I don’t know the letter of the law here, but there is no question in my mind that all these shenanigans play into the hands of the attacking team whoever they are. If both teams are told “you are on your final warning” the next referee action for a foul will be either a free kick to the defending side or a penalty to the attackers - it is completely asymmetric. It is only natural that the defending side will be more cautious than the attackers. In the end it was a couple of mistakes that led to the goal (not tracking Schade, not staying on the post), but it definitely felt like it would not end well… |

hmmmm, not sure that is down to VAR alone. I think Saka missing a completely open goal may have also contributed to that - PSG with some terrific finishing, Arsenal's finishing was horrific, and that is why the French are going into the final It does feel to me that PSG have come off the boil somewhat since they completely played Liverpool off the park twice |
