EFL Statement Rules Out Extended Play-Offs
at 08:46:55

Looking on the bright side, we might have finished 16th in 1953 but we won the division the following season and were champions of England within a decade, so there's always hope!

Twenty Years Ago Today: Stewart Hits Double as Blues Draw at Bolton

Four equalisers from Town across the two legs says a lot about the character of that team.

As I recall, we'd also lost Mowbray and Johnson to injury in the first half hour and Stewart only shot (from 25 yards) for his first goal because he was limping at the time. He then missed a more or less open goal in the second half before his equaliser.

Key Talks on Future of Leagues One and Two
at 11:52:05

All of the local amateur sports leagues I am involved in (not football) have rules in place setting out how league places will be decided if fixtures cannot be fulfilled. Generally, they are variants on points per games played.

I suppose the Premier League and EFL, along with most other professional leagues, never considered this to be a possible scenario and so are now stuck in a position where they are trying to make up the rules after the event. Whatever the outcome, some clubs are going to be unhappy and legal action will undoubtedly follow.

League One and Two Clubs Set to Vote on How to Decide Season
at 12:39:36

Whatever happens, there are going to be winners and losers. Nullifying the second half of the season on the basis that it was not finished whereas the first half was (everyone has played each other at least once) is no different to the other proposals in that respect. However, I think we would count ourselves as very fortunate if we were to be promoted on that basis.

Legwinski was one of our own. He won the supporters' and manager's player of the season in 2007 despite being here in the twilight of his career. I was expecting him to have popped up in a few of these teams by now.

If we're talking best loan signings, what about DJ Campbell? Scored 10 goals in 17 games in the few months he was here.

I'd happily read 176 of these. Keep up the good work, Mr Dyer.

I suspect that if we had won the league in 1975 then a lot more players from that team (Johnson, Whymark, Talbot etc.) would be popping up in these best XIs. We fell two points short that season and would have been champions if it had been three points for a win. That achievement has been somewhat eclipsed by the trophies won by the teams of '78 and '81.

Good to see Bam Bam in the team. Always gave his all for the team and turned the game when he came on for David Johnson in the playoff final. I also remember Kevin Beattie being very complimentary of his performances once he switched to centre-half later in his career.

A bit of modesty from Mr Butcher as he doesn't even get into his own second team!

It's a mark of just how good that team is that a number of great players from the seventies have been left out. The likes of David Johnson, Trevor Whymark, Brian Talbot to name but a few.

Garbutt: This is a Massive Game For Us

@NoCanariesAllowed, I was going to make exactly the same point. Even now, Fleetwood are only 2 points outside the playoff positions with a game in hand. Arguably, any of the teams down to about 15th could consider themselves to be in the promotion mix.

Lincoln City 5-3 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 19:54:57

We started today with a different back four from Thursday and then changed it twice during the match (once due to injury but once by moving the CB to RB and bringing on another CB - Lincoln scored twice soon after). Add to that the constantly rotating midfield and it's no surprise that the players seem to be strangers to each other. Lincoln played the same 11 as on Boxing Day and it showed.
