Matt Holland was £800k; any improvements? |

Pretty much the only thing to enjoy about the MM era, apart from Tyrone Mings and Noel Hunt's goal against Charlton. Wish him well. |

He scored the goal of the game in that 7-1 debacle at Peterborough. Absolute screamer! In related news, Lee Martin was peak Lee Martin that day - still, perhaps, my most disliked Towun player of all time. |

Honestly I agree with this. Caveated with the fact that you can walk to the beach in Aldeburgh for a very pleasant view, as opposed to Rands Way. |

I honestly used to think that a couple pieces Wrigley's Spearmint would cure all - mother, sadly, saw through my disguise. Used to sit on the smoking carriage on the train coming back from Uni up north - honestly, more passive smoking in an hour's travel from Donny to Peterborough than in perhaps any pub in the whole of England. The tables were stained amber-yellow, Vappers - pure ming! Those carriages *absolutely* hummed. |

The first few months after the smoking ban, every pub smelt like vomit/ parmesan - remember thinking about how grim it was. Smoking is pure grot - I used to get through 20 a day in my teens, mucky old habit. |

I think yours is a good idea. Ideally there would be no VAR at all, the referee's decision would be final, and we would all denigrate Andy D'Urso in the pub after the game for hours - but your idea is, perhaps, the best work-around of a crappy situation. |
 | Forum Reply | Minimum expectations for next year…. at 12:42 20 May 2025
... I'm not sure that they will.... Leicester are likely going to need a new manager; Saints will certainly need one - in addition, there's a potential points deduction hanging over Leicester, and a groundswell of dissatisfaction towards the respective boards of both clubs.... (If McK goes, of course, then the picture looks a little different....) Both clubs are in a huge mess - yes, we're absolutely down there in the mire with them, (and don't we all know it....) but are we a shambles? Clearly not. As much as Ashton enjoys tasting himself, it's fair comment to say that he, and his team, have the club, overall, in a strong place. Top two must be the aim. |
 | Forum Reply | Minimum expectations for next year…. at 12:08 20 May 2025
Top 2, absolutely, no questions asked. We have such a huge, huge advantage over the rest of the Champ - Saints are an absolute rabble, Leicester not much better, and, if we assume that Sheff Utd go up, the remainder of the Champ consist of a (very well organised) Sunderland, who will probably lose Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor this summer, a punchy Coventry under Lampard (who has form for falling away), who will likely lose Sheaf and Rudoni - and not a lot more - everything from 8th downwards in that league is average, bordering on drek. Brum will be our biggest threat, I think - well funded, full of momentum, and St Andrews is a full-on sh1thole to visit. Difficult to take Wrexham seriously with Phil Parkinson in charge, but they do have a few quid.... Us, Brum and perhaps Leicester chasing the 2 automatic spots is my prediction. |
 | Forum Reply | Anyone got that sort of feeling that we won't go up next season yet? at 09:27 9 May 2025
Top 6 really *isn't* OK - this team has had £130m spent on it. Southampton and Leicester are a rabble; if we assume that Sheff Utd go up, then there's really not a lot of quality in the rest of the division. Brum, weirdly, are going to be a huge threat. Wrexham less so - Phil Parkinson has never been any more than a Div 3 manager. I could see Warnock ending up at Wrexham by October... |

Pleased we've got the ground rules sorted, Christopher.; it is kind of you to let me bully you. I subsequently expect you to present me with 2 bag in used notes in The Tuns tomorrow night before close, or I will drug you and drop your comatose body somewhere on the Barking Rd. If you reply to this post I will bully you a lot worse. |

Oh yes sorry Chris from Needham Market it is good of you to clarify that. I think UEFA should put some adverts on during the minutes silence - might as well do something while you're doing nothing. |

Yeah, kinda - I don't much care for pre-season friendlies, and it was fully like that yesterday. This team haven't given up, in comparison to, maybe, Leicester and Saints, but, as stated numerous times this year, the gap between the top 17 and the rest of the pyramid is silly big. If you're Burnley or Leeds, the hope must surely be that Potter is a busted flush with the Spammers (which seems possible), or that Man Utd decide to go full, full lemming - again, possible. I honestly can't see anyone else getting dragged into the mess next year - you could, perhaps, make a slight case for Fulham, but then they put 3 past Liverpool at Craven Cottage a couple of weeks ago. The Prem seems pretty pointless, in all honesty. |

... weird, weird game. Walking in, someone in our lot mentioned that we've basically got 6 pre-season friendlies between now and the end of the season, and it very much felt like that. All the silly razzamatazz before the game felt pretty forced, from that overly cheery DJ on the PA happily braying out BLOO ARMY, to those daft fireworks and the silly little plinth the ref picks the football up off. After 18 home games and a pretty dismal season.... Lads, we are here to play a little football, that's it. That Arse team are one of the best I've ever seen at Portman Rd, along with Man City and Newcastle, again, both from this season. We are miles off them - there's no shame in that, but it makes for a strange spectacle. Odegaard was absolutely sensational, and Rice is some player. The Davis tackle has been torn to pieces here already, but his brief, gloomy cameo was a sad summary of his season - he's had next to no chance to do what he's best at this year, and ample opportunity to do what he's not, frankly, all that good at. His decision to jump in, needlessly, on the halfway line just before Arse got their 2nd gave an insight into the frustration that perhaps he must have experienced all season. The loud debate around me regarding whether he deserved a red card or not raged; regardless of the fact that he really shouldn't even have given the ref a decision to make. There was no lack of effort in that performance yesterday, which, in my opinion, gives a little less weight to the idea that this team is lacking in confidence, and gives me a decent amount of confidence that next year may see us more likely to do a Burnley than a Luton. Greaves, oddly, looked as comfortable in that LB/CB hybrid role, filling in for Davis, than he has done at perhaps any other time this season. Very little enthusiasm in the crowd, almost no noise from the travelling Arse fans, a 2 pm Easter Sunday kick-off..... yeah, it was fully weird. 5 games left this year, all of which are pretty meaningless. We get a decent amount of cash for finishing 18th rather than 19th, which Ashton will no doubt focus upon - but as a spectacle, it's all a bit hollow. |

Funny, I was quite impressed with Citeh. Agree that Toon were terrific - probably best, in fact. Arse yesterday were pathetic, with the clear caveat that neither they nor we had anything to play for. They've always been quiet, however. Toon aside, I thought Forest were very good. Stepping outside of your criteria, I've not impressed with any of the others, really - Brighton were perhaps even quieter than Arse. Bournemouth couldn't even sell their allocation, unsurprisingly, so they make a good case for being worst of all. |

29 years ago, bloody hell. Utter pandemonium in the North Stand when that happened. Everyone singing 'He gets the ball, he scores a goal, Bryan, Bryan Gunn' for what felt like 2 hours. Good, good times. |
