I suspect we might think about naming less than 25. If Clarke and Burns are out until towards the end of the year I can see a situation where we effectively have a bob each way and keep one place or even two open for them and possibly Button too.
I make us at 28 players now, then there’s Hackney and it’s pretty much universally agreed we’ll need another midfielder and striker so that takes us to 31 so we’ll have to shift 6 to get to 25 even before any more signings.
*can imagine a bit of cheat where we keep a place open but don’t register Clarke and Burns I guess.
Just to throw it out there based only on the Aberdeen game as I’ve not seen the rest…I thought we looked quite a lot more 4-4-2 with Szmodics and Hirst playing pretty close to each other in the first 60 mins. I wonder if it’s a bit more up for debate whether it’s 1 or 2 forward positions available in the team now?
Lovely lovely player but this is good business for Town.
Putting the about £7m FFP:PSR profit in the books for this season on this deal. Must be not far short of the Delap profit and just a year left on his contract.
Why so quiet this week then? Not going to be amazingly surprised if you’re right but if everything is agreed then you’d feel that more would have come out and if it isn’t then he’s our player until that changes.
Sounds like they haven’t made an acceptable offer and he’s our player. They might be waiting and hopeful Omari gets unsettled and that forces us to be more amenable to their offer but they’ll surely only wait so long.
Not sure how the structure of the payments affects PSR. In fact i suspect it doesn’t at all but in terms of the true value of the deal £35m cash now is considerably better than £35m over 5 years.
If it’s true then you can interpret that as that there is no deal done with Brentford and there is an impasse that he’s trying to force open. So basically there isn’t a deal done with Brentford and all sides are playing hardball.
If there’s no deal done then he’s our player and he’d be stupid to be anything other than professional.
I’d be fairly comfortable with our squad as it is until the end of August if it means we that late in the window we can grab some real gun additions up front and in midfield.
Of course I might get a bit wobbly if we don’t have any points after a couple of games!
I think there’s a pretty obvious candidate for the first one out and it’ll be very unpopular in Broadhead. Just with the depth we have for his role combined with his contract running down it’s hard to see him signing a new deal, if we have him this season I’d bet it will be his last and he’ll leave for nothing. We’d be better balanced with an Omari clone instead of Broadhead.
Enciso was a bit out of character for McKenna - a total maverick, outrageous talent. Maybe Carvalho can be the same but just don’t see him having tonnes of Omari qualities.
Edit I’m probably being fussy. We’re not getting a copy of Omari probably. Not easy to fine.
Hmmm not convinced Philogene can’t perform that role and he’s pretty good with both feet. Somewhere or other I’d have thought there needs to be a bit of repurposing/rejigging around Szmodics, Philogene, Clarke and Broadhead as they all pretty much play in that left channel most of the time in our system. Maybe the system changes…but it’s worked pretty well over the last 3 years so I’m guessing not.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you’re right and we go for the closest copy we can get for Omari but I think when we talk Omari replacements it’s 10 rather than a winger we need.
No disputing his quality but I think in our system he’s a square peg in a round hole. Do we even play with a central 10? Not sure do that much. More when we get on the front foot we play a left and a right 10. We’re so well stocked with left 10’s and McKenna likes his right 10’s left footed a la Omari and Chaplin.
