From that Guardian article: "...obviously I’ve had my past and kind of attracted that side of it. I kind of complain, but I can’t have it both ways.” He was found not guilty of assault after a pitch invasion in May 2022 and the year before was handed a caution after an altercation in the street, when someone confronted him. “He had actually gone for my missus,” McBurnie says. “Have a go at me as much as you like, but it’s her. I should have just, like [left it]. I’m out in Leeds, it’s normal: I’ve had that since I was 16. But she’s new to it, doesn’t understand this world, you know? She’s like: what’s going on? There are three lads. Of course it’s [scary]. She’s only five minutes from home, where she wants to feel safe, and three lads go at her. Again, I was probably in the wrong, but I’m just a normal person, you know? “‘He’s a footballer, he gets paid a lot of money so he should never react how a normal person reacts.’ I get it. I completely get it. I understand we’re in a privileged position but in the heat of the moment you make errors of judgment. ‘People’s role model …’ Never have me as your role model... Here [Las Palmas], I don’t have that. I’ve also grown up a bit: I’m a father, I have to.” |

A super display of resilience and a 'never say die' attitude. Spain are, on paper, the better team, but we were the underdogs and boy, do the British love supporting the underdog! Remember Greece and Denmark winning the men's Euros? The tournament was that much better for the lesser fancied side winning. |

I agree,.for the most part. I advocate vociferously to not compare the women's game to the men's because it is not a fair comparison. Women are 50 years of potential development behind the men. However, the attitude and mentality of the Lionesses could and should be emulated. Why do the women never feel beaten, but the men seem to? If I were a senior figure at the English FA, I'd want to tap in to the psychology there. |

I'll never forget the sound and pain of a supermarket football being tw*tted at close range onto somebody's thigh. Makes my eyes water thinking about it! |

Top six Women's teams are 1. USA 2. Spain 3. Germany 4. Brazil 5. England 6. Sweden Stands to reason that the standard is higher. |

Anyone noticed how the Spanish were falling over and rolling around at every slight contact in the first 10 minutes? The ref ignores it, and it stops. Now why can't that be the same in the men's game? Surely the refs need to stop pandering to theatrics. |

I hate the constant comparisons between men's and women's football - whichever way it is sided. However, I think that any team in any sport that has the 'never say die' attitude and confidence to not hide when they are playing poorly should be looked at and learned from. One thing I would say is that, whilst there are senior pros in the Lionesses squad, there doesn't seem to be too many big egos. Belief in one's ability is different to belief in one's own hype. Perhaps that is an advantage that the Lionesses have, being less exposed to celebrity status until very recently. I will watch with interest to see if that changes, as Women's football becomes more mainstream. [Post edited 23 Jul 18:20]

Tough one, for me. Coming on as as sub when opposition players are tiring might be the better tactic. I'd like to see her get a good 30 minutes, though, instead of the 10-15 she has been getting. She really grew into the match last night. I think England's passing in the final third was rather poor, and they were putting hopeless balls in to Russo all night. Given the right service, she's still a starter, for me. |

If the men scrapped their way into a final, I wouldn't give two hoots how they got there. Results win tournaments. Performances do not always. I'm not for one minute suggesting the last two matches the Lionesses have played were superior performances, but it calls to mind Greece and Denmark winning the men's Euros. Never say die. It's the epitome of why football is such a wonderful game. Also see Italy men's team at the last Euros. Penalties in the Semis and Finals. If we win on penalties in the final, it still makes us Euro Champs! [Post edited 22 Jul 23:54]

I think it would be hugely beneficial for the men's and ladies' teams to work together. I'm sure both teams could learn a lot from each other. |

Have to give credit to Italy. They defended superbly for 96 minutes. Yes England were off their game, but Italy kept a tight defensive line, closed down well, and really cut off the midfield. They will understandably be devastated. However, the beauty of this England squad is that they just will not lie down and surrender. And the likes of James, Agymang, Hampton, are the future and will improve. There are plenty of men's teams over the years who have played poorly but battled hard and won tournaments. Let's hope these ladies can do the same. |

She is a real diamond in the rough. Has the potential to be a super, super striker. Her positioning is already very good, and she put her foot through the ball for the goal, which we were begging for all match. |

I was told to remember the meaning by the first letter of each word: the affect is the action, the effect is the evidence. "The houses were profoundly affected by the earthquake." "The earthquake had a profound effect on the houses" [Post edited 20 Jul 0:11]
