 | Forum Thread | McKenna - His biggest strength last year is his biggest weakness at 17:18 1 Feb 2025
Substitutions! Last year we scored near enough the most goals from the bench than any other club as we were using them early and effectively. This year, and in particular two of last three home games (today and Brighton) we have used them far too late. At Brighton everyone knew we had to change and waited until the corner before the 2nd to make any changes, Too late and game over at that point!!! Why did we not bring Hirst on earlier, for me is beggars belief! To also take Broadhead off is mind boggling as he was our best attacker, enciso while he had nice touches, was holding our attack back with his greediness. Last year we looked like we could score from every attack, this year we look slow and lethargic and not potent which is strange and something I thought might change today! Muric, he kept him in the team for too long and fear us not looking for a keeper in January is going to cost us ultimately! Must be at least at fault for 6/7 points. Terrible game management, terrible substitutions, terrible day [Post edited 1 Feb 17:44]

 | Forum Thread | We’re victims of our own success, promoted too soon? at 22:21 3 Dec 2024
Whilst we spent £100m on good players with resell value, has that cost us staying up? I only ask the question because whilst we have spent it on good players that have improved the team, it did seem pretty obvious even from the Liverpool game that we didn’t sign enough prem ready players. When you’re relying on half of your league one side to keep you in the prem, do we realistically have a chance of staying up? The lack of a scouting department pre Gamechanger of which McKenna and Ashton have had to build seems to have caught up to us IMO. This isn’t McKenna or Ashtons fault as you can only inherit what you’re given but this imo has made us a victim of our success. We couldn’t explore markets outside of the UK because our scouting team wasn’t ready for that which inevitably has meant we could explore the UK markets effectively. Whilst the transfers we made were good, not being able to explore the international markets has meant we couldn’t get top division players in for a cheaper price to boost the squad e.g. Cajuste. I don’t blame McKenna or Ashton as you can’t just go in that market without knowing what your signing with enough data but are we now starting to see the the big problem with not having a squad with enough top flight experience either in the premier league or across Europe. I think it’s fair to say that Ashton made the best of what he could of the situation as he has said clearly in the past that the scouting department was non existent so having to build that from scratch as we have then gone from league one to the premier league in two years was an impossible task. The good thing is that the £100m we have spent, we should be able to recoup a large amount of that with the likes of greaves, Delap and Hutchinson ( them 3 alone you could get at least £30m for) if needed so I don’t think it’s a time to panic. We were as a club pre gamechanger, a club in huge decline due to the lack of investment. We’ve gone back to back promotions and invested heavily in that time however Rome wasn’t built overnight and have probably been promoted too soon if you can say that as the club in areas wasn’t ready for the premier league and to adapt very quickly. I think it's easy to forget life pre 2022 as an Ipswich fan, we need to stay humble and remember the journey this club has been on, no one expected us to be where we are now so we should enjoy it and imo have no expectations this season as it should be viewed as a free hit. |
 | Forum Thread | The lack of Premier League experience a concern? at 18:31 8 Jul 2024
Whilst I’m glad with signings we have made and look likely to make (Philogene,Greaves and maybe one of Downes/Sheaf). The lack of premier league experience in the squad is seriously lacking and feel like at this moment could be damaging. I’m not saying it’s a complete worry as I’m sure McKenna and Ashton will want this experience and there’s a long way to go in the window however it will be interesting to see the players and the position they play to address this issue. On a side note, we played Needham Market in a friendly on Saturday morning at playfield Road in a shortened game, in which we won comfortably (unsure if this has been mentioned). |
 | Forum Thread | One thing Ashton has got massively wrong this season at 12:18 24 Aug 2023
Not agreeing to reciprocal away ticket pricing. We will now be charged £40 because we won’t agree to reciprocal away ticket pricing. Happened to Leeds (who said in a statement we didn’t agree to it) and now Sheffield Wednesday which clearly shows we are the common dominator. I feel this is greedy from the club, I understand that they want to gain extra revenue however this comes to the fans expense as result which I don’t think is right as now a family of 4 will be spending £100 on tickets alone. This isn’t right, it’s just greedy. |
 | Forum Thread | Plan A transfer targets not going well at 12:23 2 Aug 2023
After January success of getting all our ‘Plan A’ transfer targets, it’s clear to see that it has definitely been a struggle since our promotion! The 3 signings we have brought in so far have very limited championship experience so are all unknown quantities. Must be frustration for Ashton and Co with the season opener being less than a week away. Whilst I’m glad we are refusing to pay over the offs for a player just because it’s perceived we have money, it is a little concerning that we haven’t brought in any real championship proven quality as a lot of us would have expected. I do wonder however if the management team are using this season to see who will can stand up to the challenge and next summer will be when we see the most change where it will be more evident to see where the gaps are in the squad in terms of quality. |
 | Forum Thread | Membership Fault at 10:54 13 Jul 2023
Called up to see if previous points would be retrospectively be put on if you bought the membership and it was confirmed that ONLY gold card members of last year get this perk and NOT season ticket holders. Season ticket holders last year who did not have gold cards can only start on a maximum of 5 which is what you get when you buy the membership. Frustrating to say the least! This has got to be the biggest fault with this membership!! |

Just rejected a new deal at Bordeaux and is now available on a free transfer. Has interest in England, France and Spain. Got 16g and 6a in French equivalent of championship. imagine he will be holding out for a top division move potentially but wonder if he could be tempted. |

Hearing the club are wanting to get the first signing across the line by the end of next week all going well :D |

Alan Nixon suggesting Adam Armstrong would be a target if we were to go up to the championship. |
 | Forum Thread | New Potential Signing…. Have you heard this one Phil? at 16:22 16 Jan 2023
I’m not going to mention names as It appears people already know within the forum who I will be referring to but it looks like Ipswich are trying to sign a defender permanently from a premier league club. He is on loan at a championship club and has played regularly during the season but I don’t want to say anything more than this just in case I can’t say on the forum unless Phil says I can or cant’t mention the name. Edit: It’s Harry Clarke - name been posted on social media so not a secret Deal not done yet though [Post edited 16 Jan 2023 17:56]

 | Forum Thread | There needs to be a mentality shift at 17:12 14 Jan 2023
Another game where we’ve dropped points from winning a game. It’s as if we are trying to play the perfect game. With certain teams you know that they will play up until the last second of a game trying to get that extra goal which plymouth have done this season and dare I say it Norwich over the last few times when they have been in championship scoring late goal after late goal. We on the other hand are so insistent on trying to see out what we’ve got and I understand that it is needed at certain times however this is a continuous problem that we are suffering from letting teams come back into games and not finishing them off. I fear this could be the reason if we miss out on the top 2 however we must not overreact as we have still got 20 league games this season and if you win 14/15 of them, we will be on 95 points. We have the capability of winning 15 of them but I do wonder if we have the mentality to. |
 | Forum Thread | Whittaker and Taylor at 12:29 14 Jan 2023
take with a pinch of salt: We were and still are in for Taylor however Peterborough were looking for around £2m plus and is still something we will/could be looking at in this window should the situation change and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this were still to happen late on but compromises from both Ipswich and Peterborough would have to be made. When MacAnthony was on about laughable bids for there players, he was referring to us about Jack Taylor. Whittaker is someone we have had discussions with Swansea about and while no official bid has gone in, discussions and verbal offers have been however they have will not go further than this until after todays game where it’s expected an official bid will go in. |
