I think he would have a free hit this season - next season they’d be an improved squad. Think he’d be perfect for there project! I certainly think his coaching suits a team who is more likely to have control of a game rather than a team that doesn’t. |

Substitutions! Last year we scored near enough the most goals from the bench than any other club as we were using them early and effectively. This year, and in particular two of last three home games (today and Brighton) we have used them far too late. At Brighton everyone knew we had to change and waited until the corner before the 2nd to make any changes, Too late and game over at that point!!! Why did we not bring Hirst on earlier, for me is beggars belief! To also take Broadhead off is mind boggling as he was our best attacker, enciso while he had nice touches, was holding our attack back with his greediness. Last year we looked like we could score from every attack, this year we look slow and lethargic and not potent which is strange and something I thought might change today! Muric, he kept him in the team for too long and fear us not looking for a keeper in January is going to cost us ultimately! Must be at least at fault for 6/7 points. Terrible game management, terrible substitutions, terrible day [Post edited 1 Feb 17:44]

You can’t compare us to Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth and Norwich. The gap between the championship and the premier league has never been bigger and the gap when they all went up was considerably smaller! We may may of not been good enough but let’s be honest, fighting relegation was always going to happen! |

I agree with you on that point. I think the main point I was making is that was it ever realistic that we could ever compete in the premier league over a season with the resources we’ve had to work with in the last 2/3 years with the club being completely run down 15 years prior to that. I just think it was a big ask, I do feel that that this season was a free hit in terms of where we finish as the club will be in a lot stronger position regardless of where we finih compared to a few years ago which surely is still progress? |

Whilst we spent £100m on good players with resell value, has that cost us staying up? I only ask the question because whilst we have spent it on good players that have improved the team, it did seem pretty obvious even from the Liverpool game that we didn’t sign enough prem ready players. When you’re relying on half of your league one side to keep you in the prem, do we realistically have a chance of staying up? The lack of a scouting department pre Gamechanger of which McKenna and Ashton have had to build seems to have caught up to us IMO. This isn’t McKenna or Ashtons fault as you can only inherit what you’re given but this imo has made us a victim of our success. We couldn’t explore markets outside of the UK because our scouting team wasn’t ready for that which inevitably has meant we could explore the UK markets effectively. Whilst the transfers we made were good, not being able to explore the international markets has meant we couldn’t get top division players in for a cheaper price to boost the squad e.g. Cajuste. I don’t blame McKenna or Ashton as you can’t just go in that market without knowing what your signing with enough data but are we now starting to see the the big problem with not having a squad with enough top flight experience either in the premier league or across Europe. I think it’s fair to say that Ashton made the best of what he could of the situation as he has said clearly in the past that the scouting department was non existent so having to build that from scratch as we have then gone from league one to the premier league in two years was an impossible task. The good thing is that the £100m we have spent, we should be able to recoup a large amount of that with the likes of greaves, Delap and Hutchinson ( them 3 alone you could get at least £30m for) if needed so I don’t think it’s a time to panic. We were as a club pre gamechanger, a club in huge decline due to the lack of investment. We’ve gone back to back promotions and invested heavily in that time however Rome wasn’t built overnight and have probably been promoted too soon if you can say that as the club in areas wasn’t ready for the premier league and to adapt very quickly. I think it's easy to forget life pre 2022 as an Ipswich fan, we need to stay humble and remember the journey this club has been on, no one expected us to be where we are now so we should enjoy it and imo have no expectations this season as it should be viewed as a free hit. |
 | Forum Reply | Was the behind the scenes game vs Needham Market mentioned on here? at 21:11 8 Jul 2024
We won 5/6 - 0 Probs wasn’t worth mentioning as it was only at 60/70 min game, with probably the only purpose of getting the players used to being back on the pitch after first few days of pre season. Doubt it was anymore more than that and don’t think any surprise players were on the pitch from an Ipswich perspective. I think the club took it as a pure training exercise and nothing else. |
 | Forum Thread | The lack of Premier League experience a concern? at 18:31 8 Jul 2024
Whilst I’m glad with signings we have made and look likely to make (Philogene,Greaves and maybe one of Downes/Sheaf). The lack of premier league experience in the squad is seriously lacking and feel like at this moment could be damaging. I’m not saying it’s a complete worry as I’m sure McKenna and Ashton will want this experience and there’s a long way to go in the window however it will be interesting to see the players and the position they play to address this issue. On a side note, we played Needham Market in a friendly on Saturday morning at playfield Road in a shortened game, in which we won comfortably (unsure if this has been mentioned). |

I think at that point, we were all in shock and almost finding it funny, this narrative saying we won the league never happened but just fuelled by clowns like them and as you say, are we just meant to sit there and pretend we’re not happy about winning games? The arrogance of them 2, especially that Chris Reeve needs to be looked at. If you never knew anything about football, listening to him you would think were a top 6 side in English football, the reality is they’d be lucky to be in the top 50 sides in the UK. |

I agree!! Certainly did for me as well, couldn’t believe people wanted them to go out just for a premier league derby! I personally hope they suffer for years to come! |

I also think people are forgetting about the £30 cap in the premier league. We will now pay more for a championship game than a premier league game! How is that right? If we are bound by rules that we are not allowed to do that then I understand however it didn’t stop us before unless there has been rule change since then? |
 | Forum Reply | One thing Ashton has got massively wrong this season at 12:31 24 Aug 2023
Such a lazy thing to say. The club could of done something that makes it cheaper for fans to go to games, which they have done before, but have chosen not to. As a result, you can pretty much guarantee every adult away ticket will be at £35/£40 in the league. It’s greed. |
 | Forum Thread | One thing Ashton has got massively wrong this season at 12:18 24 Aug 2023
Not agreeing to reciprocal away ticket pricing. We will now be charged £40 because we won’t agree to reciprocal away ticket pricing. Happened to Leeds (who said in a statement we didn’t agree to it) and now Sheffield Wednesday which clearly shows we are the common dominator. I feel this is greedy from the club, I understand that they want to gain extra revenue however this comes to the fans expense as result which I don’t think is right as now a family of 4 will be spending £100 on tickets alone. This isn’t right, it’s just greedy. |

Ashton says he’s expecting a transfer domino effect once ‘newly relegated sides start selling players’ yesterday. Today we’re linked with one of there players. Either we are interested in them and words match up to action or agents just listening in to what he is saying to try and gear up a move away elsewhere - I think we all know it is most likely the latter |
