 | News Comment | Delap Release Clause ÂŁ30m at 13:40:00
The only people who KNOW what his contract says are those who have read it. Everything else is hearsay, speculation and tittle tattle. Please remember that we are dealing with reality not fantasy football. That means that players will only sign for us if they want to; we cannot force anyone to sign. As newly promoted clubs are very likely to be relegated that means that quality players would have been reluctant to sign so the Club had to be prepared to offer inducements. One might be a release clause. It is not a criticism of the Club or Mark Ashton, but what has to be done to get deals over the line. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: More Than Likely Town Will Be in the Championship Next Season at 13:22:41
Relegation is upon us for two reasons. 1) Our dire home form, 2) our failure to beat the teams around us. No-one expected us to be thrashing Liverpool or Man City, but we should have been able to beat Southampton home and away. Basically, we weren’t good enough. Recruitment is difficult because proven PL players won’t want to a newly promoted club due to the high chance of relegation (the ones who do will be too old, too injured, etc). Therefore it made perfect sense to sign high quality young talent from the Championship. As for the theory that just because someone played for us in League One they are incapable of doing a job for us higher up, that is just daft; players can improve through good coaching. I very much hope that KMc stays. We should be a good bet for promotion next year as we will have the squad and the parachute money. |

A talented young player who has had rotten luck with injuries. I don’t claim to know his situation, but it may be too harsh to say that it is “all about money”. In 2018 we were a club owned by Marcus Evans who was underinvesting and we were seemingly going nowhere. To have interest from such a successful club as Manchester City with the best facilities and coaching must have been a large factor in his decision. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: A Really Poor Result For Us, a Game That Was There For Us to Win at 19:00:24
I think that KMc is a very good football manager and, even if we are relegated, I would like him to stay in post and build the Club. However, I do not make the decisions. Gamechanger were brutal when Paul Cook did not deliver, how much patience will they have with KMc? He has spent a huge amount of money and, apart from Delap, we have little to show for it. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-2 Southampton - Match Report at 17:26:52
To all those who told me before the match that this was not a must-win game, I would ask you to study the fixture list and tell me which games you expect us to win. You should do so in the following format: “Despite having lost at home to the worst team in Premier League history, I still think that we can beat [insert name of team(s)] because [insert reason(s)].” |
 | News Comment | McKenna: I've Never Labelled a Game Must-Win at 20:57:06
Oh come, come Kieran! Even the dogs in the street know that this is a must-win game. If we can’t beat arguably the worst team in PL history when we are playing at home, who can we beat? If we don’t win this we will be relegated and we will deserve to be. |
 | News Comment | New Job For Lambert Four Years After Town Exit at 14:58:04
I was one of his critics. However, I now feel that some of the criticism may have been over the top, for the following reasons. 1) he was one of a line of failures which included Roy Keane, Paul Jewell, Mick McCarthy, Paul Hirst and Paul Cook. All had been successful with previous clubs, which suggests another factor (such as mismanagement by Marcus Evans). 2) Alan Lee described how chaotic the club was under Marcus Evans. 3) Look at what he had to work with. When his players departed, most of them went to other League One teams or dropped into League Two, which suggests that, if anything, they were overachieving under his management. 4) KMc rightly deserves the praise which has come his way, but he has had the advantages of having an experienced football Chief Executive in Mark Ashton and an ownership which is prepared to spend money on the club, both on and off the pitch. |
 | News Comment | U21s Comfortably Beaten By Charlton at 17:01:46
When we send u-21 players out on loan for experience, they tend to go to clubs well down the pyramid, which is an ominous sign. Only Baggott and Humphreys are anywhere near the first team squad. |
 | News Comment | Al-Hamadi Close to West Brom Loan at 13:12:13
With regard to Al-Hamada, asking him to go from League Two to the Championship in one bound was enormous; asking him then to go to PL level was too far. Tony Mowbray will get the best out of him. With regard to Simpson, it is very sad to see. KMc wanted him to stay, but he thought that the grass was greener elsewhere. He has now dropped from mid-table League One to mid-table League Two. I suppose that he is still young enough to succeed, but his career only seems to be going in one direction. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-6 Manchester City - Match Report at 19:18:03
At the start of the season I did not expect us to take points off the likes of Man City and Liverpool and we haven’t. We do, however, need to beat lower half teams at home. If we don’t take three points off Southampton then we are in trouble. |
 | News Comment | Woolfenden Skippers as Town Make 10 Changes at 15:10:16
Linkboy13: just the other day I was wondering why it is that when we lend out youngsters for development they go to clubs well down the pyramid, such as Chatham Town and Rochdale. I think that you have answered my question. Very sad for a club which used to be able to produce the likes of Butcher, Osman, Wark, etc. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Omari Out For Weeks at 17:32:17
Frustrating, but Szmodics and Broadhead are playing well and it gives Clarke a chance to step up and show what he can do. |
 | News Comment | Liverpool Rebuff Town Doak Bid at 22:52:36
He sounds very talented and a good buy for the future. The trouble is that if we are to avoid relegation then we need someone who can come in and do a job for us now, not in six months’ time. |
