Omari to Leeds would be a tough one to take
at 14:53 30 Apr 2025

I think/hope/pray that given a straight choice between Leeds and us (assuming McKenna sticks around) that Omari would stay for a season at Championship level. Unfortunately think his resolve may be tested by more settled PL teams.

OTD last year… Coventry (a)
at 13:42 30 Apr 2025

Barnsley for me - the importance for both teams, the tension of the first half and then the bang bang of our goals just before half time. Most of all the feeling I’ve finally having done something and seeing 5,000 town there to enjoy it with faces who had been there in the very lowest of lows.

Coventry was amazing (and Huddersfield better than Exeter) but I’ll always hold that day in Barnsley very fondly.

He knows absolutely nothing about anything, least of all how we setup and play.

It was one of those gallows humour type away ends, coupled with us being quite loud and supportive in general and obviously most staying at the end to give them team a send off.

One of those where it was easy for Newcastle fans to say we were good as no real jeopardy in the game, but do think our away support has been good in terms of numbers and noise this year (although admittedly with some terrible song choices at times).

McKenna being linked with….
at 11:00 23 Apr 2025

I heard they were talking to his people back in January but Postecoglou as obviously stuck around. I would think he's behind Iraola and Frank now but don't think it's impossible that they look to hire him. In some ways I suppose that's not the worst outcome as it should at least happen relatively quickly.

What “Rules” does the fixture super computer have?
at 10:46 23 Apr 2025

Seemed to be a relatively recent thing in the lower divisions to have the furthest away fixtures as midweek ones (I think with the intention of protecting Saturday attendances).

Man City have got the wrong official in charge tonight.
at 20:32 22 Apr 2025

Don’t know what Dias is supposed to do - firstly he touches the ball, then tries to get out of the way and Ramsay just runs into him. One that slow motion makes look much worse than it was in real time.

Every right to be annoyed for me, absolute shocker of a decision.

Which contracted players could leave in the summer on top of Delap?
at 10:24 22 Apr 2025

GK - probably a restructure here that sees at least two of Walton/Muric/Slicker leave.

RB: I wonder if somebody will see something in Johnson's resurgence and fancies a punt. Harry Clarke's future probably depends on what Axel ends up doing.

CB: I imagine O'Shea will have suitors, but we might hold firm there.

LB: Leif would be on the radar of a few, however hasn't had a great month or so. Would be an incredible coup to keep him for the Championship again.

CM: Do we say goodbye to Morsy and Luongo this summer? This area needs the most investment from us imo.

RW: Can't really see Ogbene or Burns going given injuries, Philogene is one that maybe consider recouping cash on if they get an offer that allows it (but can't see that).

CAM: Omari will definitely be on a lot of smart Premier League lists. I think we'd look to keep Chaplin and Szmodics for the Championship unless we got offers that we couldn't turn down.

LW: Broadhead has supposedly been close to the exit in the last two windows, but I'd like to see him stay. Clarke will be our main man there next year you feel.

ST: Hirst stays, Delap and Al-Hamadi go.

This £30m release clause?
at 13:37 15 Apr 2025

In the usual meaning of the clause we can't reject any bid greater than £30m so it would seem unnecessary for clubs to chase the value up from that, but some journalists have mentioned that it could happen (I just don't understand how or why because Ipswich wouldn't be able to grant exclusivity to the highest bidder).

One thing that hasn't been discussed/isn't clear is whether this £30m release would also contain profit shares or additional future clauses which could benefit us (and would make Ashton's comments about being well protected a bit more valid.

This £30m release clause?
at 13:18 15 Apr 2025

It's a contract between Delap and the club, I don't think they are going to publish the details of it so this is as close as we'll get (and I posted the TWTD rather than the Guardian one because it adds more weight, not less).

Blues striker Liam Delap’s relegation release clause, which seems certain to be activated this summer, is reportedly £30 million. 107

Great performance
at 18:48 13 Apr 2025

I don’t think Axel had a particularly good game today and Chelsea attempted one dribble down the left hand side today which was Madueke rinsing Burgess to assist the own goal (scored by Axel).

Davis did nothing wrong to be called out individually for anything to do with either the goal or any defensive frailty today (although I think McKenna was pretty pissed for the way he gave away possession before the sub for Townsend).

Potentially our 3 most premier defenders leaving
at 10:07 8 Apr 2025

I think tbh that either:

Axel O'Shea Greaves Davis

or

Johnson Woolf Burgess Townsend

Are good enough first choice defences for Championship level. We'll end up with some combo of the above and it'll be supplemented with good players if needed. Centre midfield and upfront much bigger issues to solve imo.
