Travel to Portman Road from Southend area

I'm a very long term Town supporter since 1970's who remembers all the great times. Having moved south to Essex and given the excitement around the club, I'm seriously considering buying a season ticket for the first time.

What's the best way to travel on Saturdays? I see Rochford to Shenfield then change is good but don't they often close the line on Saturdays for engineering works? Are there any alternatives or even car shares working which I could use? I'm not keen to drive to Ipswich so have ruled that out.

Where would you suggest are the best seats to consider and do season ticket holders sit in their own seats or just in the general area like one off ticket holders?
