If we're getting frustrated with news (or lack of)
at 10:25 4 Aug 2025

I think as fans we over complicate it with the brief snippets of info we get.

We get told Hackney is travelling to Suffolk and everyone assumes he’s agreed everything and he’ll be an Ipswich player within a few hours. Chances are we’ve been having discussions from the back end of last season and now we had a bid accepted, he’s travelled down to have further conversations and take a look around. It sounds like he’s chosen to stay for now but I don’t think McKenna would been gullible enough to think any player is signing just because we’ve had an offer accepted.

In England he was traditionally a CF but he’s played out wide for Ajax quite a bit in a wide 10 position similar to Broadhead.

Would be a good addition.

Not aimed at you specifically but I’m curious as to whether people think transfers are often completed within a matter of hours or days at this time of year.

Fortunately we’re very good at keeping most signings under wraps until completion but most transfers would send people into meltdown if they were publicised as much as Hackneys.

Alternatively he could think if we don’t get promoted he’ll be tied into a long term deal stuck in this division, pushing his Prem hopes back a year or two further.

Or he could have a great start to the season with Boro and potentially get the desired Prem move in Jan.

Hopefully conversations with McKenna went well (which they usually do) and he’ll sign over the weekend.

The point being EADT wouldn’t be publishing it if there was nothing in it.

Yet Sky and EADT both reporting the interest..

I can confidently say he was keen on coming back if a Prem move didn’t materialise back in June.

Offer in for Jens Cajuste

We will be looking for better depth than Taylor & Humphreys.

I wouldn’t rule out another CM joining even after Cajuste and Hackney. A possible loan for a Prem youngster and we then move on one of Taylor or Humphreys.

How do they police it though? I’m yet to see a viable solution.

In fairness if you’ve got young kids that is quite a distance for 90 mins, or an expense if you’re then staying up there.

Definitely the way to go. Just did similar for my wife’s car, monthly payments are slightly less than what PCP would have been and we own the car.

Some of the finance deals these garages offer are insane.

Hadn’t noticed the agent to be fair.

You could well be right regarding the fee & impact.

Looks like Leeds fans are questioning the same thing. Perhaps why we didn’t go for him last summer.

If that’s the case I’d be surprised if we went for him this time around.

Hayden Hackney - Alan Nixon…

Rob Edwards empathised it was a legitimate injury and nothing to do with any transfer. Not that he would admit that but he did seem to go out of his way to say there wasn’t any movement transfer wise.

I was one of those and I never said for a second he couldn’t play a different role. The original suggestion was that he could play the Luongo CM role which I still think is a ridiculous shout.

He’s still a LB but last night his forward runs were underlapping rather than overlapping.

Imagine his role will be quite flexible depending on who is in front of him.

Clarke and Philogene both excellent out wide and part of why Clarke struggled last year was because him and Davis kept tripping over each other. Moving Davis inside looked to have work well with Philogene yesterday.

I imagine if/when Broadhead or Szmodics play there this season we’ll see Davis revert back to the more traditional overlapping role.

All greats options to have.

Does amaze me the amount of people that are happy to sign up to £500pm+ car finance deals and then moan about cost of living. Seems to be so many out there that are more interested in uploading their new but not particularly impressive car for a few insta likes than creating a more affordable life for themselves.

Each to their own and all that I guess.

They were covered up pre Ed (+ possibly before the boxing) and just haven’t taken them down yet.

No new signing unfortunately.

It would be nice to have more bodies through the door at this point but I don’t know what fans were expecting MA and KM to say.

IIRC it was more around knowing what targets they could start those conversations with because we knew we’d be a championship club. That doesn’t mean we would sign players any quicker.

The position we’re in, we’re going to be going for players who are top level Champ / lower Prem who will be hoping to get a premier league move (see Cajuste, Hackney etc). Realistically our only chance of getting these players is if Prem moves don’t materialise, which all takes time.
