I can only imagine it's because we would want to have someone lined up to come in?
I suspect we're happy with the fee and will give the go ahead, once we have a deal lined up elsewhere. |

I'm sure he'll get all the assurances he needs on playing time whilst sat on the bench watching Bissouma, Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall and Gray all start ahead of him. [Post edited 31 Jul 12:43]

If it's a choice between going in to the new season (which is 8 days away) with Hirst & Al-Hamadi or Hirst & McBurnie, then it's the latter and it's not even close. |

I could be going mad here, but I'm sure there was a press conference around October/November last year where McKenna was questioned as to when Broadhead will be back fit and he said he had been fit and training for a number of weeks, but hadn't made the 20 man squad. |

'Cashing in on Hackney will enable the Teessiders to unlock a number of the key incoming deals they have also been working on this month, with a move for a new forward a priority.
A deal for a forward that would involve a significant payment is understood to be at a reasonably advanced stage, and Boro’s recruitment team would hope to make rapid progress on that proposed transfer if Hackney’s departure is confirmed. Talks over a potential deal for free agent Danny Ings also remain ongoing.'

Reading between the lines, it looks like we want a conclusion to this before the season starts. Clearly a deal we’ve been working on for some time.
I think from his perspective, it’s a multitude of things;
1 - PL interest not quite materialising in to offers.
2 - good offer on the table from us, playing under the best manager outside of the PL.
3 - does he wait to see if PL offer arrives? And in that time, Town move on to other targets.
4 - no PL offer arrives, Town move on and he stays at Boro where his stock falls given he’s got to play kick and rush football under Edwards for at least 6 months?
My guess is that Town are pretty confident he’s willing to join, but they want an answer before the weekend to give him a few days training before Brum away. |
