High Wycombe
at 08:48 25 Apr 2025

I work just down the road in Maidenhead. As others have rightly said, High Wycombe itself isn't attractive as a place to live but there are plenty of villages and towns not far away and commutable by car (Thame, Henley, Marlow, Wargrave, Twyford etc) that are great.

Feeling rather gutted and a little down
at 12:07 24 Mar 2025

It will work out just fine, I'm sure of it.

We had an offer accepted on a house about 7 years ago (full asking price). Estate Agent called us a few days later to say someone else had outbid us by £10k and did I want to go back in with a higher offer. I told them to sling their hook, I can be quite principled about these things and am really don't like being messed around.

We had had an agreement and the sellers had broken that.

Fast forward 2 weeks and the same design of house on the same road came on the market. Same price as the original price but this one had a proper extension rather than a conservatory that the first one had. Bought it and still allow myself a smug grin today every time I walk past the first house knowing I got a better house for a lower price.

Keep the faith.

Do you ever think about how long you’ve got left?
at 14:24 5 Feb 2025

Literally just reading this thread and I get a message that a lad I played football with (now in his early 50s) died last night, heart attack, no warnings, just gone.

So in answer to the question, I don't think anyone knows how long they've got left.

Either I’m going mad or something else…..

Post just on X that looked like it was from the official ITFC account saying Philogene had signed a 4.5 year contract for an undisclosed record fee. It disappeared and I can’t find it again. Anyone else see it?

Great news!

Good luck and look forward to seeing you!!

Problems when queueing for home tickets?
at 11:11 7 Oct 2024

Managed to get one. You just need to keep refreshing the screen and they pop up, then have to be super quick to get them in your basket.

Probably took about 50 refreshes and trying and failing to grab tickets before others got them.

Bagged a ticket in Block Y - well posh me.

London Stadium (WHU) - some observations
at 21:05 22 Sep 2024

Not a single pub on the way back to the station. You would have to double back at some point (probably only possible after you’ve been let free in the station) and go back into Westfields for the Bat and Ball, or some other generic bar. It is very much set up for get in, spend your money and b*ugger off home!!.

London Stadium (WHU) - some observations
at 17:34 22 Sep 2024

Made a last minute decision to go to watch West Ham v Chelsea yesterday. Some thoughts on the set up there.

Access is very easy. 10 minute walk from Stratford station. You can clearly tell it’s a purpose built big event stadium. Security is on the outer perimeter and once in you can walk round the whole stadium freely. Literally dozens of food and drink outlets, pretty expensive but marginally cheaper (6.48 v 7.10 for a pint for example) once you scan your ticket to go inside the ground. Even more refreshments inside. More variety indoors too. Burgers are expensive at about £12, with meal deals putting that up to about £18! Found a chicken Balti pie for just over a fiver though which was nice.

You have to save your ticket to your apple wallet or print at home, they didn’t accept showing the pdf on your phone.

Huge stadium, I was in the upper tier and you are a long way from the pitch.

Given there was 60k in attendance, the atmosphere and noise was akin to PR with 14k in attendance. So many day trippers (yes, I know I was one) but my whole area was a sea of late turners up, leave their seat 10 mins before half time, come back 10 minutes into the second half and leave at about 75 minutes. Oh, and for the half and half scarf haters, get your counselling booked in now! The place was a sea of them, with vendors all along the approach to the stadium selling their Chinese wares.

The game itself was poor. Chelsea looked sharp on the counter but WHU were woeful I thought. No shape on attack and once Summerville went off, very little going forward. Antonio looked disinterested. Back line was poorly disciplined, think we may have some joy there. They really struggled against width and pace.

Post game, they’ve really got this sorted. Thousands heading in the same direction were herded thoroughly barriers that were not previously there and amazingly put into place during the game. Bottle necks at the station were avoided by holding the advancing masses with stop/go signs and lines of stewards. Felt like cattle but it did work effectively. Entrance to Westfields was blocked off to force everyone around the perimeter.

All in all, a very ‘corporate sport’ day. Well organised but no real passion from fans or players. Give me PR any day of the week.

Oh, and £65 for a ‘cheap’ ticket directly from WHU.

Kayden Jackson saved my life
at 09:13 4 Jun 2024

That is the most emotionally powerful post I have ever read.

Footballers are often maligned but Kayden seems like such a genuine chap and I wish him all the best for the future. He spent some time talking to my girls and allowing photos with them (who were 12 and 10 at the time) on his Town return to Accrington Stanley a few years ago. It struck me at the time how he may just want to keep his head down and disappear into the ground but he was great.

I'm glad for you Norfolk Blue that he had such a positive impact - not just for you but also for your lad who still has his Dad.

Keep strong fella.
