I wonder what difference the difficulty of the first few games made?

In hindsight, we never got the opportunity to snatch a win or two on the back of the morale from promotion, being slammed with Liverpool and Manchester City first. It's easy to make excuses, but a couple of early wins from easier fixtures might have made a world of difference.
