Not really, life isn't a meritocracy, he "took a small loan of a million dollars" from his wealthy family, crashed a million businesses to the ground- ran scams and met influential people.

Interesting assumption to make that a guy who was earning millions at Citibank in a remarkably successful career would be caught by the bright lights of YouTube…
I don’t know how ofey you are with how the payment system works over there but with his statistics he’s probably making around £5k a month, which is nothing to him due to the wealth he accumulated over his career and investments.
Is there a specific falsehood or half truth you could highlight to me? I’d be interested to see what it is that rings alarm bells for you. |

Must be fake news mate, I’m reliably informed by TWTD that the United States government is totally normal and anyone who thinks they’re fascist is ‘making it up’ and down playing REAL FASCISM.

Quite, not really an equivalence to Gary’s Economics but fair play. Of course you should always take information with a pinch of salt and do surrounding reading and research-

Totally valid, mate - I’m probably immersed in it somewhat more than your average 37 year old because of my job.
I think these chaps will be becoming quite mainstream soon though, Gary’s Economics arguably already is, he had a very successful book and was on Question Time I believe? |

Unfamiliar with this person you mention or the incident you talk of, but I do know Jimmy gets things wrong- he’s not afraid of acknowledging when he’s got things wrong, which is unsurprising seeing as he comes from a place where previously he was indoctrinated into far right ideology. Gotcha, for the record, I was not advocating violence- I was stating a fact, which is that no fascist regime has ever been toppled without violence- people then got their knickers in a twist claiming the demonstrably fascist actions in the United States, that are happening every day, aren’t fascist…
Or that I was claiming Kirk being assassinated would topple the current administration- which obviously is ridiculous.
Appreciate the clarification, I was most certainly vocal in the thread- I let the apologists get under my skin, closest I’ll flirt with the dark side and it’s purely because this stuff *really* matters, is something I’m well read on and feel the weight of daily, due to personal circumstances. Yep, record number of ‘ignores’ handed out by me in last couple of weeks- makes me think about when I used to operate a ‘no blocking’ policy and would just constantly bicker with turnips on here- apologies to anyone who was present ten years or so ago who told me I should block people, I should have listened. It’s much nicer on here without wading through the guff. |

I've just read the whole thread (very depressing) but this is the post of the thread for me. What an awful state of affairs we're living through.
I also watched the creator of Andor, Tony Gilroy, do an interview with Bulwark on my lunchbreak and a good half of it was dedicated to him having to state that he didn't attempt to directly write something that mirrors the times we're living through - he took from multiple examples throughout real life history where fascists and far right powers seized control.
When he was questioned about the politics of the show he said that much like the politics of now it has transcended left and right- it's now about morality.
Misinformation has absolutely poisoned the well and the fear and division sewn and the way "the pace of oppression outstrips our ability to understand it" has put many people into a level of passiveness that is totally counterproductive to fixing this mess.
What on earth are we going to do about all of this? [Post edited 16 Sep 14:23]
