I know the future of humanity is on the line etc etc
at 15:29 29 Apr 2025

...but the White House press conferences/briefings are pure comedy gold. There's no way that political satires would have gone this far - they'd have been accused of being ridiculous.

I think my favourite is the props. They love a prop.

Another pet peeve
at 19:32 20 Apr 2025

I know you didn't even ask for the first one, but...

Why do pundits etc spend all pre-match saying how they expect Arsenal to be a lot better than us and then pretend to be surprised during the game when Arsenal are a lot better than us?

Pet peeve
at 19:28 20 Apr 2025

This is a pointless post, but I *have* to get this off my chest.

Apparently we're basically down because of the goal difference. Nonsense. In the (incredibly) unlikely event that we win 4 straight games and West Ham lose 4 straight games then the goal difference swing will probably mean that if we beat them well on the final day we will stay up on goal difference.

It's obviously irrelevant, but it annoys me when people forget how maths works.

Remember that scene in The Royle Family?

When Ralf Little brings Sheridan Smith home and she's a vegetarian, and they don't know what to feed her. So Nana says "can she have wafer thin ham?"...

...that's what it's been like on here this afternoon talking about Delap.

Just a point of order - maybe one for Phil

Did MA actually say "we're very, very well protected" in relation to Delap? Reading the articles at the time it feels a lot more like a overarching comment relating to the owners etc than the Delap deal in particular - even though most outlets did report it as being about Delap.

Delap could still being the highest scoring British player in the PL this season

Only behind Watkins and Palmer at the moment.

Would be a pretty incredible achievement and replicate what Stewie did in 2001.

Your worst ITFC take
at 11:09 2 Apr 2025

As if often the case when you're losing every week, everyone has their own take on the situation. But what's the worst ITFC take you're willing to admit to?

I'll go first:

I thought Darren Ambrose would get 100 caps for England.

That was the last time we won a 3pm KO at Portman Road.

A year ago today.

This season has been weird.
at 17:07 11 Mar 2025

There are 10 games left, and my overriding emotion is that I'm looking forward to it being over...but there's no doubt that there is something a bit special about the showbiz football in the PL. A bit like going out with a supermodel and their friends every weekend.

Might be nice to have another go in a year or two..?

The money we have spent
at 13:53 27 Feb 2025

Was clearly not spent to prevent relegation, it was spent to bolster the club generally. If your only ambition was to stay up then you'd go and buy/get seasoned professionals, pay them stupid wages and recognise that they'll all be gone if you go down. That's not what we've done, we've bought players to help the club continue to grow. We might not have got all those right of course, but that's another debate.

Relegation season bingo
at 10:55 27 Feb 2025

We've still got a few to tick off on our relegation season bingo sheet, but so far I think we have:

Inexplicably dodgy decisions going against us
Losing when 2-0 up
Having a player sent off when winning and then not winning
Conceding multiple goals in one frantic period
Getting hammered multiple times at home
Conceding late goals
Inexplicably winning games we shouldn't have had a chance with
Bad injury record, including freak injuries
Multiple goalkeepers
Loads of team changes every week
Patronising, ill-formed media nonsense
Managers we've taken points from really confused and/or furious
Failing to beat 10 men
Giving up multiple winning positions
Limp performances in winnable games
Comedy own goals
Waste of money accusations

And the ones we've not ticked off yet:
'Worst team ever' accusations
Manager sacking with limp or no new manager bounce
17 year old academy product saviour that barely plays in future years and disappears
Losing the dressing room/players fighting
Manager calling out the players

Anything I've missed?
