| News Comment | New Sir Bobby Play "Very Inspirational" at 02:18:30
Unfortunately I won't be able to get to the play because I live abroad now, but Sir Bobby had a huge impact on many, many people. I watched the documentary about him on Netflix recently and it brought tears to my eyes several times. When he was the manager of Ipswich I had just moved there and going to watch the team helped me to settle in. I will never forgive certain sections of the media for the disgusting things they wrote about him, calling him stupid and a traitor. If he'd have said to us that it would help if we marched to the next away game so many of us would have gone straight home, put on our coats and dug out a map. |
| News Comment | Lambert: Club Needs to Be Cleansed, it Will Be a Million Times Better for My Strategy Going Forward at 19:30:11
Let's face facts. Wolves lost over 50 million pounds last season and nearly 25 million the season before. Does FFP even exist anymore? Seems not. Can we compete against clubs like that? No, not in the sense of having an owner with that kind of money to gamble, because it still is a gamble, on going up. So we do need to try another way, and that has to be by developing our own players with a few quality signings here and there to provide experience. It worked pretty well for Sir Bobby didn't it? But it does take time so fans will have to be patient. This isn't PL's team yet, but I have every faith that next season it will be, and then we'll see an entertaining team playing entertaining football...and winning games. |
| News Comment | Game Changers on Football Book of the Year Shortlist at 21:03:49
It's an excellent book, I was in my early 20s when they were signed and clearly remember Arnold's debut. He must have wondered what he'd let himself in for. Reading it brought back so many happy memories. What i wouldn't give now to see an Ipswich team half as talented as that one was. |
| News Comment | Spence After First Back-to-Back Wins at 21:13:36
He seems like a really intelligent, grounded guy. In 15 years time, I wonder if we will see him in a manager's role? I like the fact that he has this zen-like approach to criticism and praise, not letting either affect him. |
| News Comment | Preston North End 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 01:42:50
Penguin blue: you talk about Mick's ego but take a look in the mirror. Seems to me yours is bigger: you want to be the person who gets rid of Mick despite not having a clue what happens after. I totally respect the comments from other people who have decided that they can no longer support Mick. But in my opinion anyone who can't or won't support the players wearing a blue shirt should do the decent thing and take their toxic attitude elsewhere. Vote me up, down, left or right I don't care. You're not a Town fan. |
| Blog Comment | Where Are We Now? at 09:33:57
A serious blog, well-argued. I would like to add some thoughts....a decision to change the manager would almost certainly mean no further additions to the squad. If MM goes then i very much doubt a replacement has been lined up. Even if someone was appointed in a week or so then they would want to judge what they have here already and that's the transfer window over. In any case, who is available? We've tried experienced managers with little success and any club doing well in the lower leagues is hardly going to let their manager leave to join us unless we can offer a substantial incentive. Even then it's a risk: the championship is a tough league and a big step up for an inexperienced manager. It seems very few managers favour skill over work-rate. Keane certainly didn't; Jewell, well, I was never sure what he wanted from the team, and think how often Reuser, who could turn a game with one piece of brilliance, would be in one week and out the next under Burley. For me it seems the choices are....keep MM and actually fund his transfer targets, or let him see out the season and then replace him. Could a new manager get more out of this squad if we change now? That would be a gamble.... And as for getting ME to part company with us, of course that depends on whether someone out there with the necessary cash wants to buy the club. I don't see a queue forming. |
| News Comment | Currie: Moore Not Just a Target Man at 04:35:51
He was great, he could turn a game with his skill. I used to love watching Reuser for the same reason; just so entertaining to watch. Oh and Radlett Blue, I was born in Borehamwood and used to work in Bishops supermarket in Radlett in the 70s as my Saturday job. Now that IS old! |
| News Comment | Chambers: Douglas Abuse Unwarranted and Unacceptable at 18:21:59
Give Knudsen the abuse instead? Here's a novel thought- why not try encouraging the players so they can play with a degree of confidence? If a player tries his hardest then that's all they can do. It's not their fault if they aren't quite up to it, they don't pick the team. How is booing a player going to help? |

bbg...good, well balanced article. It's so easy to call for a new manager when things aren't going so well, but I remember fans giving Bobby Robson stick and us not doing so well in the league at times under him. The people who want to change the manager have every right to do so and express their opinions. But let's have a look at how that could go: a new manager from a lower league team? Tried that with John Duncan...didn't work out that well. An experienced manager with a proven track record? Like Paul Jewell or Roy Keane? Suppose we did sack MM, what do people think will happen? It would take at least a week or two to appoint someone. Then, presumably, they would want to have a look at the squad. And that's the transfer window gone. Just as January is a poor month to buy players, it's equally not a great time to get rid of a manager. If MM is to go, doesn't it at least make sense to wait for the end of the season? I think MM is far shrewder than Lots of posters give him credit for. He knows his job depends on getting results so sends out a team he feels has the best chance of winning a game. we don't get to see them training, or know who is carrying an injury or is having a bad time in their personal life. But that's the thing about football: we all have opinions and like to express them. Just sometimes, though, take a step back and think objectively. Oh and another thing, we might all want Marcus Evans to put more money in. But the fact is, it's his club and his money. Unless there are a queue of people wanting to buy it off him then we are hardly in a position to criticise his investment. If someone told us how to spend our cash then I suspect the answer we'd give would be less than polite. And bbg, thanks again for taking the time to write your blog. Maybe MM should go, maybe not. It's everyone's right to express their opinion and no one's view is any less valid than anyone else's. |
| News Comment | McCarthy and Connor Watching Arsenal U23s at 12:56:54
I was born in borehamwood and moved to Ipswich when I was 18. By the time I moved to nz leaving my beloved itfc was the hardest of all. I still have a season ticket even after 6 years here. |
| News Comment | Milne: Points Deductions Might Make Clubs Take "Farcical" FFP Seriously at 21:54:54
The Football League have been shown to be as big a bunch of spineless, useless, incompetent fools it's our misfortune to have running the game. If you want to see how to implement FFP look at the sanctions placed on the Paramata Eels in rugby. Loss of points, sacking of individuals and massive fines. Either have FFP and enforce it or do away with it, admit you failed and resign. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Huge Result at 19:02:15
Iaintaylorxx:"not being negative "....It might be just me, but saying it's disgusting to watch, I dunno, that could be considered to be slightly negative, don't you think? |
| News Comment | Knudsen Set for Medical at 11:00:46
Totally agree with Len_Brennan. I live in NZ and I am always checking for updates. I love my team, I still have my season ticket and transfer news still excites me even though I Know it's unlikely that I will see any live matches this season. Ipswich is a special club, it has it's integrity back and we are going to have a great season. We have some real talent in the squad and a manager who has forgotten more about the game than most people learn in a lifetime. Football and ITFC....it's in our blood! |
| News Comment | Blues Again Linked With Austin at 22:47:59
Are the days of getting good, inexpensive Dutch players, who all seem so comfortable on the ball, gone? Imagine what a player like Reuser would add to our team. I guess everyone is looking for talent in Europe now, but in the past we have had some real gems, and they could turn a game. |
| News Comment | Hallelujah! Skipper's Delight at Murph's New Deal at 06:28:26
...And that, in my opinion, is why Chambers is a great skipper. I wouldn't want to be seen slacking in front of him if I was a young player, and he epitomises the excellent attitude in the squad now that the likes of messrs Chopra and Taylor have gone. Let's be realistic, we don't expect our players, in the Championship, to be world beaters, but we as fans do expect them to try their hardest each time they play. Under Mick M that's what we get, and it looks like the current squad is stronger than last season so it is all looking very promising. If we finish one place higher each season I would be happy, but this year I truly think the extra pace gives the team more options and we can shoot for the top. Exciting times ahead, and I love that team! |
