Tuanzebe Switches International Allegiance to DR Congo
at 11:18:24

What's wrong with that choice? It's great for him. Chance to play at the African Nations. Have a whole different experience playing international football in Africa. Gets to hang out with Wissa, Mpanzu, Kayembe, Diangana on the plane, and still gets to wear blue! What's not to like?

Preston North End 3-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:10:49

Always gonna be Jackson's fault when the whole team weren't at the races first half.

Preston manager being ex-Plymouth has played us a few times now in Division One and clearly had done his homework, about our strengths and weaknesses. Didn't allow us any time on the ball first half and snapping into tackles. We weren't on our toes and they were superior to us in their desire to win the ball, and that of course was shown when we're playing it out of the back as well. The players should have learnt to adapt in game to how Preston were pressing and going at us, but it took til half time for McKenna to get into their heads and understand what was needed to get back in the game.

Everyone was off it first half. Sarmiento dwelling on the ball, Luongo and Morsy not moving it fast enough, too many players high up the pitch leaving Edmundson exposed, and Leif and Burns not creating space to beat their men. Ref shouldn't have given them the first goal because of the foul and second off side, but still Preston players made it a scrap on a messy pitch, and did the basics well, getting to the ball first and showing desire.

All of that is not Kayden's fault.

Kieffer Moore was only in the building a few days, and Al Hamedi not much longer, so McKenna was probably sensible to start with Jackson. The lad didn't get the ball enough to do anything. It's not just on him as people always look to blame him for anything that doesn't go well.

Second half McKenna made some adjustments and we were alot more on the front foot, Omari made a ton of difference, as did Moore having that presence up front.

The whole team were poor first half, and couldn't sort it between them. McKenna tweaked and we were alot better. Shame that by then we'd conceded three. An annoying day at the office, but let's be fair and say the team weren't at the races the first half, the ref wasn't at the races first half, and Preston played to their strengths on a cut up turnip field of a pitch, and hats off to their manager who did his homework. We have the best manager in the division, but not the only manager who can get the best out of what he has at his disposal.

Moore will no doubt start against West Brom and I'll look forward to it, but I refuse to throw Jackson under the bus every time the team doesn't play well.

Great to have our first player from Iraq at the Club! Ecuador....Iraq.... Things are starting to spice up now!

Just need a young Argentinian who's similar to Sixto Peralta & another Pablo Counago.

When we were at Wimbledon the other week, all the talk was of their best player not being there to play us in the Cup. We know who that guy is.

Welcome to ITFC Ali. Let's hope you have a fantastic career with us.

Ipswich Town 1-2 Maidstone United - Match Report

Believe it or not Carberry I was sober as a judge! I get fuelled by watching people over react and lose the plot. One game where we could have been 3-0 up after 15 mins, and we managed to lose the game. It happens sometimes! We've been playing out of our skins for 2 years. Let's get behind the team and keep the belief that they have.

Yeh but TexasTom when you spout nonsense like this you sound like Texas homeboy George W Bush - 'Ipswich can’t handle pressure and players go missing or don’t perform. It is a a Club Characteristic, but today was just shocking'.

Yeh labelling this bunch of players and manager as part of a tradition of Ipswich teams that 'go missing'. Yeh we've really been bottling it last season when we won all those crucial games and scored all those goals to get promoted, and we've continued that same shocking club characteristic of being Second in the Table again this season. This Ipswich team really can't handle pressure...Come on mate. They've proved it time and again that they can.

& then that this game would put kids off for life who'd come to watch Ipswich for the first time..
It's like Children in Need on here. Everyone worried for the young folk for what they had to witness.

Like kids are gonna be scarred for life from watching Omari and Sarmiento torment their defence and run rings around their defenders. If I was a kid watching that game today I'd be lovin' watching those two in action, and would have enjoyed the great atmosphere from being at a Cup game. These kids don't have the same monkeys on their backs that some of you guys do.

Embarrassing?

Most of your guys should be embarrassed about yourselves and take a long hard look in the mirror.

Knee Jerk reactions from fans who so quickly forget how brilliant we’ve been under McKenna and how we got promoted from League One to now sit in the Championship in 2nd place having lost only 3 League games nestled between Leicester & Southampton/Leeds.

I understand we have loads of Boomers/ Old Timers too in love with the romance of the FA Cup. Don’t worry, I love the Cup too, but I’m not about to lose it about a game where we played well for a fair amount, but weren't clinical. I spent most of the game having to listen to a bunch of right old moaners around me, picking holes in everything we did even though we were peppering their goal.

Was it really that embarrassing to have 78% possession and 38 shots, but get hit on the break by the opposition's two shots?

Prebbs007
“A few of them should be sacked…went to King Power on Monday and was so proud. Today I’ve never been so embarassed. A number of these idiots need replacing”

Not Knee Jerk at all there? Proud of your team on Monday and now a few days later you want to put them up against the wall and shoot them all?

TractorBoyBig -
"The worst result and performance of ITFC in it’s history”

Really? The Worst Performance in ITFC History? Did you watch any of those games when Alan Judge was running around like a headless chicken and our team looked totally bereft of ideas during the pandemic? I think you may have missed a fair few eras at Portman Road after the Robson Glory years in there somewhere.

Bezzer ‘ “I’d question our management team…why don’t they show some emotion on the touchline”

Yeh Bezzer…why don’t we question Kieron McKenna and his team who’ve won promotion with us and taken us to 2nd in the Championship on our first season back in it.

As for all you numerous pant soilers such as TexasTom, Len Brennan, BlueSkies (change your name to Grey Clouds). Take a breath guys. Yeh we lost a game of football that we dominated for a fair chunk, and yes we shouldn’t have, but come on. You’ve all seen enough games to know that some days Lady Luck doesn’t shine on your side. We could have been 3 or more up in first 15 mins playing some great football and for a fair chunk of the game , and the ball refused to go into the net on far too many occasions. They scored with 2 chances on the break. Smash and grab.

It happens sometimes in games like when we frustratingly lost to Lincoln last year. Team parks the bus, score on the break and then just block every shot possible to prevent us scoring. We’ve scored goals when we’ve needed to like both games home and away against Leicester when we could so easily have lost. At Watford where we came back and won… Today we were the better team, bossing the possession and game and got sucker punched on two goals, and they bravely defended for their lives. It happens sometimes, and I’d rather take 6 points against Preston and Sunderland, than dwell on not making the next round of the FA Cup. As much fun as it would be to play in the last 16.

JewellintheTown talking rubbish when he said “So many looked outclassed at times by Maidstone”. Outclassed? Really? His point on watching his TV and commenting on hearing Maidstone fans and not ours, was because this was a massive game for them.

If there would have been a quicker uptake and more appetite for the game from our regular season ticket holders & fans, then we wouldn’t have needed to give them the charity of the upper tier and 4500 tickets. That’s naive of the club. If you want to progress and you want to bring more money into the club from making the next round, don’t give the opposition the chance to have a crowd so loud and behind them when playing away, that it spurs on the players. If we’d have just given them the usual amount, they wouldn’t have had a chance to drown us out.

This was a game attended by a lot of people who don’t normally got to games, and where people end up sitting next to people they wouldn’t usually sit next to, so no wonder there isn’t the same collective atmosphere behind the team as normal.

At least everyone was classy enough to clap the Maidstone manager at the end of the game, when he came past and gave his respect to the North Stand.

McKenna made a booboo by taking off Sarmiento and Hutchison who were both the class acts on the day, Burns should never have cut off his hair like Samson, & we should have scored far more of our numerous chances.

Thanks to the likes of SaxonBlue74 , FreddySteady , JoyousBlue & Steve ITFC Sweden for keeping some perspective, and not being so knee jerk and silly as others.

People soiling their pants and obsessing on our need for a striker.

Yes we need a new striker to cover Hirst, Ladapo and Scarlett not being around. We all know that. Us repeating it isn’t gonna solve anything. McKenna, Ashton and co are fully aware & are no doubt trying their hardest to nail the reinforcements.

We’re a fantastic team this season and last thanks to the belief and philosophy installed by McKenna who’s been a godsend. Let’s take the lessons from today, regroup and go and get the win up at Preston.

Jackson: We've Been Robbed
at 00:22:55

I knew their big number 8 was gonna get sent off. That early yellow and the fact that he was a lanky old lump, he was never gonna go the 90 without another incident.

I have to say it was one of the most relaxing games to go to. Never felt like we were gonna have any problems after the first goal went in. Just managed the game from there. Old school with the keeper kicking it long all game. Never interested in playing it out from the back.

Johnnie Jackson bless him, just trying to keep the Womble fans fired up and believing in the team.

Great day out though, and enjoyed the trip to the Cherry Red Stadium!

Yeh I've liked him whenever I've seen him play for Brighton. Has plenty of skills to bamboozle a defender. Came on for the last 20 mins against us at West Brom and looked good then as well. Would be a welcome addition to draw defenders to him and create space for others.

Interesting few weeks ahead in the transfer window and a chance for McKenna to find give some players a rest and get them back on the training field with some decent time to bed some things in at Playford Road.

If we got to Jan 1st still in second, then we were always going to go and look to bring in players up the ante for a crack at the Prem. The Owners wouldn't be able to help themselves, and it just makes sense to do so. We should be able to attract a strong calibre of players, and though gutting to not have Hirst for the whole season, a key player was always gonna pick up an injury at some point. Sadly it's George, and not it opens it up for us to bring in someone to be that will suit the team for second half of the season. We had Hirst in our sights for a while, & I'm sure we have others that we've been keeping a keen eye on.

Today was the classic rainy winter game like Huddersfield where it's harder to play our football. The approach play picked up, but missed that final ball or touch of inspiration. Omari needs space and to be one on one to show what he can do, Burns wasn't getting past his man today and didn't have Clarke/JD behind him to offer that back up. Once they parked the bus with 10 men, it made it harder rather than easier, as many of our goals come with that bit of extra space from a team intent on attack.

Play Walton/JD /Axel/ Edmundson/ Humphreys/ Ball/ Taylor/ Aluko/ Harness/ Omari/ Ladapo against AFC Wimbledon, giving Humphreys some more game time in that left back position, and a chance for Omari to get his confidence back up & Taylor to get his mojo working, and rest all our major first teamers for Sunderland game.

We'll hopefully have some fresh faces in to learn the Mckenna way on the training field in the coming weeks, and have a new striker to try out against Sunderland alongside the usual band of Merry Men.

2nd at New Year....Pretty amazing right? What a year...let's rest up and train hard, with some new acquistions to push on for the Prem!

McKenna: Hirst Set For Surgery and Out For Most of the Season
at 18:47:25

Real shame as George is integral to how we play, and has been a great signing for us. We've done well with injuries first half of the season, so something had to come at some point. Just a pity it's a player who is one of the first inked into the starting XI. The only saving grace is it comes at a time we can go out and find a replacement for second half of the season in our promotion push.

Wagner: A Deserved Point

The guy's a wordsmith! Can't really say in a Derby when they got a lucky draw, that his team were lucky. He has to try and keep his fans onside and take what positives he can & spin it that spirit and hard work is worthy of a point. Covers over the fact that as a manager he is leagues behind Mckenna, and doesn't know how to implement a style of play to match what we have now

Burns: There Were Moments We Needed to Be More Clinical
at 02:53:46

Burns called it right. Should have been out of sight and then collectively switched off for their goals. No particular player should be blamed. We attack as a team and defend as a team. To see their fans celebrating like they'd won the league, shows how glad they were to head home with a smash and grab point.

Ipswich Town 2-2 Norwich City - Match Report
at 02:50:16

The players like the fans got a bit too excited today, and left their shooting boots behind in the first half. Some great chances for Broadhead and Burns before they both got their goals.

Should have been out of sight really, and then sloppy defending let them come back into it both sides of half time. Collectively switched off. Don't get why all the blame is being levelled at Woolfie. It was collectively pretty poor for their goals, but overall we were by far the superior football team.

Was surprised they didn't press at all til later in the first half. You'd think after Vlad's mistake the other day they'd try and create a wobble, but they were just sitting back letting us dictate proceedings & outside of set plays, didn't look like a team with a sense of style or philosophy.

We got 3 points when I'd have been happy with a draw the other night, when Watford were a real threat, and we got 1 point today when we were the superior team and should have put them to the sword. These things even out, just would have been nice to have not been in this game! Onwards to Leeds and let's go get 3 points from them instead!

Rotherham United 2-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 23:44:48

Haven't commented for while, as don't always need to when we're flying high and I've just been enjoying how well we've been playing. Knew that we might be in for some stick on here tonight as people will be getting twitchy after 2 draws, but come on, we were the better football side & have won some games we could have lost in shoot outs against Cardiff/ Blackburn etc. 71% possession, just with less of the end product tonight. The last 20 you could visibly see us take it up a level. Fitness kicked in and we upp'd the pace and precision. It just looked a matter of time before we scored and we did. The annoyance from everyone wouldn't have come into play if we'd not have conceded near the end. Yes bitter pill to swallow, but we've scored enough late goals against teams.
They were only going to score from head ping pong / a set piece or a long throw. Shame that we gave them that chance, but overall we were the best team and will continue to show that in games.
Hirst getting stick when only a few games ago he scored a great goal at home to Plymouth & he holds the ball up beautifully and causes defences all manner of problems. Poor Jackson always gets stick. He's Mckenna's Marcus Bent. Always the easiest for fans to point the finger at. Our points haul surpasses even our wildest dreams at this stage and we showed the resilience to come back at wet and miserable Birmingham, at wet and miserable Huddersfield, and again tonight in Rotherham. There are gonna be games against less classy football teams, and we might struggle more in them than when playing a Leeds, Blackburn or Sunderland.
Rest up lads and get back on it Saturday at home to Swansea. Hopefully the sun will be shining and we can pass the ball around the Portman pitch the wonderful way that has put smiles on our faces all season long. Up the Town!
