Couldn't give really a rat's ass for Vardy or his final celebration appearance, it's little use to me or anyone at Portman Road, however Leicester used the hype of the occasion to raise their game today and beat what was effectively a poor display from us and chasing the game. If it had been a standard game with just relegated teams and no one-player picked out for hero status we maybe would have won / used it to our advantage. Both teams are down and out, you take the Vardy hype nonsense out from it, it's essentially a bitch fight over 18th position and two club names that have endured a disastrous season. There's really little to no honor for either. I won't lie in being irritated by McKenna once again. Same formation, same poker face interview, devoid of emotion almost, it never seems to change. Yeah he's done great for us but another whole season ahead of the same system and beliefs ? I don't know, just not entirely pleased with it. |

They like to fight don't they. Being competitive is one thing but their style of play was too belligerent for some. Shame really, they seem a good team this season but decided today was better equipped to manhandle our players in order to gain a result. Still, After 100 plus years of team history obscurity they're on the verge of accomplishing something, at least when they're able to play. Second period was an improvement from us, really wanted that equalizer goal but it wasn't to be. Games at Portman Road have been a big disappointment this season, can't understand why we've failed so many times or victories haven't arrived as they should. Today was scrappy, inconsistent, maybe the best team won, however all this was blurred by frequent off the ball incident and referee intervention. I think if the team had been still fighting a relegation battle I'd make more of an issue of it, however our fate was sealed long before this contest was underway. Popular to contrary belief it's unlikely we'll make another automatic promotion finish next season. The past nine months have been a letdown, we're too easily picked off and exposed to opposition teams. Guess it'll be a smoother ride back amongst second league defenses and weaker caliber opposition club names. |

Outplayed, outthought and outmaneuvered. They were the better team and you can't dispute the result. 1 win in April from all games at Portman Road this season tells it's own sorry ass story. It's all well and good the 30,000 who attend pretty much each time for it but they haven't exactly had value for money this season. McKenna can't coach at top level league, that's the simple truth of it. Performed wonders at Championship and League One, he did great and then some, but a fish out of water for EPL standard. There's no need to bring in a new manager as whoever is in place from August we simply won't be able to replicate the success of last year i.e. McKenna or not there won't be no automatic promotion next time around. We tried to run before we could walk back at top league level and it fell to pieces. There's a whole list of factors as to why we're destined to drop back at first attempt including McKenna knows no other way than 4-2-3-1 to start games, too defense minded, makes bizarre or lousy substitutions, the purchase and fielding of Muric was an epic blunder, the defense throughout has been sub-standard, and not to overly condemn, but the team loses focus at critical moments and perhaps above all else, just hasn't been good enough to compete back at top level. Today just encapsulated a poor ineffective season. Some can or will brush the excuses under the rug but there's no real getting away (from that) we have been, and are, simply not of the quality to once again be part of the EPL set-up. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-4 Nottingham Forest - Match Report at 02:14:09
It's hard to say a bad word against McKenna. After all if not for him we wouldn't even be a Premier League club name once more HOWEVER he simply can't cut it at top league level. Maybe we'd have had more of a fighting chance if the manager didn't select the same start formation time and again, (why insist on one lone attacker in games of this nature where goals and victory is absolutely essential) Not only that he makes bizarre sub changes, bringing players on to the field where it's too late to make a difference or some there should be involved from the start but are never utilized. Mckenna's done great, but the man's 110 per cent frustrating if not bizarre. The defense we got is a disaster. 30 years back we went down and took a moment to wonder if the players we possess directly between goal and midfield are really any better or competent than back then. That's one thing that's really killed us this season, there's just no ability to defend. Playing one in attack again and again and again, you add that to the mix, no wonder it's been a struggle. Nottingham Forest aren't really a favorite team right now, that's twice in as many weeks they've done us and kind of a relief we won't have to play them again. In truth the whole season thus far has been a big disappointment. If McKenna were to type up his resume and take it to another employer this summer there won't be no real hard feel or regret to it. |

That has to have been one of the best opportunities to have won in again since '78 this season what with the teams remaining and we lose out to a lousy penalty shoot contest. Frustrating doesn't really come close, it's a shame, it's a pity, perhaps above all else it's a missed opportunity. Can't fault the manager or players, a strong team was picked and we gave it a go. Years back under different managers we would have gave up without trying but this time at least we showed commendable courage and determination. It was just one player at the end of it all with a poor penalty effort that cost us but you got to spare thought for the player involved. Such a shame the team has to go out after such a determined effort. If the players put enough effort and focus into league games we wouldn't be where we are or at least in with a very good chance of surviving a relegation. Unfortunately now nothing much remains except to avoid the last relegation slot behind Saints and LCFC. If we had won today it would have provided extra morale for the rest of season, something else to shoot for, and there's just a feeling of dismay to have been beaten in the manner we were. Brighton Hove Albions would have been tough for sure in Round 6 but we went to a team today challenging also for a European place and held them to a tied game over 120 minutes. Therefore all things were possible. Fortunate enough to recall and witness Town being an FA Cup winning club name but got to ask oneself : is it to repeat again in this lifetime. The honest answer being No. Proud and encouraged by todays performance and that we didn't actually lose the game in regular or overtime, but that we went out and can't continue, hell it does sting to a certain extent. |
 | News Comment | Aston Villa 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 17:51:53
Fine score, an encouraging result from a tough trip. We got the making of a good team really. Not going to be challenging the upper reaches of the league but collectively a fine squad of players that when they all pull together can or should have the capability to avoid the bottom three by final game. Palmer looks a real fine acquisition but can't pass judgment on one or two appearances alone. If it keeps Muric away from the start team then it's all good. Hirst back involved can only add strength to existing qualities but maybe wonder why more activity wasn't done in the last transfer window opportunity. Some players we have on board right now are surely surplus but guess it'll be end of season before any real clearout is undertaken. Wish Exeter would have been next opponents in the Cup also, it would have provided a real good chance of going further but on the basis of today we can give Notts Forest a game at their own stadium. |
 | News Comment | AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Ipswich Town (4-2 on pens) - Match Report at 02:22:26
This should have been a very good opportunity to progress to further rounds taken in context the nature of the opposition but it's us against lower league in a Cup tournament game - more often than not there's only going to be one winner. It's a frustrating score but how often do we f-ck up against teams like this we ordinarily should be beating when the time arises. Imagined lessons would have been learned after the Maidstone debacle only a few months back but here once again discussing another Town elimination to inferior opponents. I'm real tired of it by now if not disappointed of course but it happens so often, by now it's really nothing new. We put out a strong team also. No extra 30 minutes which may just have seen us through, they have to go straight to a penalty shoot to pick out a winner. This competition's lame now, they've picked so many holes in it and further devalued what was already a third-rate tournament it's perhaps just as well we're no longer involved. I just would have hoped for more from the team selection put out and the caliber of opponents that stood before us. Sh-t competition it may be, but the chance was there to progress and would have added some further early season morale if could have made it through. Hate cup games involving us and lower league opponents as so often these things happen. It's a mystery to some why we so often struggle to get past these rounds and opponents. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-0 Watford - Match Report at 03:31:17
Another Blankety Blank. Too many more of these, the only thing the team will win this season is a checkbook and pen. Can't hide disappointment in successive failures to win or take only 1 point from an available 6 but we've provided such a platform with games remaining the auto promotion objective is still very much within reach. Nearest rivals dropping points was crucial but we really shouldn't be so dependant on others. It's a shame we got games coming up against teams really needing wins themselves, makes our job twice as hard to get out the league but when you add it all up it's been easily the best season in 20 years plus and we've become an established club name once again. After years of embarrassment and disarray we've put together an exciting team set-up on the verge of once again accomplishment. Previous ownership and managers very nearly sent us into oblivion so guess count your blessings and enjoy what's going on at the club right now. One point from tonight seems inadequate given the nature of opposition with a home advantage but in fact Watford came close to stealing it late on and on the basis of the second period at least, seemed to show character and we were made to battle for it. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 3-2 Bristol City - Match Report at 02:50:52
There's a belief and resilience within our team right now that's been clearly lacking from seasons before. This club name is promotion material once again and we're enduring one of the very best spells within the last 20 years. Without McKenna and Game Changer all this would not have been possible, you can take a moment to wonder where we'd be had Evans remained in ownership / Lambert / Cook/ McCarthy been allowed to continue but guess best not to ponder such things. Nearly a full crowd once more, a victory and great end to end entertainment although would have been hell for those there during the final 15 minutes. It's only a shame both Leeds and Leicester got wins also but from our own perspective this is shaping up to be another very exciting season finish with possible glory at the end of it once again. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-2 Maidstone United - Match Report at 02:47:46
I've been part of some adverse cup scores and setbacks involving this club name but today kind of delivered it to new lows. Reached something of an absolute nadir regards disbelief / embarrassment / disappointment (delete as applicable) Can't quite understand how the team lost. Put out a strong team and with a home advantage, over 90 minutes it should have been a straight-forward win but somehow managed to lose. Resentment and hurt doesn't really cover it. Best course of direction here is to move on, brush it under the rug and out of sight. Does no good to dwell on the shortcomings from it, it's upsetting if not damn bizarre but we've been been beaten many times before by lower league opposition in games of this nature. only thing this time being Maidstone seem so far below us in league structure and such an unrecognized name it just appears far more prevalent than past setbacks. The best way the team and McKenna can redeem themselves from this mess is to deliver top league / EPL soccer for us in a few months from now. The fans from today for sure deserve something back. |
 | News Comment | Leicester City 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 02:44:21
Two games against arguably top team in the league and we held our own and avoided defeat both times. Scored late to get those results but we did it all the same. Not sure how other people feel about it but right off the bat, got to say that's commendable. We're on course for A promotion. Maybe it won't happen, maybe we'll miss out, but it won't be through lack of trying. The team should surely make top six at least although our past record in those end of season games kind of leaves a concern. We're surely stronger than back then (1997 - 2005) and now with a very competent team coach also so you got to keep faith something can be done. we took a trip to the top team, took a point from it and all that with key players out and apparently not playing so good for at least one full period of play. With pivotal names to return and continued belief and consistency you can believe we'll be in with a fantastic chance of making it. (Continued) Cup run from the fifth round also, it's lining up to be a real good season in truth. |
 | News Comment | Leeds United 4-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 03:21:24
They wanted it more and we didn't perform, it's pretty simple math. Came out with intent and while we weren't intimidated or necessarily overrun the players just didn't seem up for it. It's a shame and regrettable but we still got a 7 point advantage over them and guess Southampton. Some of their players seem to go down real easy, penalty decision was maybe tough on us but the game was effectively over by that stage of event. Getting a result with Leicester is now more pivotal than ever, we're going to have to play far better and improve if to take three points from it. Don't so much crave first place and the title, second gets a promotion for us and just remember only a year back we were third league level. That's got to be a remarkable achievement just by itself. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-2 Norwich City - Match Report at 02:21:24
Seems the most important thing from today for them was stopping us from winning / allowing the unbeaten streak to remain intact. Just appears the be all and end all for a lot of their fanbase. Almost like the highlight of an entire season thus far just came down to preventing us victory. So we didn't win and you stole a point from it, big deal. Let's see who's laughing by final game of season. We should have been comfortably ahead by the time Broadhead scored first but when luck's not on your side you just got to suck it up. Burns not for the first time proved savior and there were clear examples once again elsewhere of why we are where we are. Forget the draw, they got real lucky and took a point from it but fact of matter being we're far more equipped to gain a promotion than they could now hope for. Wagner may well be fired some time soon, today bought him some time but they escaped defeat by our missed chances, while McKenna can only improve here and get better. Disappointed but got to say any positives from the game should outweigh the negatives. |
 | News Comment | Crewe Alexandra 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 01:24:39
Two or three new managers, new ownership, 20 + new players coming in, and all this since last summer. But we're going to finish mid-league once again and accomplish nothing. Isn't there a saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same ? If there isn't, there should be. bottom line here is easy. McKenna has done well thus far but the team has so many deficiencies particularly in attack we can never hope to challenge unless things are radically improved. today was a poor result for sure. Crewe have nothing to play for as with ourselves but really we should be taking care of these caliber of opponents. Should feel frustrated maybe even anger but kind of feel there's nothing really new here. |
 | News Comment | Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 00:37:14
Defense and Walton together, probably Championship status, our attacking options : League Two it would seem. Stands to reason we're stuck in the League we're at. McKenna has done well, real new horizon for the club name since coming in and we're streets ahead since Evans and Lambert took off but bottom line the strikers we have appear sub-standard. Any team that views or hopes to challenge a promotion needs a 20 + goal striker a season (or two for good measure) and we don't possess it. Real disappointment the season appears over now. Certain players have performed well, earned a salary, but others have been nowhere near good enough. That's why we've failed. A real goal scorer in the summer and Walton and McKenna stay on, there's every chance next year we can this time crack it. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-1 Cambridge United - Match Report at 02:42:04
it's tough trying to post anything without some piece of sh1t advertisements getting in the way of things so keeping it short. Let's just agree on today being a major setback in the teams goal of finishing in a top six position. Never believed we could lose to these opponents, not with a home advantage and 12 or 13 games without defeat but McKenna seemed to make a significant error with the squad deployment out there. Seems we started with only Norwood in attack, why the hell so in a game of this nature where all out offense would have been the best chance of taking something from it. Crap linesmen, dubious decisions cost us today. Guess a loss had to occur at some point along the track after all those games unbeaten but it shouldn't have been today and against this level of opposition Bottom line we're just not scoring enough. Attack, is, and has been, toothless too often. That's the one factor that will ultimately cost us for this season. |
 | News Comment | Morecambe 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 02:49:06
you can argue it's four points dropped in the last two games. No team has a divine right to victories but over 180 minutes played against that caliber of opposition the team should have won at least one of them. we don't lose often now, we got a better defensive record since Cook left and while McKenna has done mighty fine work since coming in a number of previous problems remain. Always insist a promotion place is beyond us, said it since last fall and the belief remains. If only we had a pair of competent forwards the team could really have accomplished something by end of season. today was frustrating. We've improved without question but don't possess enough ruthless instinct. |
 | News Comment | Wigan Athletic 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 03:21:33
To get a point there is a good score. Starting with two in attack was a right move, had Cook been coach today that would not have occurred. Maybe it wasn't the best of games or any advert for the league but we seemed to improve second period after being behind and people say the team were good for a point. McGreal should be allowed the rest of the season now. Wait until next summer and make the appointment when a better range of candidates may be available. He's got nothing to lose, we're not going to be promoted so simple math is give him the reigns until May and allow it the opportunity. May just surprise one or two maybe. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-1 Crewe Alexandra - Match Report at 01:26:26
What manager plays 4-2-3-1 at home against a bottom place team when you're - us -looking for a promotion push. Does Cook know any other way, seriously starting to fray the patience now. All right the team won, got three points, but by god seems we made hard work of it and the opposition might just have easily forced a tie or taken a point back from their trip. You can't base a season on one game alone but setting up that usual formation given the nature of the opposition and with a home advantage then going on to miss a number of chances and lo and behold allowing your opponents to very near take a score from it is arguably unsatisfactory. Seems Cook made some bizarre substitutions / tactics also at times today. You can only berate one individual so much but somehow can't see him surviving here by end of May. He's arguably the (what should be) most pivotal figure in helping the club make "progress" and as such, isn't really up to standard. |
