Baffling the anti McKenna stuff creeping in
at 02:50 19 May 2025

There's clear hostility towards the manager now prevalent, more so as the adverse results have continued back at top level and nothing seems to change. You can understand the frustrations.

Maybe some were expecting more from the season. I mean 1 win at Portman Road all season long and not many other away from it, that's poor from us, in fact you could go so far to say it's unacceptable or embarrassing. Wasn't expecting overly great things on the return back, there was unlikely to be no repeat of 2001 with Burley, but didn't imagine it would be quite as poor as it turned out to be.

McKenna's the club coach here. Picks the team, organizes training methods, deploys formations, substitute choices and does at the interval what needs to be said whenever a game needs to be turned around. Some would argue he's failed certain obligations or hasn't simply met demands of a higher league.

I don't want him expeled or forced out as there's really no-one better who could do a job for us back at lower league. Think just one of many that's been dismayed by such a poor disappointing season particularly after a 22 year wait to have made it back. You can sense the anger or questionability that a minority seem to possess on the issue.

Seven from Nine. Guess that's acceptable for a Yank, in fact it could be real impressive. Studied Sports Almanacs at one time or another, procured answers from past memory.

Missed out on West Bromwich and Blackburn. Time ran out attempting others like Queens Park, Sheffield Wednesday, Royal Engineers etc that imagined would fit right in.

Fans who clapped Vardy’s goal & clapped him off
at 02:16 19 May 2025

If he had scored 3 or 4 against Norwich City today I'd be a bit more giving or prepared to provide plaudits but he scored against us, not only that it were a poor performance from ourselves and all this right in the mix of a relegation scenario / on top of a real poor season.

Maybe he's great, maybe this Vardy is on a level or better than Gerd Muller or Diego Maradona, I don't know. It's their player and their business, I don't always see what he gets up to. All I can ascertain he's been a pivotal part of their recent success and helping win the EPL Championship etc. For that I guess he deserves a certain recognition.

Next season.
at 04:04 11 May 2025

It's not the league that's been crap, it's been us. We haven't performed, haven't been good enough to compete, too easily taken out by all level of opposition teams. When Southampton and Wolves came to Portman Road and took away a victory it kind of confirmed those suspicions.

Sort of came back in a wave of hype. Two successive promotions, best seasons and times at club in 20 plus years or going back to George as manager, we probably ran before we could walk on the return back.

The EPL like it or not is the place to be. It has the revenue, the grandeur, the rewards of success etc but if after nine months of participation any one team hasn't been good enough or fallen away once again there really isn't much in the way of argument.

It's easy to see people are upset and real disappointed about how it's shaped up to be on the return back (it's been over 20 years wait) but many would argue we've only orchestrated our own downfall this season.

The best thing about Brentford Football Club must be it's proximity to Heathrow.

You can just hop on an Airplane and get the hell out of there...

McKenna….
at 03:48 6 Apr 2025

Everyone's pissed after today, it were a bad score. First reaction is to pick out the manager, after all he's an easy target for things like this particularly when the team has endured a very poor season and on the verge of a return to lower league.

Point being there's no sense in getting rid. McKenna or not (that) back in the Championship it's highly unlikely the team will gain automatic promotion like before. They'll be changes in the summer regards playing personnel, whether Delap stays on is a huge factor but there'll be a number of departures and with it, new players coming in.

It's all hypothetical but as for the manager himself there's no real need to fire or look elsewhere. Of course he could up and leave anyhow from now until August but he's got coming up three years of experience here and knows the club set-up real well by now.

People are angry, you can see why they want change and you could advocate their sentiments, however like it or not McKenna should remain here next season as again he's familiar with the club structure and had a fantastic run for two seasons what with the two promotions.

Just don't believe next time it'll happen i.e. we'll maybe get a play-off chance or higher mid-league. McKenna's done great for sure you can't dispute and (he) would want to move on from this season's "lack of progress" but he won't replicate the success of before back at Championship level. No other coach we could bring in would do any better so therefore the (manager) position stays the same.

Why are we so crap at home
at 03:28 6 Apr 2025

Maybe it's a weight of expectation after being away from top league action since 2002. Perhaps the players are nervous or tentative to go out and perform, take on the biggest names that are available in the English soccer league structure.

Maybe it's the demand to provide fulfilment to 30,000 people each near and every time whereas before we'd be looking to fill half that number in lower league. There's a greater expectation to provide a certain duty to the fans. Perhaps the players we possess this season don't have the means to meet that criteria.

This is fu@king great, comedy platinum. Didn't know Abbott and Costello frequented our fan pages. Should get an autograph or something.

The day McCarthy returns here is the one where I'll just about give up decades of support for the club name. Either someone was born last week or slept through the whole time he were manager here. Why not hire back Jewell or Lambert while we're at it.

They want McKenna to remain though in an assistant coach capacity while the whole thing's going on ? Damn strange reasoning there.

Cajuste or Delap
at 02:26 16 Mar 2025

Seems Cajuste can walk on water, is he really that good. I don't see enough of the team in live action to make judgment.

That I can ascertain is Delap has done for us what Puskas did for Hungary in the 1950's. Well maybe not to quite such an extent, but Can't recall a single forward having such a profound effect at Portman Road for quite some time. The kid's been immense, has scored goals, makes goals, even his presence on the field seems to provide the team a lift or inspires players around him. Without him we'd be a (already) relegated club team now.

For that reason got to vote for the latter but if Cajuste really is as great as some insist then it's all well and good.

Spirited 120 minutes
at 01:27 4 Mar 2025

i'd like to take the opportunity to applaud McKenna for picking a strong squad when I didn't expect it. Imagined Muric or Slicker would be selected for goal duty while the attackers and midfielders that featured, expected at least half involved never to have been seen on the field. Said before years back and under different managers i..e. McCarthy, Hurst, Lambert, even Jewell or Keane (that) we wouldn't have shown the same hunger or desire in this years competition and would have been eliminated before the stage we got to.

If you can apply that, or the three Cup games we been involved with in this years competition, we have a real good chance of surviving a relegation.

Taylor's penalty reminded one of Southgate from 1996. All the previous (English / Germany) were if memory serves hit with precision and power but the final effort was lame and underhit. As with today.

So how bad is out penalties record?
at 01:14 4 Mar 2025

How many penalty shoot contests have we been involved in over last 25 / 30 years anyhow. There can't be too many instances, least not in real high profile games. Sheffield United '97 would seem to stand out as most damaging, at least with what was at stake and after a long hard season to miss out. To this day convinced we would have beat Palace in the Final game (believe we won 4 - 1 in a Cup game earlier that season) and that was a damn good team Burley was building around that time.

There was a high profile game with Liverpool some years later in the League Cup which believe was at Anfield and we held them over 120 minutes only to lose the resulting penalty contest. These are just two examples of standout games you can recall from years back where we missed out but other than the lesser ones already mentioned, not too many other instances really come to mind.

Palmer
at 18:05 15 Feb 2025

While should have come in sooner (Muric was proving prone to error too often) Palmer seems to be causing some excitement but can't judge the player on such a limited number of Town starts. If he's a good as the fanbase seem to imply, and with the amount of games and points still available, then all you can add is we'll have a real good chance of making it and retaining EPL status.

Still miss Hladky in a way, (and while) not everyone thought he were immense or could let the team down every now and again, all times seemed solid and gained us several points over course of a season.

I know you should never read comments on news stories
at 03:05 29 Aug 2024

Sure at some stage last season in the championship league McKenna was getting abuse or ridiculed by what could only have been say, a minority of the fanbase, when some results didn't go our way or the promotion objective seemed in jeopardy.

Tonight was frustrating for want of better words but in no way prepared to find fault with the manager because of it. He put out a strong team, made a go of it but the field players let us down and the blame should ideally be left with them.

McKenna signed a 4 year extension this or last year. That won't be fulfilled, there's very little chance he'll stay on for the time indicated but truth is he's done a marvellous job here since coming in and can by now be labeled in the same mention of Ramsey and Robson, although not actually winning a trophy or top level league like his predecessors.

For instilling hope, belief, perhaps most of all progress and making this club name recognized once again, I think McKenna can be put on a plateau with names listed. Maybe not quite as high but he sure put pride back in this team once again.

Very disappointing
at 02:50 29 Aug 2024

Kind of asks the question why are we even entered into it. Couldn't we simply pull out before it's even underway or inform whoever we don't want or need no part of it.

We've never won it, even appeared in a Final, kind of wish sometimes we could go all the way and include it with the top league, F.A and UEFA Cup we once already achieved but it's just evaded us all the years since inception in 1961 or whenever back.

Some fans are getting older, we don't have youth or our side like some other generation of Town fans, so it's acceptable to imagine just how much longer you're going to have the chance to see this club name win this one trophy. It's just time and again - in recent years at least - we fail against lower league opponents in these things. If we can't get past them then maybe what chance we got of actually going on to win the damn thing/s.

Smodzics signed a new deal in jan
at 02:36 6 May 2024

Had Blackburn dropped out the league during final game Smodzics would most likely have made for the exit and been real hot property but since BRFC lived to fight another day I guess they'll keep him on the roster for another season or at least up until January so there's not much anyone can do for time being regard making enquiries.

He may be a Gerd Muller type this season at BRFC but what's he been like before that with them and there's every chance a player can be a sensation at one club name and fail dismally at another. We've seen it time and again and Smodzics could be no different.

Lath at Middlesbrough is another target to explore. Maybe not as prolific but the player's really made a name for himself since start of year and could be a more feasible acquisition for McKenna. Imagine a three man attack partnership in the EPL with say Broadhead, Moore / Hirst when fit , although the manager would never attempt such a start formation. You can but try.

Interesting the Binner issue. Kind of wondered over time where it originated from and now we got an answer. Is it meant to be derogatory or hurt our feelings, if that were their intention they missed the mark by some distance.

By an own admittance can't help but take in a view of the Pink Un message board every now and again, particularly last few months as the promotion race neared a finish if only to see what they got to say about us. While one or two were gracious enough to offer congrats on our promotion the majority only seemed intent on some level of contempt and trash talk regards what we just accomplished. I know we're supposed to be rivals and everyone's not supposed to like each other, but we've by and large deserved this season, the points earned and promotion etc and just imagined some there would be a little more gracious with our accomplishments.

Not only that there don't appear no admin or cyber stewards over there so in theory rival
fans can go over and get up to whatever mischief they feel inclined.

Southampton
at 04:15 11 Apr 2024

they could still feasibly get one of the auto promotion places by end of final game ? It's a long shot but with games over others and yet to face off with both Leeds and Leicester the chance is there they could actually do it. It's unlikely but distinct possibility all the same.

Martin team coach has made a name for himself this season and guess will be a target for other club names wanting to improve or take a chance should or when he decides to vacate position. He's a former NCFC player and while you can never wash that sin from your soul credit where it's due he's provided Southampton a chance this season and within reach of a standout achievement.

Crowd sounded flat again
at 03:56 11 Apr 2024

Whatever number we took to Norwich last weekend didn't make much noise either, at least that's what reviews and report suggested. Maybe fans voices here are just drained with all the excitement / hollering thus far this season, can't really provide a definitive answer to it.

We got near 30,000 tonight for a non-weekend game with Watford. So the crowd didn't react much or provide the noise some would hope for but rather that than go back to managerial roles with McCarthy, Jewell, Hurst, Lambert etc, and "fill" Portman Road to half capacity and so quiet you could listen in on squirrels in Christchurch Park.

If the team wins all four available games we got a promotion. First time in the elite league since 2002, it's kind of bizarre when you put it into text to realize just how long we've been away.

Unfortunately don't think it'll go for us. Coventry and Boro are going to battle like hell because they need wins themselves . Don't see much what Hull get up to but if comes down to winner take all with Huddersfield by final game, you can kind of imagine the trepidation and nerves within Portman Road if we're to make it.

4 defeats in last 54 league games
at 03:05 6 Mar 2024

Those are some incredible stats and initial thinking being, something you can take a certain amount of pride in.

Neutrals could argue League One was or is an easy league where points are readily available but that just isn't the case but we almost won it and amassed 100 goals through work-rate, desire and consistency. Putting together a damn good team, it still doesn't sit right Plymouth somehow got the league win instead of ourselves.

Never imagined back last summer we'd be in 2nd position in a higher league still losing very rarely and on the verge of successive promotions. This is without question, best time period in the club history going back to George Burley. All right, Royle saw some good times but we fell short when it mattered. This time we're stronger and better equipped than before. Goals scored freely, very few losses and the consistency is back. There's got to be further celebration ahead.
