McKenna: I've Handed Over January Recommendations But My Focus is on the Players Already Here
at 12:18:08

So how much does this "transfer backing" depend on moving on expensive players (for League 1) who have not worked out as hoped - I would include Hladky, Burgess, Fraser, Carroll and possibly Harper. Many cost a fee and would be reluctant to take a pay cut. Plus we have unused players from previous regimes - Holy, Kenlock and Nolan. I understand there are limits on squad sizes. Ashton and Cook over recruited good players who did not seem to fit in - I hope Ashton does not repeat the error.

Ex-Aberdeen and Bristol City Boss Applies For Town Job
at 20:57:43

Increasingly think it odd that Cook was sacked without a ready made replacement. Looks like the pool of new managers is those who are currently available. In these circumstances, would it have been better not to imply a replacement will be in place prior to Sunderland but rather imply McGreal might be in charge for weeks if not months. Looks like poor management. Wake-up call for the Americans - it ain't that simple.

Cook: We're a Soft Touch That Gives Goals Away
at 00:06:18

Hindsight - a good manager/coach should be able to improve a group of professionals. Cook clearly did not do this after he took over last season with several games to go. The Cowley's did at Portsmouth at least getting them into the playoffs. Cook preferred the headlines of "demolition man". Now he has his "own" team whom he claims to know all about but it is still not happening. It is ideally too early to change him given we have got his squad. He is such an "ego' people assume he will not have a coach imposed on him. But that is what Ashton needs to do - either a young, smart tactician who would not get their own managerial job yet - or an experienced "Director of Football" who has been there and done that as a manager. If he will not accept this he needs to be shown the door as soon as practicable.

Cook to Field Strong Side Against West Ham U21s
at 14:18:53

As the Blue Monday Team pointed out - all eggs in the Morsy basket. So good job he signed. Strikes me that other teams have tactically worked Cook's Ipswich out - despite Town having better individual players. What is really worrying is that it is the weaker teams like Cheltenham, Morecambe and Wimbledon who can do this.

Cook: One of the Toughest Days I've Had in Management
at 03:18:44

Anyone who 1. thinks its smart to come out before the team and show off and 2. spouts meaningless, evasive excuses after the match - is not a good leader. Tactically he has one plan - 4,2,3,1 which he religiously sticks to but other teams have rumbled in terms of countering. Not sure of where ITFC go from here. Worth listening to the Bolton managers post match interview - not satisfied, humble and smart. Hopefully it changes but is Cook better than Lambert, Hurst etc.?

Morsy Move Will Depend on Boro Adding Replacement
at 02:46:32

Is well known to Cook a recommendation? early days but Evans and Fraser have been put in the "under performing" category by other commentators - same might be said for all the coaching staff he has brought in from previous clubs. Perhaps he missed out on the one he really needed - Richardson. Early days but wonder if we will see the CEO Ashton fist pump walk around the ground again soon?

Town Linked With Late Morsy Dash
at 13:53:46

How much did Hladky cost? - bet it was between half and one million. One wonders about the quality of recruitment. In a crisis, as others have pointed out, Cook seems to go back to his ex players. Evans has not so far been as effective as the hype. Without Richardson perhaps Cook's greatest need is in the coaching/tactics department. Remember when he told us he liked to work with small squads - this ones seems even bigger than the Mick/Lambert eras. Not comparing well at present with the Cowley's or the Warne's who have smaller budgets.

Cook: Toughest Period of My Management Career in Terms of Wins
at 18:54:21

Wimbledon players nowhere near as technically good footballers, but had spirit. Engine room died with Evans, manager' man, anonymous. Only Wombles player individually better was the goalkeeper. Thought Evans believed in small tight squads? Needs to strengthen his coaches not his playing squad.

Early days but now 8 points behind Pompey. Looking at their social media on youtube they are matching the ITFC supporters enthusiasm but winning. Sensible commentary from the Cowleys'. Long way to go but which manager will finish higher?

Cowley on Jacobs and Morrell

Maybe today's standards and perfectly legal - but I remember when Ipswich had a reputation under the Cobbold's for polite conduct. Maybe those times have passed but they helped build a culture and a reputation that went way beyond the club.

Jackson on Target But U23s Lose at Chelmsford
at 12:17:00

OK - must come a point when you give McGavin and Kenlock frees or terminate contracts by mutual consent I would do this at least two weeks before the end of the window. Best for them and club -- fresh start. Otherwise they hang around for another year. Not sure how much ITFC will get for Downes and Jackson - certainly they will not get what was offered last year. Given the number of strikers Town have got, I wouldn't hold up Jackson's departure for money. To date - all fees in besides Dozzell and Liam Gibbs have been "nominal".

Cook: We're Looking For Four, Five or Six More
at 02:24:15

Agree with Kentish Blue - any club or agent just put 10% on. In terms of fees in - 1 Million for Dozzell, maybe a 100K or so for a Lankester or a Drinan. Cannot see Cambridge or Orient splashing out more. I suspect Gibbs brought in at least 350K from Norwich as that is what they paid for teenagers Adshead (Rochdale) and Mair (Scotland) last year who then went out on loan. Could be even more as it was reported they paid 3 million plus for older teenager McCallum from Coventry who is now on loan with Dozzell at QPR. But selling Downes one would hope would bring in at least another million. At this minute can you let even him go without some others in?

Gibbs Joins Norwich as Clubs Agree Compensation
at 14:10:14

If ITFC got half or a third of a million at this point in time it is not a bad deal - maybe more funds for fair play and transfers to get out of League One. So he might contribute more to getting out of League One this way than being a squad player. Part of the ITFC business model for this set of circumstances. Gibbs is the third player Norwich have spent thousands on for their academy in this window the others came from Peteboro and Southend - it is part of their self funding their business model to sell their in demand players. Just a casual glance shows less than one in three work out - and a lot end up on loan to lower Division, Belgian, Dutch and German Clubs . If Gibbs makes it ITFC will probably get a percentage - Maddison, Godfrey and Buendia are examples and the clubs they were bought from all pocketed millions (Godfrey sell-ons saved York City!. So ITFC might actually get more this way. Always look on the bright side

Dartford 0-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 01:38:52

The value of the "bomb squad" must be dropping by the day. Not being involved is not good for them and I think the club. For both sides they are better out of the building - even on loan. Sad when most clearly have talent, even if they do not fit the new manager's style and philosophy. Though everyone is optimistic and welcoming the new dawn I was a bit surprised it was nil all at half time against a National League South side. Early days.

Town Host Morecambe on Opening Day
at 12:20:44

Cook seems to rate energy, discipline to a plan and commitment highly. So I would expect a rush out of the blocks with these lower Division early fixtures - the real test will come a few months in with a smaller squad when ITFC have to play the Sheffield Wednesday's, Sunderland's etc. That is when the depth of the squad will be tested - both physically and technically. Any news if he has or is going to appoint an Assistant Manager now? or have I missed something. We will find out if he can thrive without a Leam Richardson type.

Dozzell Deal Done
at 14:14:09

I reckon a million is a really, really good deal for Ipswich. I would not pay that for a talented, but "luxury" player, who is not suited to League 1. But hope he does well in the future.
