Does anyone remember which members of last season’s squad

were in the leadership group, and if any of them are still here? I think Morsy and Chaplin were?

The stamp on Jens. Can the club bring an action against Travis?

He should be banned for the season at least. Worst thing I’ve ever seen on a football pitch, and could have maimed Jens for life.

Is McKenna a “it’s my way or the highway” type of manager?
at 18:22 23 Aug 2025

Can he be accused of favouritism, as he seems to give certain players a lot more chances to fail (e.g. Muric, Clarke), than others (Broadhead, Burgess, Wolfie). It’s very sad that the brilliant team spirit we had when promoted seemed to dissolve in the Premier League. Too many capable promotion winners sidelined (and as a result team spirit weakened) by expensive signings that apart from Cajuste (and possibly O’Shea) haven’t been upgrades. However, a good man manager can turn things around…is that KM? Hopefully.

Jack Clarke for Sunderland.

Had a better haircut, better fitting shorts, seemed fitter, slimmer, and a yard quicker. Can understand why we bought him but what’s happened to him since he arrived?

Our signings look good value so far,
at 15:14 21 Aug 2025

and we’ve still plenty of time to get any additions bedded in. Although I have concerns over Kieran’s tactics sometimes, he’s still the best manager we’ve had for 20 plus years. A lot depends upon Cajuste’s fitness. If he can play for the majority of games though we’ll win the league by six points.

I don’t like our formation and never did.
at 15:50 19 Aug 2025

We nearly failed to gain promotion as the stronger sides Leicester and Southampton largely controlled possession against us home and away. It was the impact of our substitutions and late rallys that got us promoted and we could easily have ended up in the play offs. Our squad was strong but we got promoted in spite of our formation rather than because of it.

Our formation lends itself to surrendering possession too easily and not having cover when teams break on us. Would like to see Matusiwa and Cajuste joined in midfield by a new signing, and playing Chaplin behind Hirst and Sammie. Both fowards would benefit from playing closer together in a partnership. Having three in midfield would allow more cover when our full backs bomb forward, and enable us to retain more possession for the first 60 to 70 mins. We could then revert to Mckenna’s usual formation in the last quarter and widen the gaps with Clarke and Philogene. So 4 -3-1-2 and then 4-2-3-1. Obviously, these changes will be dependent upon whether we’re defending a lead or chasing the game, but starting with three midfielders and leaving out the wide men for the first hour should ensure that we control possession from the start in more games. We got spanked in the Premier League so many times because our midfield could not control much possession. Admittedly, this wasn’t solely due to the formation. Apart from Cajuste and Morsy we were short of Premier League talent, but in preparation for next year in the Premier League I would hope that Kieran would be more concerned with midfield strength than tricky wide men. It ain’t gonna happen though…

For all the good we’ve done with signings…
at 20:24 13 Aug 2025

Agree wholeheartedly with this post. I am really confused by McKenna at the moment. One of those that thought he was initially brilliant (especially when compared to all those “managers” that followed Magilton), but his inflexibility is becoming a problem, and I’m also starting to doubt his man management skills.

Why do teams break on us so easily when we have a corner, or in a good attacking
at 22:51 12 Aug 2025

position. Rewind most Premier League games and Maidstone. Why doesn’t more than one player remain very deep as insurance. I don’t get it, but I’m not a great tactician like KM.

Cannot see the logic in replacing Broadhead with Clarke.
at 22:28 12 Aug 2025

Philogene seems like Jack Mark 2 to me. Early days but seems brittle. There are percentage players that can play badly but still contribute, and then there are luxury players and at the moment both JC and JP look like expensive luxuries.

Broadhead has a great first touch, can see a pass, and is a good finisher. I can only assume he really wants to leave?

Jack seems far too predictable, gets knocked off the ball easily, not much pace, runs down blind alleys. Of course he’s young, and has potential, but should not be in the first team until he builds some muscle. I assume he won’t now Akpom’s arrived (get in the first team rather than bulk up that is).

If we get Hackney our midfield is stronger than last season
at 11:18 29 Jul 2025

and if we get another striker to support Hirst our attack will be stronger as well. Delap was too selfish, and did’t knit the team together as well as Hirst can. Also, think Clark and Philogene could surpass Omari?

Why does Tommy Tuchel like old men?
at 16:21 11 Jun 2025

Why is he playing Henderson, Walker, and Kane when he should be preparing for a World Cup? Admittedly, Kane can still pick a great pass, and score a penalty, but he was woeful in the last tournament and the World Cup will be a tournament too far. Tuchel should be bedding in fast young players who will have a chance to mature by the Finals. Similarly, I hope we don’t play Sam too much this season as we need to find someone with the skill and legs for the Premier. At least we don’t have “short fuse” Tuchel in charge.

9 wins 3 draws, not bad for a team that were near the bottom prior to that run.

Delap dives far too often (n/t)

Agree 100%. The Philogene, Hutchinson, Clark, work in progress should be changed as well. Would prefer 3 out of 4 from Enciso, Chaplin, Smodicz, or Broadhead.

Best team tonight? Does McKenna know his best team?
at 14:02 3 Mar 2025

I’d prefer Woolfie, Burgess, Townsend, Szmodics, Broadhead, (Chaplin or Enciso if fit?), and Hirst anyway. Delap is a phenomenal talent, and will be England’s next centre forward, but for now Hirst may get more out of his team mates. Delap is too much of a one man band at times, and verging on selfish. Although, it’s probably just a desire to do well. Hirst could link play better, and although our defending has largely been poor, not utilising Hirst enough when fit is a negative. I hope he plays tonight at least. Ideally, I’d have liked both in the same team but appreciate that our lack of target man recruitment has cost us. Pity we’ve got four goalkeepers and only two centre forwards. Please no Muric.
