Lessons from last year
at 08:00 19 Jul 2025

I can’t disagree with anything here, I’m a let’s get all business done before preseason but we know that’s practically impossible in this market whilst it ends in Sept.

I’m happy in knowledge we only need 1 starter (8) which means continuity in preseason and builds on familiarity from last season.

I’m more concerned by the ongoing need for at least

a second 6
a better striker than AAH to share time with Hirst

stardust for the forward group when OH leaves.

These 4 will be those that have less pre season game time to pick up the game play.

I’m relaxed until Aug 01!

If we get £40m for Omari that is a quite brilliant bit of business from Ashton
at 07:34 19 Jul 2025

I would say this is success in the context of our past and both have set new baselines which we carry forwards. It’s not only about the profit it’s the £65-70m revenue in coming that secures the coming years and the reduction in wages and freeing up combined ~£10m per year amortisation hit to profits.

All that before you consider who we did business with to secure the talent (that wouldn’t be in our control to negotiate harder) and the players will clearly have wanted to leave at the time they did.

This is painful but good planning and reduces stress in following years if this year doesn’t prove to be 100 points 100 goals as expected by some.

Morsy Signs
at 08:19 18 Jul 2025

Agreed Morsy’s replacement is here otherwise the story wouldn’t have played out like it did this week. We are now into securing his midfield partner (as described Cajuste’s replacement) and adding the depth in that position, probably 2 to come.

All very quiet on potential strikers
at 15:55 17 Jul 2025

I hate to mention it but until we have identified, agreed and convinced a player nothing is happening until then they have to be better than AAH and available to us at a price and wage that works. Not easy competing at the top of the champ and bottom of the PL, the talent pool in small.

FAO Phil/Or anyone else ITK
at 12:32 17 Jul 2025

Is there an Elite player that actually wants to play 46 + games when they can still earn decent money and play 25-35? Our starter finisher approach would mean plenty of game time and the part of the attraction for any incoming player is a genuine crack at promotion and PL football with riches that come with that.

Miller from Hibs - Championship bids rejected
at 12:25 17 Jul 2025

There is a lot of noise about RB which makes you at least listen to the concerns. I understand why, Clarke played second fiddle in the run in for the champ season finale and Johnson didn’t deliver at the required level in the PL. We currently look better stocked there than last time we started in the champ as all the players are better for the last season and BJ isn’t being asked to deliver at PL level. KMcK will know best as always.

Are new signings dependent on fee from selling Omari?
at 22:15 16 Jul 2025

The bigger issue more than cash is targeting players that want to come and squad spaces which are at a premium.

Will we have replacement lined up
at 16:41 16 Jul 2025

Omari is a one off he can’t be replaced but we did our business in Jan to secure Jaden. We might continue to take PL loans for the high potential talent and a midfielder and striker would probably be more important short term.

I agree with you but was that our starting or finishing position, I mean suspension risk and injury cover has been a feature of how we’ve ended certain seasons. I still go with minimum 4 starters plus Humphries.

28 senior players now - so need to shift 3 to name the 25 man squad
at 09:58 14 Jul 2025

I make it 27 on squad count (Humphries U21, Baggott over 21).

Far easier to deal in current facts.

Everything else is contingent upon many factors whether driven by club or player.

In order to cover the Cmf and Striker needs we need to shift 4 to accommodate before we decide to make any other adjustments.

25=27+2[-4].

Muric
Slicker
(possibly Walton if Button is registered)
Baggott

To find the other one it could be OH and or Broadhead are sold and worst case Burns is not registered for first half of season.

Signings - Great News !
at 08:31 14 Jul 2025

There is what we do know and don’t know! Squad depth suggests at least 1 Cmf and 1 higher functioning forward/striker is required.

That then means no place for several current players but easily solved by removing 2 GKs and or Baggott plus consider Burns availability through to Jan.

After that it depends a lot on further leavers, OH, SM, Broadhead or any other sale and the replacing them adequately.

Great to get a few signings done
at 07:18 14 Jul 2025

In squad terms the two signings are great ahead of Austria.

We now have a starting 11 on paper. We now have our goalkeeper and defense groups locked on paper. We now have at least two players fit in each attacking position, that’s excluding OH as I assume he has another week holiday. This is probably the most balanced we’ve been for our early preseason camp for several years.

There is business to come:

Need
-1 CM
-1 Forward/striker

Need to balance GK position
Likely lose 2 in that group of 4 (not including Button)

After that it’s more subjective and depends on sales or where we can opportunistically trade and upgrade.

The squad is at 26 (excluding Button, including Baggott and Humphries)

2 keepers to leave and minimum 2 to come which probably relegates Baggott and could make make Burns unregistered until Jan to free up the space alongside the probable OH sale, and now we here possible move for Sammy Morsy.

Guesswork but there are still several ins and outs to come to complete the squad but hopefully they land in a squad that is building momentum by the time they arrive.

Realising we were/are a year ahead of schedule
at 17:58 12 Jul 2025

In this modern game it’s likely you are never really ready because if you fall you lose some player and if you rise you add some players that might not settle from day 1. However what it does do is allow accelerated investment at a level impossible under normal investment levels for those without safety of parachute payments. The critical thing is how you maximise that acceleration investment in order to stay ahead of the pack in the champ.

Let’s do this Ipswich.

Brentford and Mckenna
at 13:42 12 Jul 2025

I would be quite surprised had KMck not spoken to them since it was widely reported that they wanted to speak with him. It keeps things professional even if in the end he explained his reasons for not formally pursuing the role. May be they had a chat about mutual admiration for what he’s done and what they’ve done to establish Brentford in the PL!!

Category One - what's changed on the recent progression front?
at 06:36 12 Jul 2025

I’m assuming the business case says as Cat 1 we have to invest in the infrastructure in a way we didn’t before and the outcomes will be better as a result. I’m also assuming that at the lower age levels it’s unlikely we will attract any more or differnt talent to what we would have done anyway because that will be as much about parents and living location and their ability to help their child logistically. Im assuming having probably there may be marginal benefit in being able to attract the edge cases in order that they don’t join Nodge or WetSpam now given the PL2 opportunity is there. I also assume that helps retain in the upper age groups with that league level access open to the players.

Lots of assumptions but it would be nice to have a stream of 5-30m players come through our system rather than someone else’s for a change.
