Yeah, this is spot on. I’ve been genuinely sad this evening and trying to work out why this hurts more than before. It’s what that team both stood for and delivered. We’d had nothing to cheer about for more than two decades, and I personally was drifting away into apathy about football generally. Then they put that L1 run together and made us all believe again.
So much is owed to those players, they weren’t the most successful in the history of the club, nor the greatest quality, but what they were was a symbol of the rebirth of this football club, and for me, has them up there with anything else we’ve ever done. I’ll be forever thankful that we had those two magical seasons. [Post edited 1 Sep 23:03]

That was against Preston to put us 2-1 up. Something that always goes unreported about that goal is how Wes gets completely wiped out with an elbow by one of their players as BW starts his run.
He also scored a vital diving header to get the equaliser away to Huddersfield. |

To be fair to Ahadme, he had an excellent game against our centre halves for Burton just before he signed, and he was still relatively young, despite not meeting the grade at Pompey. One of those that turned out to be playing at his level, rather than having potential. |

As a few else have said, it’s not about Muric being technically bad, in terms of ability, he’s fantastic. The problem with him is entirely between the ears. That said, that first half against Man City on his debut did seem a little bit like a sign of things to come, more than it just being luck. The sense that the cb’s didn’t really trust him either really bled into a lot of the early season games and ultimately contributed to some of the clangers.
With Marshall, it’s very much the same story. He was off to a bad start with some due to where he came from, and I remember a moment in his home debut against Leicester where he dropped a cross and it felt like the whole ground in unison shouted ‘what the f’ are you doing Marshall.’
Guess first impressions count.
For me, Scott Loach goes down as the biggest disappointment. Watford no. 1 for a time, home town boy and yet he just didn’t meet expectations.
The one that I felt performed better than expected was Arran Lee-Barratt - he was the face of his glove supplier for a time. |

Gave away my tickets for Spurs, Wolves and Bournemouth to family, so didn’t see a win all season.
Top moment for me though was the Smodizcs goal away to Man City, I don’t think I’ve ever been in an away end that wild, including a number the last couple of season. Didn’t pan out very well, but in that moment was just unbridled sheer elation. |

I’d gone downstairs to get something to eat when Broadhead scored. Was gutted to have missed the goal, but I was near the front, so I didn’t move. I was being served when Hirst scored.
I stood at the front of the stand during HT just watching back up at the stand, it was electric. When the third goal went in, it was just the most transcendant experience, hugging people I’d never seen before or since.
Unquestionably the best night I’ve had watching the club. |

Very well put, I was shocked as I walked through to the stand, how much of the concourse there was, I queued up for ages at the first concession I found before walking to my block, I then realised there was a very quiet concession opposite the entrance. Very sensible stewarding meant that it was simple to get out too.
I had a very odd feeling walking around to the memorial, I saw the same bloke in contemplation, and there were a fair few blokes in their 50’s walking up to the memorial, touching a name and walking off. Really brought home how much of an unimaginable tragedy it all was, more so with what happened afterwards.
Despite the result, I came away relatively content. Our second half performance restored pride, and I developed a soft spot for the hosts. |

I imagine it’s to force Boro’s hand as a makeweight in a potential Latte Lath swap plus cash. Cancelling his loan now means that they are without potentially their best performing defender for the rest of the season, and focuses the mind more.
He can’t play for any other club this season, and as much as I love him, he won’t get in ahead of O’Shea or Greaves, so Id assume this is the case, rather than bringing him back to warm the bench for the rest of the season. |
