For me, I think it sunk in that we were on the way was after Leicester away. This really indicated to me that McKenna was something special. The way he set the team up, with Travis and Luongo either pushing up in possession or dropping back to form a back 6 out of posession, Chaplin essentially being on the pitch to wear out Faes and the rest of their backline, then bringing on the subs, all of whom consistently rotated positions to break up their formation, resulting in Sarmiento being unmarked when the ball popped back out to him to score. I’ve never known a sound like it when that went in. |

It’s interesting to remember that we were in a very similar position in 2009. They went down to League One, looking completely bereft, whilst we looked like we were on the up with a final day win over Coventry, not seeing how it would all go wrong for Keane in the near future.
They rebuilt and thrived as much as we regressed. Now found in a similar situation, clearly it’s too much to ask for a bit of perspective from those up the road. |

Thread | Midlands based and no ticket for tomorrow

As hard as I’ve tried (constant refreshing for 2 hours this afternoon), I’ve been unable to secure a ticket.
Sitting at home watching seems like a bit of an anti-climax, so I’m interest to know if there’s a meet up in the midlands, or whether I should join the many others driving the 3hrs to Ipswich to take some part in it locally. Any advice is apprieciated. [Post edited 3 May 18:08]

It was nice to see KMcK pushing him to the front last night. He was such a key part of the side first half of last season, he almost certainly have played a part with our injuries this season too if he'd been fit.
Hopefully he recovers well and finds regular football next season. |

Did anyone else feel like every bit of pain, torment and agony 2002-2022 left their body in the 97th minute?
You talk about big moments for clubs, all those years we’ve been also rans, been ‘two players short of a good side’, all of the loan players treading water, all of the false dawns, all those years of receiving what we were given rather than what we deserved, all of those demons - exorcised.
The last two years, my baked in pessimism has made me think that the ‘but’ is just around the corner, that somehow this is all doomed to fail.
No more - this is the team that is taking us to the promised land. Bring on the Budgies! |

Clearly on a weekend break with his family, so not wanting to put him in an awkward position, I just gave him a nod and an alright to pay respects.
This was fine and he knew I’d recognised him, however this was around the start of the visit and we proceeded to spend the next 40 mins bumping into each other, to the point that I had to keep trying to lose him so that he didn’t think I was following him.
Unfortunately, like many Championship strikers this season, I kept turning corners and coming face to face with him.
I’m 37 years old, and yet that’s one of the most awkward hours of my life. |

Sarmiento’s equaliser against Leicester felt utterly huge, never known a feeling like it being there in person. Properly felt like an arrival, when we went from a plucky promoted side to a genuine contender |

A lot to like about that goal. Great FB play with the 1-2 and cross from the goal one, then an incredibly intelligent header from big KM.
