Is everyone disappointed with the Delap 30m price?
at 09:19 20 May 2025

The point about Southampton nearly signing him is crucial. As has been reported several times on here, he was set to sign for Southampton, but we got in last minute. Man City accepted our offer but Delap had agreed terms with Southampton and we had to match the terms they offered.

By all accounts it was Mckenna that won him over to come here instead of Southampton, but if they had agreed that contract with the clause we had to match it or not get him. You could argue it is worth £33M as its likely Southampton would have been above us if they had picked him up (if each place in the league is worth approx £3M) and we hadn't bought better, but all ifs and buts, would he have fitted into their system.... would we have picked up anyone better (paid over the odds for that Greek fella or Broja?). It would be worth £36M if we haven't lost to Leicester if we can't get above them on final day....

Regardless of referee competence and bias, the second yellow VAR problem
at 18:24 26 Apr 2025

But if you rescind the card at the next break in play, it will then lead to a debate about the original incident, should we go back for the free kick (currently VAR can’t intervene for free kicks) as the officials are agreeing it wasn’t a dive. I think majority of people want less VAR intervention rather than more, but agree with your general point it just feels wrong when one of the yellows was such a mistake by the officials.

Obviously it was hugely frustrating- as was Axel at Villa - but at the very least they need to allow appeals for 2 yellow card dismals. Its just crazy you can appeal straight red but not when two yellows. Retrospectively he wouldn’t get banned nor would have Axel.

The crowd today..

That may have been your perspective, but it simply isn’t the case. Another here in the West Stand and could hear nothing from them, bar a brief mention of Ed Sheeran. Thought it was odd they were so quiet, away day, FA cup potential upset etc

Section A on the other hand had a good long spell in the 2nd half, good to hear Massimo song again, wakka-wakka, EEJB, spirit in sky, etc guess it’s just down to acoustics.

Has a team ever been relegated from the Premier League with a points deduction?
at 09:19 3 Jan 2025

Didn't Pompey get 10 pt deduction for being the first Prem team to go into administration? They got relegated same season but don't recall if the 10 points was the deciding factor but it can't have helped with that going on.

Shots on target against.
at 15:41 10 Feb 2024

I think the stats for Preston were only 2 shots on target by them, due to Edmondsons own goal.
Which would mean the last 3 games we’ve conceded 6 shots on target - but conceded 7 goals !

FC Twente - you know the team we got Arnie and Franz from
at 18:57 31 Jan 2024

Didn’t his old man play against us in a preseason friendly against the same team, FC Twente, many moons ago. I vaguely recall supporters bursting out into laughter when his name was read out on the PA, maybe coming on as a sub?

I assumed it was premeditated those two Coming off when they did, shame tho as they just seemed like they always a had a moment in them.
Burns coming on I can understand, though I wondered if he might’ve brought him on for Ball as they weren’t really threatening after their goal. But to be fair to McKenna if Burns smashes in that one that flashed across the goal he would’ve been vindicated, as would’ve been a replay at worse and he has mastered the art of substitutions this season.

MOTD punditry about our match
at 23:21 27 Jan 2024

I turned it off when he started with “Maidstone caused Ipswich no end of problems” in an attacking sense
Eh was I at a different game? Yes they defended immensely and were-clinical we know that, but caused us no end of problems ? Perhaps they went on to talk about the defence and goalie causing us problems, but I switched off after that !

Am sure I read somewhere (probably on here so obviously true) that he was overlooked when Rob Chandler got the gig and was "promised" first refusal when Rob gave it up. No idea if its true, kind of fits that the job went to someone who is sadly not really right for the job. Nice guy, perfect for local radio with his knowledge of the local music scene, but incredibly dull and monotonous, ill suited to this role

Saying that, his announcement around the Exeter subsitution in the 2nd half was very amusing "...I have to be honest I have no idea who left the field for Exeter as I wasn't watching"....!

Also, I wish they'd let us know the half time scores from other games, either announce or using the big screen, considering 3g/4g is so ropey in the ground.

Parking - when full up?
at 17:37 16 Apr 2023

Question to the hive mind of TWTD. Am driving and parking Tuesday evening (can’t normally make evenings, use public transport for sat games but that’s not an option) what sort of time do the car parks (crown street, Wolsey above and below, West end road etc) start to get full? Previous Tuesday game I came I left it quite late and most were full, found one eventually tho further away! Would there be plenty of spaces if arriving around 7?

Cheers in advance

6 second rules for keepers…
at 18:43 15 Oct 2022

If it’s so blatant why do refs allow it? Always occurs during spells of intense pressure, then suddenly the “break” in play, to halt the momentum. Like a time out, but this ain’t American football, we don’t have time outs!

At the v least officials should stop players going to touchline, only exception should be during the hot weather to take on fluids

Rant over.

Don’t get me started on the goalie’s “cramp” then everyone retires to the touch line for tea & crumpets.

True he is a touch player, but did he win any headers all afternoon? He just seemed to get sucked into a running battles with his admittedly very close markers! I see Watson tweeted that he didn’t think he was very committed when he had a chance to race the goalie for the ball. All small things but they add up. To nothing currently...
