 | News Comment | Burgess Joins Swansea at 18:10:04
Sorry to see him go but fully understand his decision. Grieves will be first choice here because of his big transfer fee but Burgess is too good to be a sub in the Championship. No doubt he will score at least one set piece goal against us. |
 | News Comment | Hutchinson Focused on Euros at 13:40:17
I would be surprised if any club is willing to pay 35 million for him at the moment. He is talented and has the potential to become an outstanding player but he looked light weight and out of his depth in many games last season. He is still young and inexperienced and I genuinely believe that he needs another year of guidance from Kieran and a full season in the Championship before he will be ready for the Premier League. |
 | News Comment | O'Shea: I'm Fully Committed to Town at the Moment at 14:00:10
He only left Burnley for us to stay in the Premier League, so I can't see him staying if Premier League teams want him. That would be a shame because he's our best centre back and it will be difficult to sign an adequate replacement. |
 | News Comment | Brentford Linked With McKenna Move Should Frank Depart For Spurs at 15:15:09
I would like KM to stay and would expect him to honour the lucrative contract that he signed last summer. He's probably fortunate to be Brentford's first choice after the worst season in our history, so I would understand if he felt that he couldn't turn the the job down (especially as it would be possible for him to avoid uprooting his young family). It may come down to whether he really believes that he can get us promoted again mext season. If he does decide to go, at least we have plenty of time to replace him and I'm sure that Mark Ashton has a suitable replacement lined up. |
 | News Comment | Former Blues Boss McCarthy Inducted into LMA Hall of Fame at 11:51:58
By all accounts McCarthy was a decent bloke who was liked by all the support staff and most of the players. He deserves credit for saving us from relegation in his first season and then getting us to the playoffs on a limited budget. Subsequently he stuck to a low risk, defensive, hoofball hoping to keep a clean sheet and nick a goal from a set piece (home and away). Unsuprisingly the quality of football was poor, we didn't score many goals and there was very little else to enjoy. When an increasing number of fans expressed their dissatisfaction he was at first arrogant and dismissive and became belligerent and antagonistic, culminating with his F.off to Town fans at Carrow Rd. Hence he was sacked and left in a huff. He is now understandably regarded as a dinosaur but his award correctly recognises the significant achievement of managing over 1000 games. |
 | News Comment | Szmodics Withdraws From Irish Squad at 10:57:16
Hopefuly this isn't because of a new injury but just to ensure he is injury free for pre-season training at Playford Rd. |
 | News Comment | Luongo: Together We Have Created Incredible Memories at 17:12:35
A really good pro and an excellent role model for the younger players. His great partnership with Morsy was crucial to our back to back promotions. Unfortunately he is too slow for the Premier League but he could still be effective in the Championship. He wouldn't be able to start every game but he would be more influential than Jack Taylor. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-3 West Ham United - Match Report at 18:39:50
Well at least our worst season ever is over. The worry is that we will carry our lack of confidence and losing habit into next season. No Delap, Phillips or Cajuste so, regardless of who else leaves, several quality signings are required. The sports psychologist should be working overtime this summer and we will need to regain a winning mentality in pre-season. Time for Kieran to step up and show that he deserves his massive salary. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-1 West Ham United - Half-Time at 17:04:28
Usual script - have a good spell, miss a few chances and give away a soft goal. We're now a team that's so used to losing that it doesn't believe it can win anymore. |
 | News Comment | Leicester City 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 19:18:45
Another low point in a dreadful season. We're going down with a whimper. Couldn't score or keep a clean sheet against a poor Leicester team. We're basically hopeless in both penalty areas and poor in midfield. Given our results against the other relegated teams it's difficult to see how we're going to shake off our losing habit and be a force in the Championship next season. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-1 Brentford - Match Report at 18:35:39
Brentford never got out of second gear but were still able to take all 3 points. As we're already relegated I don't understand why we were so passive for most of the game. Apart from the early chance for Delap created by Hutch our only attacking threat in the first 80 minutes came from Enciso but he couldn't find the final pass. Delap was on the beach, Jack Taylor offered nothing and Morsy only made an impression when the tiring Bees had slowed to his pace and we have no one who can deliver a decent corner. I have seen very little since Fulham away to believe that we will be in contention for an immediate return to the PremLeague next season. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: We're Better Prepared For the Championship Than We Were Two Years Ago at 19:07:43
Subject to which players leave in the summer and who we bring in to replace them, we should have a stronger squad on paper than two years ago. However, as Carlo88 points out, instead of the momentum of a high scoring promotion behind us we start next season on the back of relegation and winning very few games. Conversely expectation will be higher than last time. We will probably be favourites to win the league and all our opponents will relish the opportunity to beat the ex Premier team. It's going to be very tough to bounce straight back. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-4 Arsenal - Match Report at 20:06:41
For the first half of the season Kieran's mantra was was (justifiably) small margins, because we were competitive in all but 3 of 19 games and our performances deserved more than the 15 points we had taken. Since the turn of the year we have been much less competitive and don't deserve more than the 6 points we have taken and Kieran is now reminding us how far we have come in the last 3 years and how difficult it is to be competitive in the Premier League. Whilst he is correct, I wonder if this us sending the wrong message to the players. They no longer play as if they believe that they can win a game. This may explain why Johnson recently said that the players had done the club proud. They've certainly given 100% but that is to be expected but 6 points in 2025 and 7 straight home defeats is nothing to be proud of. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-4 Arsenal - Match Report at 16:18:50
Such an easy afternoon for Arsenal. Davis' deserved red made it harder for us, of course, but Arsenal had strolled into a 2 goal lead before that and it could have been double figures by the end. Since the turn of the year it's been far too easy for visiting teams to win at Portman Rd. I wish this horrible season was over. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-2 Arsenal - Half-Time at 16:04:53
It was a stroll for Arsenal even before the sending off. I just wish the season was over. We've been a push over at home since the turn of the year. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Arsenal Have Qualities Any Team Would Admire at 19:33:23
The Arsenal that beat Madrid 5-1on aggregate would beat us easily nine times out if ten. However they know that their not going to win the Premier League so their focus will now be the Champions League. Consequently, I believe that we might actually beat them on Sunday. We're certainly due another win at home! |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Match Report at 17:42:22
We hardly had a kick second half when Wolves showed that they deserve to stay in the Premier League. Only one home win all season is very disappointing and we only managed six shots at goal today compared with Wolves 22. Not many highlights in our brief flirtation with the Premier League. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-4 Nottingham Forest - Match Report at 20:17:39
Avoiding relegation was always going to be very difficult and it has been made even harder because of all our injuries. However I think it's still fair to question some of Kieran's decision making. His recruitment of do many young Championship players was always a gamble, as was not dropping Muric sooner and continuing to play Davis in that high left back roll has been very costly in terms of goals conceded. I would also question playing Hutchinson in the central number 10 role when Szmodics, Chaplin or Enciso were available and our lack of a plan B when our slow build up from the back hasn't been very effective. As he's apparently one of the top paid managers in the country, if he's still in charge next season in the Championship, I wonder if he will offer to take a pay cut. |
