Tranmere Rovers 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report

I need to put it out there: Chambers was terrific again. Great turn of play that led to the first goal.

Massive performance from the boys. Some great play on horrendous conditions.

Downes is too good for this league.

Lukey Chambers, baby. Turned into Olivier Giroud for the third goal. Brilliant performance from the lads, especially in the first half. I've slated Edwards for a good year now, and rightly so, but today he was very good. Would like to see Skuse at the back instead of Wilson, or maybe Gibson fits in there. Not a fan of Skusey in a midfield two in 3-5-2. Also thought Huws and Downes bossed the first half. Judgey very good and composed in his favoured position, too. On to the next.

I respect your opinion but dont think our form has anything to do with a player signing a new deal. I have obviously followed the team and watched every match, my point is that all the negativity and moaning on this forum makes me tired.

How can supporting the team, working together as a collective and backing eachother through difficult times be a bad thing? People cant expect PL to turn an awful side into a great one in a year with limited funds. I agree and acknowledge that he would have to improve results, but I genuinly believe that bringing young guys through and reconnecting fans with club is a great place to start, and hopefully results will pick up soon.

We all want Town to do well, so lets pull in the same direction and see where it can take us.

We solely miss wide players who can take on oppositions, so hopefully that will be sorted in january.

"Skuse and Chambers are ruining our Club!"

Comments like that remind me why I've not active on TWTD for about 5 years. So tiresome, predictable, negative and destructive. Yawn.

also Edwards is never in a million years a defender. One of the worst players I've seen at Ipswich in my lifetime (whos played consistantly).

Watch his performances this year in detail and dont go off the bad rep he's got, and you'll see that he's done well. Had a few blips, but overall he's been steady at the back alongside poor defenders. Garbutt is not a defender, Donacien is not great, Kenlock is not great defensively, Wilson has his limiations, and Nsiala, well....

Chambers is another one I think gets far too much dirt from fans. Once we lose those kind of captains and leaders everyone will start to call out for the club to get those types back. He will be missed as soon as he leaves.

When people tie failure up to certain individuals it shows me that they usually are quite clueless. It's a team game and the club collectively need to work the way out of this bad spell. Some folks love to point the finger and create scapegoats. I'd rather have productive, constructive and civilized discussions about how things can improve.

On to the next.

I think he's been fairly decent when he's played this season. Was outstanding against Cov and think he contributed well today again. As I said; he's a deep laying midfielder. Doesn't suit him to play alongside a player like Skuse who operates in the same areas. Play him and Downes together in midfield and with a player like Bish or Judge infront of him I can see him thrive. Think he gets a lot of unfair stick - because his dad was a top player...

He's still young, a local lad, had his injuries and a lot of dirt off the pitch too. Think people judge him based on an illusion that he's supposed the be an offensive threat. Again: I think his best position is deeper with space ahead of him to hit diagonal balls. With busy and energetic runners alongside him, I think we will start to see the best of him.

Let me make one thing clear. We CANNOT use Skuse in the central midfield whilst playing 3-5-2. He plus three central defenders overcrowds the defensive parts of the field. So my suggestion is to play him at the back as one of the three CB’s, or leave him out completely. Balance is terrible with 4 centrally defensive players. Need a box-box player alongside Dozzell in this formation for it to work. For example Nolan or Downes. Bishop was a real bright spark today, but his position is just off the strikers.
I might be one of few to actually rate Dozzell, but he needs to have the right player alongside him. His range of passing, tempo and vision is unique, so let him have a run in the team with Downes, and I’ll think we’ll start to see the best of him.
My team for Accrington (3-5-2)
Holy
Edwards-Donacien-Chambers-Woolfenden-Garbutt
Downes-Dozzell
Judge
Norwood-Keane

Now stick to this formation PL, and get the personnel right.

Ipswich Town 1-2 Bristol Rovers - Match Report
at 17:27:15

Im a glass half full kind of guy, but today was unacceptable. Looked to me like PL just threw together the best possible players and hoped for the best. A complete disaster in terms of relations between players with lots of sloppy and intercepted passes. Nolan for me should have been subbed after 20 minutes, with FOUR woeful and wasted passes. On the bright side I thought Nors linked play well, and Woolf and Downes keep putting in decent performances. Norwood, Jackson and Keane are strikers, so with basically no width to feed them with, it's really contraproductive. I would prioritize a decent and explosive winger in the january window - someone to challenge defenders and run at them with a decent shot. Someone in the mould of Tom Lawrence. We have a lot of tippy tappy players but many of them are too similar.

We need to find a system and stick to it - this chopping and changing cant continue. We've won games this season based on the fact that we have a lot of good individual players. Also Chambers was badly missed today.

BUT we are still in a good place, so keep the positivity going. Difficult to go from an awful side to a decent one in just a few months. I still trust and believe in Lambo and his plans, but today was horrendous.

Comfortable yet not at our best, and we still manage to get a win. Lots of positives and more to come, I think.

Time to give Chambo the credit he deserves. Safe and sound on the ball, commanding and dominant without it. Man of the match along with KVY.

Squad is looking really solid - plenty of quality players yet to play a part (Keane, Bish, Lankester, Sears, etc)

Taylor: A Fantastic Exercise

Good stuff. Even though it's a "pointless" game I think it's important to have a platform for players like Dobra, El Mizouni, Wilson, Donacien, Roberts, Clements etc to play, who arent likely to feature for the first team that much. Hopefully we can progress and give these players even more matches.

The positivity continues, and that's all we can ask for.

Lambert: We Were Relentless in the Second Half
at 23:50:33

4-4-2 worked the magic today as we struggled to get some intensity and momentum going, but I wouldnt say that one up top doesn't work for that matter. Had we turned the three in midfield around and played with an attacking midfielder instead of a holding, and with a proper left winger, things would have looked different.

Let's say we play:
Downes-Skuse
Rowe-Judge-Georgiou
Norwood

That's a really attacking team with potential to keep possession of the ball while having a decent shape to it. I've felt we've been exposed and run over in midfield when playing 4-4-2, and there's a reason why PL has gone away from it in the latter stages of every game so far this season. The high intensity, high press and "crazy" style of play we apply when using the 4-4-2 is great for spells of the game, but it's impossible to keep that up for 90 minutes.

Nevertheless I'm absolutely delighted with the win, and though there are issues that need to adressed, I think we can all be pleased by the fact that we pick up points while being so far away from our best. That combined with the "never say die"-mentality, makes us a really decent side, and I'm excited to see how we do once all the players are settled and back to match sharpness. Imagine this team with unfit players like Huws, Garbutt, Lankester, Sears, Nolan, Toto, Judge and Bish back to full speed.... we can also look forward to getting KVY in the team. Thought JD was poor today. Honest bloke and a decent character, but not good enough to play RB in an attacking-minded team. Good for cover, but not as a starter. Kenlock looked better when Georgiou came on.

Keane Rejoins Town

Absolutely awesome signing. Always rated this guy highly, and if he can stay fit he will be a great addition to our squad. Great in his hold up play, he’s a smart footballer and is technically gifted. Could be a good player to use behind Norwood as well in a 4-2-3-1.

Very happy with this one - seems like he’s got a decent attitude as well. COYB!

Peterborough United 2-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 19:12:14

Poor display, but yet again we grind out points when performance level is beyond what we all demand. Something to build on, and I think we all would take 5 points from the first 3 games against promotion chasing opposition (whereas 2/3 were away). Lets just all calm down, stay positive while its obvious that things need to improve - and Im sure it will.

Would invest in a new LB as well. Not sure about Kenlock carrying all the responsibility by him self. And as Ive said before; 4-4-2 leaves us exposed in midfield against decent sides. I would return to 4-2-3-1 on tuesday and give Judgey a real chance. If he doesnt deliver he will be benched, and I think he could thrive under that type of pressure. Need more coming from our wingers as well. Rowe shows sparks, but not consistent enough and Edwards is too sloppy and clearly not match fit. But we’ve come through 3 hard games with a decent tally, so three wins out of the next three would put us in a good position - against really winnable teams too.

COYB - and lets remain positive.
