Knudsen: I Don't Like the Way Fans Treated Mick
at 09:28:00

Speaks volumes about the lack of ambition Mick installed throughout the club that we could be treading water for 3 seasons and apparently none of the players had any objections to that.

Hard to see how any manager could do more damage than entrenching the acceptance of mediocrity and then stoking player resentment of the club's fans. If Knudsen is representative of the others the new boss has a hell of a job on his hands.

Waghorn Impressed By Town New Boys
at 13:33:26

Sad to say, the positive is probably that we're not in serious danger of relegation, we're not chucking good money after bad in pursuit of 6th and we'll probably get a change of manager in the Summer?

My issue with McCarthy isn't generally the quality of player brought in. Considering the resources at his disposal I actually think the quality of individual brought in is comparatively high. It's the inability to get them playing with any discernible pattern of play whatsoever that's the problem.

Town Sign Tottenham Defender on Loan

Good signing but a bit weird. Why did he not just stay at Sheffield United? Have we offered a bigger loan fee or something?

McCarthy Set to Make Changes
at 13:29:23

We're going to have to get something out of our reserve strikers/wingers - Bajner, Sammon, Henshall, Stewart - at some point because I don't fancy our chances of Dids & Murph staying fit for 50 odd games a piece.

Would the Grass Be Greener Without Mick McCarthy?
at 23:45:19

@Bossman: sad to say, but on no measure (other than trophies we won more than 30 years ago) are we currently a bigger club that So'ton, Palace, Burnley or Leicester.

Would the Grass Be Greener Without Mick McCarthy?
at 14:41:07

Very realistic analysis of the whole situation, particularly the cost implications of sacking Mick and going back to the drawing board in terms of style. It's just incredibly unlikely that we sack Mick and appoint a genius who turns our current players into a slick, passing team that tears other teams to shreds.

Pretty much the only realistic way we'll get promoted is by becoming insanely good at grinding out results (a la Hull a few years) or by getting lucky with a few academy kids and freebies signings (like Burnley last year). It's not going to happen just because we get in a new manager.

That said, Mick certainly doesn't help himself. Picking Tabb and signing Sammon were always going to wind people up, especially with existing frustrations about negative, route one football. Mick's set up teams to play direct attacking football in the past, so I've no idea why he's so keen to pick a fight with the Town support.

Mick Not the Man for Town
at 20:42:36

In that link you added about finances, Ipswich had the 18th biggest turnover in the division. So in terms of bang for our buck we overachieved a touch. In last season's championship the top 8 were 13th, 8th, 12th, 6th, 4th and three relegated teams. Not one team finished above us with a smaller budget and we finished above a lot of teams with bigger ones.

Is MM a genius? No. Will he ever get us promoted? Probably not. But that's how it is now. We're a small club, even for this division, and unless the academy suddenly produces 3 or 4 great players or we sign a few freebies who other clubs miss (both of which are as much luck as judgement), we're going nowhere.

Drury and Lee-Barrett Released
at 10:50:48

I suppose the one hesitation with letting Drury go is that we've only got 2 other central midfielders currently contracted to the club. Letting go a decent pro who played 30 games this season, on unspectacular wages and who's adequate in a couple of positions might be a bit hasty at this point.

JET Sorry for Abject Display

not everyone can be Matt Holland in terms of attitude, and it's up to the manager to give him the arm around the shoulder or the kick up the arse as required, seems like he's kicked up the effort a bit so that's a good sign for the management. A Manchester City fan who came with me to see us play Millwall said he was the best player on the pitch, and just as well, because we've sold all else creative in our attacking players...

Town Amongst Clubs Eyeing Orient Winger
at 13:33:43

watched Orient play a few weeks back and liked the look of their right back without learning name. He's very quick (with and without the ball), used the ball intelligently and was at the heart of everything Orient did well. Good signing I reckon.

Calculated Risks: Step Forward Mauricio Taricco
at 19:22:37

It'd be a massive risk, a stab in the dark, but I'd be happy anyway. Plenty of managers do well in their first proper role and Taricco seems like one who would have the character, the intelligence and the personality to be one of them. It'd bring a lot more enthusiasm back to the club than some of the names being bandied around anyway.

Town Topic: Who Next for Town?

Town Confirm Reo-Coker Deal
at 17:42:04

I'm with the "pointless signing" brigade. We've got 7 senior centre midfielders (and 3 kids apparently good enough to give squad numbers to) competing for 2 spots as it is, 3 of them loanees. If Reo-Coker is the best of any that we've got at the club (and pedigree would suggest he is, but then the list of rubbish journeymen who've come through the club and contributed nothing over the last decade is to numerous to count), then what was the point in bringing in the other loanees first? Can't we just build around the players who are realistically going to be at the club long-term?

Where Does This Football Club Go From Here?
at 22:35:57

I think the hankering for Jim Magilton is more down to the fact that he was the last manager to have a pre-Evans side. The feeling around the club was different when we felt like underdogs, the broke club punching above their weight. When we had younger players, inconsistent players, even rubbish players, we had to make the best of it, cheer them on, because there was plausible chance of them being replaced in the near future. Same thing with the manager, he had to get the best out of whoever he had. Since the money came, the expectations have gone up, the patience disappeared and the atmosphere has gone sour.
