Slicker didn't play for U21s so assume him? |

Current owner also has form for clubs liquidating. And I don't see the FA or EFL realistically being able to step in, at this rate I'd be surprised to see them allowed to start the 24/25 season. |
| Forum Reply | Can Reading survive much more? at 11:42 14 Mar 2024
Problem is its quote a unique situation in many respects. The current owner simply doesn't care if the club/asset survives, and can't be induced to sell. Point deductions are normally actually effective as they put the hurry up on the sales process, but clearly doesn't here. Government lacks levers of any sort either, we can't go around seizing businesses just because they are badly run/being asset stripped. But this does just point to the demise of the club. |
| Forum Reply | Brandon Williams update in the Broadhead story at 10:07 8 Mar 2024
Last sentence feels quite telling that we just aren't even considering him/worried about it. Would be shocked if he played for Town again. Probably explains the Tuanzebe at right back conversion that's occurred. |
| Forum Reply | Economics: This might be too simplistic to answer in these terms but... at 13:25 9 Feb 2024
A few reasons, which I hope I keep non political. Collapse in economic growth since 2007-8 - average growth in the UK and the Western world in general is severely below the pre 2007-8 trend level, this means there is less money being generated to spend on the public sector than could have been assumed. Demographics - Old people cost a lot of money and there are a lot more of them than there used to be compared to the working age population. This is reflected in NHS spending which has gone from about 1/8 of public sector spend in 2000 to around 1/3 now. That leaves less for everything else. Not saying that it's not justified, just that it does squeeze out money for other parts of Government. The planning system - its so incredibly difficult to build basically anything in this country, be that housing, labs, infrastructure etc that acts as a huge drag on economic growth and quality of life (seen credible estimates suggesting we would be growing at 3% a year with a less restrictive planning system) this difficulty also increases the costs of building so on the rare occasion things do get built they have are more expensive than in comparison to other countries for both supply and regulatory compliance reasons. Those are probably thr big 3, all to some extent interlinked. [Post edited 9 Feb 13:31]

Need to see the reverse angle, if it comes off his thigh it's 100% not a penalty, doesn't matter if the arm is in an unnatural position with the rules clarification that came in this season. |

Despite our mostly successful results when he has reffed us, I'd say that is more in spite of him then because of him. |
| Forum Reply | Redrawing of constituency boundaries at 11:45 16 Jan 2024
That's changed now with the Parliamentary Constuiences Act 2020, Parliament no longer has to vote to approve the changes, and Minister must pass an Order in Council to implement the changes within 4 months unless "exceptional circumstances". Broadly they are being redrawn to ensure all seats are within 5% of a set size with a couple of exceptions (islands mostly), think there are also provisions to as much as possible keep constituencies in as few different local authorities as possible, preferably 1. Boundary Commission is independent and you need to have been apolitical for quite a while before you can work there. Net effect is about +7 seats to the Tories, as Labour heartlands which have shrunk in population lose seats, and Tory heartlands which have increased in population get more seats. There is some history here that I won't go much into, bur broadly the Tories are keen on the equal.size provisions as some safe Labour seats got very small towards the end of Blair/Brown. Next review is in 2030, and will be every 8 years after that. |
| Forum Reply | Buses replace trains between London Bridge and South Bermondsey at 17:41 4 Jan 2024
Yeah I'd strongly suggest walking to either Bermondsey tube (25 mins) or Surrey Quays (15 mins) yhan deal with those buses. If its Liverpool Street you are trying to get back to Surrey Quays can get you to Whitechapel and then Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street, Bermondsey itself is on stop on the Jubilee back to London Bridge. |
| Forum Reply | January transfer window = improving the squad or improving the first eleven? at 13:54 24 Dec 2023
I would agree that LCB is probably the most important position for a new starter, Burgess is going to be missing for about a 3rd of the remaining games, and whilst i get people like his box defending qualities, his quality on the ball is increasingly limiting us and puts a lot of pressure on the RCB to find the out ball for us. We clearly need another striker who is similar to Hirst, and maybe a different type of LF either a mirror of Burns so we can switch up the sides of the press or a more creative Celina type, rather than the two shadow strikers we have there currently. |
| Forum Reply | Line up for Leicester at 19:24 23 Dec 2023
Not what i think will start, but would should start: Hladky Clarke Woolfenden Edmundson Davis Morsy Luongo Burns Chaplin Hutchinson Hirst |
| Forum Reply | Clarke at 19:06 23 Dec 2023
I find it incredible that anyone could watch that game and think Clarke was the problem in our defence today, rather than the other 3 who each directly led to conceding a goal. |
| Forum Reply | The whole away ticket points system thing - is it fair?! at 12:47 21 Dec 2023
It's definitely fairer than the previous system. A silver card was basically useless last season, which meant if you don't have a season ticket for geographic reasons you were basically locked out of away matches. The system this season means I've been able to get to a fair few more, even if it has been Middlesbrough, Stoke etc. |
| Forum Reply | Realistic signings in the January window at 20:29 26 Nov 2023
Agree that we need a different sort of No.10/Left winger - Broadhead, Harness and Chaplin all quite similar and need to have someone with a creative spark rather than goal scoring prowess for some games in that role. |
| Forum Reply | 3 options for 3 lions at 16:05 16 Nov 2023
Whilst selling the club does get them their investment and additional cash back its not the only way. A Premier League club can make profit and pay dividends, admittedly it is only Man Utd and West Brom who've done this in recent years but it is a potential option, especially in the medium term if no buyer could be found. |
| Forum Reply | FFP and the January window at 15:31 13 Nov 2023
If we don't go up we will be selling Davis in the summer, likely for a lot of money. given thats the case, I see no reason as to why we wouldn't spend that money in advance in January, likely on another striker, whilst also getting another couple of fringe players out of the door. Regardless, I don't think Ashton is going to let us die wandering like Evans in 2015 |
| Forum Reply | So if the worst happens at 12:18 10 Nov 2023
It would make for an interesting summer. If we don't go up I struggle to see Davis still being here next season, and potentially Woolfenden as well. Not to say that we won't replace them well, but for the first time in years we would lose players to higher up the food chain. On the flip side we have the potential to further evolve the squad, likely with another CM and striker, and generally improving on the out of contract players, so we could be in very good shape. |
| Forum Reply | Harry Clarke where were you for their goal? at 20:09 1 Nov 2023
Covering the centre back was is hideously out of position, we've got 4 players within 5 metres of each other, leaving Clarke to cover 2/3rds of the pitch on his own. If he doesn't come across they have a much simpler pass to just walk through the middle |
