Chambers: Great Start, One We Need to Build On
at 20:29:48

It’s a better option moving LC to right back than trying to play Edwards there while KV-Y is out. LC may lack a bit of finesse and is prone to the occasional misplaced hoof, but at this level he’s a very solid option. Prefer him at right back than in the centre in fact. Also respect his wholehearted commitment. Let’s just allow him to get on with the job.

Bristol Rovers 0-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 20:01:14

OK, we’re not blowing teams away, but we are looking solid and hard working, and in our better moments we are playing some nice football. No evidence of the hoofball of the past. Andre really beginning to look the part. I wish we had a really dangerous striker, but we work with what we’ve got. Bristol didn’t offer much going forward, but they did manage to keep out Slumberland for long periods last week, so we did well to score two against them. More of same, please. COYB!

Lambert: It'll Be a Hard Game, We Won't Treat Rovers Lightly
at 14:06:58

B''' hell. Drinan out for two months. When will these injuries stop - or at least slow down. Time for Hawkins to step up to the plate, I guess. This will be a different game and I think it will be close. I'm worried about our lack of goal threat, but hoping we'll get some help from the midfielders in this regard.

Ipswich Town 0-1 Fulham - Match Report
at 07:44:38

We seem to be able to put out two full sides of fairly average and similar ability. PL is going to have selection problems when everyone is fit (if they ever are): Dozzel and/or Downes? Drinan and/or Norwood and/or Hawkins? Sears/Edwards/Huws/Judge in or out? Chambers/Toto/Wilson? [Woolfenden must play] Etc. I think some of the criticism PL got for chopping and changing came from the situation where we have a lot of players at much the same level, and often no-one (with a couple of exceptions) stands out that much to be an obvious choice over someone else. But while I accept some changes will be made, I hope PL basically sticks to the new idea of a more settled team.

Drinan, Woolfenden and Lankester Set to Miss Fulham Cup Tie

Heavens! Where do all these injuries come from? K V-Y is perhaps the most worrying. He's been out for a long time already. Achilles problems can be tricky, with a good chance of re-occurring if you try to come back too soon. Will we see him this side of Christmas?

Lambert: I Don't Know if Downes Wanted to Play Today
at 18:01:29

I don't really see what PL has done wrong in all of this. He has given a strong hint that someone, presumably his agent, has given Flynn bad advice. Lambert has supported Flynn, not slagged him off, by saying he had been "brilliant." Finally, he has clearly stated that the decision to sell rests with Marcus and it won't happen until Palarse step up with the right kind of money. PL realised that this whole situation has thrown Flynn into a turmoil, so he gave him time off to gain some perspective, with the added benefit that the rest of the team would not be drawn in to the discussion. All in all, I would say that this was pretty good man management. How Flynn now reacts will show what kind of a person he is.

Ipswich Town 2-0 Wigan Athletic - Match Report
at 17:39:46

Happy enough with that. I'd prefer a battling win to some of the stuff we served up last season. We looked to be more direct today, rather than just putting on a passing the ball around show and getting nowhere. Wigan were up for it with so many new players and they will cause teams problems in this league. Plenty of room for improvement, but three points in the bag. Thought the Sky commentary was rather anti-Ipswich. OK, Wigan could have had a couple, then so could we have had a couple more. 8-0 shots on target to us (correct me if I'm wrong) tells me Wigan didn't have it all their own way. Good substitutions at the right time too.

Ipswich Town 1-2 Arsenal U21s - Match Report
at 14:21:29

A lot of good, fast football was actually played by both sides. You have admit that the Arse youngsters were very, very good. Not many L1 teams would have got a result against them - and yes, that is embarrassing given that it also applies to us. But we hit the post, hit the crossbar, had one cleared off the line, Nolan missed a sitter, and we should have had a penalty for handball in the first half. In other words, with a bit more luck, we would have got a draw. But give Arse youngsters their due. They looked to be a very skillful, well-drilled side.

Lambert: The Way We Played Was Incredible
at 20:37:50

Sounds as if it was pretty incredible. Well maybe Town scoring three in one match was just that. I’d prefer to say it was a good win against fairly poor opposition. ”Incredible” would be if we beat Man Utd’s first ream 3-0.

Downes Could Be Sent Out on Loan If Palace Successful in Pursuit
at 18:35:11

We loan him out to a Championship club. That's a novel idea. I'd rather that than we sell him to Palace. At least he'd still be our player at the end of the loan.

Second Palace Downes Bid £1.6m
at 05:33:13

Tell him to stay and play his heart out for a year, and then we’ll see. This salary cap has really hit us. Selling any decent players is going to have a negative effect because we can’t afford to replace them. And worst of all, the Academy, one of the few things we were still proud of, just becomes a nursery for the vultures in thr PL or Championship.

Downes Hands in Transfer Request
at 11:49:51

Really, really bad news. I'd hoped he'd stay the season. I expect his head has been turned by the new agent who no doubt even now is watching the £ signs floating before his eyes. We produce half decent players and then they disappear, probably for much less than they should. ***&%!

Wilson: Competition For Places Healthy
at 06:00:04

As regards competition for places, I'm afraid it's more like can we find two out of five or six who make the least mistakes. All of them are on a similar level, and no-one really sticks out and says "play me". I'd play Woolf and N'daba as they are the only pair with a chance of getting better with more experience. The rest have reached their peak.

As regards adopting a passing style of play, that's ok up to a point. But the aim of the game is not to look good while endlessly passing the ball around midfield and then backwards. It is, in fac,t to get into the final third and create some pressure around the opponent's goal. This includes taking a shot from time to time. I just hope this is also part of the new plan.
Anyway, COYB!

Cambridge United 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 20:49:49

We started well against Tottenham, but after the first goal went in it’s been downhill since. Maybe we had to ring the changes today, but I hope we have a settled side once we start. Otherwise, we’ve learnt nothing. I’ve not seen much to be optimistic about so far, but I will only judge us when the real games start. It had better be an improvement on today!

Keeper Wright Moves to Sweden on Loan

Superettan is the Swedish equivalent of the Championship. GAIS are 13th at the moment, and I don't think the general level is all that high. But good experience for him, nonetheless.
