Hirst: Cajuste's One of the Best I've Ever Played With
at 11:18:42

Delighted to see him back this season. Was a pleasure to watch at PR, so can’t wait to see him again.

Lovely comments from Hirsty too, clear to see he’s become a leader in the squad.

Police Reviewing CCTV of Birmingham Fan Incident
at 11:11:47

They’ve got previous for this type of behaviour, remember when a fan ran onto the pitch and tried to punch Grealish? Grubby club with a history, there’ll be more of this type of thing from them this season. The EFL needs to make an example here. Unfortunately, it will just be a banning order for the fan and a warning for the club.

Cajuste Set For Town Return

I absolutely loved watching this man play last year and this is such a good deal. €1M loan fee and only €6.5m if we get promoted, that’s an absolute steal!

McKenna: Barbrook a Big Positive, Trio of Youngsters to Be Assessed Over the Next Month
at 22:31:48

I’m hoping Cam can be in the squad this season. He was very good in League 1 for a team that finished 5th, he’s definitely got the technical ability for the Championship. He can play as one of the midfielders in front of Azor, I think he could play that 10 role as well, plus he could even provide a bit of cover at LB (seem to remember him playing fairly well there v QPR a couple of season ago). He just lacks a bit of the physicality we need.

Barbrook needs a loan and I think we either need to sell or loan Baggott.

McKenna Tight-Lipped on Hackney and Cajuste
at 21:27:54

Bring back Jens!

Still need another cm and striker. But we’ve still got another month to go in the window, so plenty of time. If Jens comes in early next week I think we’re in good shape heading into the season. Ali has looked much shaper in pre-season, Hirst is banging them in. Cam and Taylor are good players at this level, and we’ve got loads of attacking options. That’s until the injuries start to hit…

McKenna: Townsend and Philogene Injuries Don't Look Great
at 21:20:19

Not keen on selling Broadhead if Philogene is injured going into the season. Need to make sure we still have depth.

If we don’t have Leif or Townsend for Friday at least Ashley Young looked good when he came on.

Brentford 'Remain Keen' on Hutchinson
at 15:49:22

I think £37.5M would be a good return for us, that’s quite a lot of profit for a player we bought a year ago for around £20M. We’ve got loads of attacking mids and wingers, so we probably don’t need to replace.

What we do need though, is Hayden Hackney or Cajuste. Or ideally both. The Hutchinson money will pay for that.

Blues Among Clubs Linked With Liverpool Youngster
at 20:37:20

Why wouldn’t we want to loan a highly rated 20 year old? Doesn’t cost us much, wouldn’t need to be registered and could end up being very good for us. Might as well use the loan market to bring in some decent players and add some depth, if we get promoted we’d have way more money to spend on a central midfielder anyway. If he’s no good then we can just send him back in January.

Newcastle United 3-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 21:56:59

The only thing clear and obvious is the shocking standard of decisions. This and the Leicester game were farcical. Two soft yellows for Johnson, the first just isn’t a booking is it. The penalty was a joke, if the referee had given it on the pitch I’d maybe understand, but to overturn it as a clear and obvious mistake? Do me a favour. Clarke’s overturned earlier in the season, Leif at the Etihad, and the Chaplin one against Leicester. All going against us.

Really frustrating that two weeks in a row it’s been game over after 35 mins.

Championship referees will be as bad if not worse, but hopefully we’ll get more in our favour. Just looking forward to next season now.

McKenna: It's the Setbacks That Make You Stronger
at 11:18:16

Absolutely spot on Mariner1974.

Looking back on this season, the standard for staying in this division has been ludicrously high. Teams that have spent a lot of money (West Ham, Man Utd, Spurs) are all battling it out to not be 17th. Say what you like about the quality of those teams, but two of those clubs are in the Europa semi-final and they have spent astronomically more money than us over on their squads.

I think between now and the end of the summer transfer window might be a bit bumpy, but hopefully we keep most of the squad we have, and are able to revamp the midfield. If McKenna doesn’t go elsewhere then we’ll be odds on to win the championship next season.

Nottingham Forest 1-1 (AET, 5-4 on Pens) Ipswich Town
at 22:48:25

Some positives to take away from that. Some really solid defensive performances, Hirst playing the best part of 90 minutes and getting on the score sheet. If we defend like that more consistently then we might pick up some better results. I still think we struggled to get out a bit at times, we seem to lack options or chances to play the ball through.

Going out on pens always frustrating, 5 top quality pens from Forest. 4 top quality pens from us, and 1 that was average.

At this point in the season I’m largely just looking toward next season. Shame that we won’t get a chance of Wembley, and it would take a minor miracle to stay up.

McKenna: Get Through This Round and People Start to Dream
at 22:41:46

Hopefully Forest put out a weaker side and it disrupts them a bit. It was an even game at the City Ground last time, which would give me a bit of hope if our form wasn’t absolutely atrocious.

This could be the best chance we have in a very long time to get to the semis of the FA Cup, and a trip to Wembley for the first time to the new Wembley, and first trip there in 25 years. I just hope they give a better showing than they have of later and give 100%, rather than the dross we’ve been served up against Man Utd and Southampton recently.

Manchester United 3-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 22:31:53

So many problems on display today. Lacked ideas going forwards. We didn’t have any width, which is exactly what you need to be doing against ten men. We take far too long to make decisions in possession, often the pass is gone by the time they’ve realised what they should be doing. Really poor defending from set pieces. We’re losing the 1v1 duels far too often, and then we’re just too open at the back. We don’t seem to have any attacking patterns of play, the players don’t seem to have an idea of how to create anything. Both the goals we scored were pretty lucky if we’re honest. We’re lacking quality and belief and are looking way out of our depth.

Similar themes throughout the season, but early on in the season we were playing fairly well but getting a bit unlucky. Now we’re playing woefully and can barely pick up a point, let alone win a match.

I think the writing was on the wall after the Southampton game, but we really need to see some better performances. We’ve spent decent money on this squad, and I don’t think we’re seeing enough from them. I’m not expecting us to go and win loads of matches, but they need to show more than what we’ve seen in 2025. The only decent performance was when we went down to ten men vs Villa.

Ipswich Town 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur - Match Report
at 22:25:48

Such a frustrating game but feels so similar to the rest of the season. I thought we played really well, we should’ve gone at least 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes, easily could’ve got two. Instead spurs score two from the only two chances they get. We get back into the game, score an offside goal that gets disallowed, then they go and deflect one in. That 4th goal, I thought play was supposed to stop if there’s a clash of heads? Apparently Mr Robinson is now making up the laws of the game.

Such fine margins that we were on the wrong side of. I don’t think we can really get at the players as I thought there were some good performances. Unfortunately, I just don’t think we have the quality to survive. I really think that we can only win games if we get the first goal.

And for the love of god, I never want to see Tim Robinson at Portman Road again, he’s shockingly bad at his job.

Town Host McKenna's Former Club Spurs Aiming For First Double
at 22:36:01

We ended up with a 531 after Axel got sent off really, Johnson was acting as a RWB and O’Shea a right centre back. Started with Axel as rb/rcb with O’Shea more centrally.

As you’ve said though, we mix it up every week. Sometimes it’s tactical, more often than not it’s been due to injuries.

I’d also quite like us to go 4231, but that would likely mean dropping Johnson who isn’t effective as a rb in a back 4. In any case, I’m more confident for this one as Ange is tactically very inflexible, and McKenna will know exactly how we need to set up to win, it will be on the players to be able to carry it out.

Robinson to Referee Tottenham Match
at 21:07:02

This bloke cost us two points in that Leicester match, absolutely no doubt about that. I’ve never been so furious with a referee at Portman Road before. You can understand a League 1 or Champ referee being bad. But he’s supposed to be one of the best in the country.

Stuart Watson’s article on it hit the nail on the head, seemed to have it in for us from the first minute. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again or Ashton will be ringing Howard Webb again.
