 | Forum Reply | Jamal Lewis or Kortney Hause on a Free? at 11:11 4 Sep 2025
We'd really be scraping the barrel with either of these 2. Jamal Lewis's best days are long behind him, you have to go back to his time with that lot up the road for anything of note. And Kortney Hause has played about 10 games in 5 years, any one of our less than ideal options are better than these guys. |

Did the hard work in totally tearing apart a failing team, with no sentiment, and with no fear of fan backlash. That takes balls. Bought in a lot of players that we have come to look at with nothing but fondness and great memories, just couldn't get them working with any cohesion, which we all know takes time, and he was working with a tiny and pretty under experienced coaching team ( I know he chose to bring them in, but still). Obviously, we moved onto better things, but you can't under play the work he did, or his success as a manager, we're really the bleak spot on a pretty decent CV. Decent guy by all accounts. |

Now the frustration has eased somewhat, it's fair to say there were some really encouraging moments. Jens looks a cut above, and him and Azor are going to be one hell of a partnership. Jens at points looked as if he was playing in a training game, keeping him fit is vital, he's our magic. We were getting the ball to our wide players pretty quickly, with time and a better understanding of their role, you'd hope they will be move decisive and work at speed rather than slowing the game down. We have such a strong bench, and the subs came on and really upped the tempo, and we've got more options still to bring in. It's been a tough few weeks, but we've got a great squad, a strong coaching team, and a fantastic manager who has done this before. We're going to be a formidable opponent for anyone this season. Let's give it time. |

He's done the rounds a little bit since he left us. Went without a club for ages, did alright at Exeter and then a few half season stints, back without a club now. Imagine he'll call it a day soon. Amazingly has looked very average at every level from Prem down to L2! |
 | Forum Reply | Surely Henry Gray could've been 3rd choice keeper? at 10:40 3 Sep 2025
He certainly could have filled that role, I would imagine though that there is some hope he could secure a National League loan in the coming weeks. I've heard a lot of coaches speak on the importance of having an experienced #3, look at City with Wright, Carson and now Bettinelli, Chelsea had Green, Schwarzer, Hilario, United have Heaton.....it seems as though they come in as a mentor/cheerleader, somebody on the same level as the players but adding an extra link between them and the coaches. Ben Foster spoke about it being a vital role in the GK union. Button might not play (although we did use 3 GK's in the league last year) but he'll have a really important part to play with all the GK's at the club. |

I fancy Azón, looks to have the strength and physicality to thrive at this level. Had a strong pre-season, rated by Fabregas & McKenna, 2 of the brightest young coaches around, I reckon with some decent service he could be a real threat. |
 | Forum Reply | 3 big challenges for McKenna at 10:37 2 Sep 2025
3 really interesting challenges for KM. I'm not sure the Davis inversion tactic will stick long term, it just doesn't seem that the players we have are suited to that, it reminds me of watching England in the Euros, too many players trying to occupy the same space. Davis is far better suited to the game he played in L1 and our last Championship season. It might not have worked in the Prem, but we're not in the Prem, so why limit our attacking options. If Jack wants to cut in, Leif has to stay wide and overlap. And if Jaden wants to stay wide, he actually needs to run the line and take on his man occasionally! I'm keen to know how KM plans to navigate the #10 dilemma. Who does he actually plan on playing there? Is it SS, CA or maybe MN pushed forward? All 3 have very different qualities and I honestly have no opinion on what the best strategy is. But it's a crucial position and one he needs to get right quickly. Whichever way you look at it, there's going to be an unhappy RB or 2! I'm not sure they intended to have HC as part of the team this season, and I'm not sure we'll see much of him between now and January, when I assume he'll be off. That said, he's maybe the most forward thinking of our options and could be useful. I imagine Johnson and Young will rotate and Furlong will offer Davis some relief in the closing stages and cover injuries, much like Townsend did last season. This is where KM really has to work his magic, he's got an amazing group of players here, in many ways even stronger than last season. He needs to find a way to make them click. He's taken a mismatched selection of players and turned them into a formidable team before, I have no doubts he'll do it again! |
 | Forum Reply | If Burns wasn't injured.. at 18:31 1 Sep 2025
I think we'll have to disagree there, I've seen Wes take the ball past plenty of fullbacks, especially at this level. He might not be able to carry the ball as effortlessly as Clarke or Philogene but he's exactly what this squad is missing right now, a strong, direct outlet. |
 | Forum Reply | If Burns wasn't injured.. at 18:07 1 Sep 2025
I wouldn't have thought so. He's the only winger we have who isn't afraid to run at a man, stay wide and get a cross in. All the others want to cut back and go central. My money is on him being a valuable player in the second half of the season. He also offers a level of defensive protection that none of our other wingers do. |

How is his stance on the armband, based on his religious beliefs, any different to Sam Morsy refusing to wear it? |
 | Forum Reply | Mcateer at 22:22 30 Aug 2025
I was very surprised that we moved for him, I can't imagine he was too high up the list of potential wingers, but I can see some logic in his signing, and maybe why we moved for him. A few times today he did make a move on his man, stayed wide and delivered a ball into the box, and although the quality was lacking the intent was there, neither Clarke nor Philogene do this. Burns does, and maybe we had hoped Ogbene would, but injuries, an ever changing team, and poor end product have worked against him. I think McAteer will be an upgrade on Ogbene, but I can't help but feel that a fit Wes is still the best option out there. Surely if we're going all in on this inverted fullback/cutting inside on the left, the right. sided player needs to be someone who can take a man on, right?! |
 | Forum Reply | Wingers, sorry a moan at 20:30 30 Aug 2025
I'll reserve judgement of McAteer for now, although it was great to see one of our wingers work the line and get a few crosses in (even if the crosses were poor). Philogene is the one that really irks me. Slows everything down, great feet, but absolutely no desire to take a man on or get a cross in, everything has to come back inside. Which is very much the Jack Clarke way, but Jack does it with a degree of pace that Jaden seemingly doesn't have. We were so effective with Lief on one side and Wes on the other taking players on and getting balls across the box, I'm not really sure why we've changed, but it's definitely not for the better. |
 | Forum Reply | They weren’t pretty to watch but Derby have gelled quickly at 20:23 30 Aug 2025
In the respect that they were great at collectively falling to the floor, then yes they gelled well. Other than that they didn't give themselves a chance to do anything cohesive, they had 2 decent attacks in the whole game, looked very average in the middle and if we had a slither of cutting edge about us it would have been all over by half time. |
 | Forum Reply | Furlong for Young vs Sheff Utd? at 20:09 30 Aug 2025
Agreed, although, despite looking absolutely knackered, in those last 10 minutes he was still doing more with the ball and trying to get the ball in the box much quicker than Jaden was. Overall a pretty solid game from Young I thought. |
 | Forum Reply | Mitrovic at 11:29 18 Aug 2025
He'll have no issues finding a club willing to get much closer to his demands than we ever could. Even on £150k+ a week he'd be a steal on a free for teams right across Europe, and there are plenty that would snap him up. |

One pairing cost £21m+ the other about £3m.....Kyogo was not a player I expected to see in the Championship this season, he's a real talent. |
